Prepare for a wall of Orange as Max Verstappen returns to Zandvoort for the World Champion's homecoming. The circuit is going to be absolutely packed and hoping Verstappen can repeat his victory heroics from last season. On the strength of the previous races, he's on another level so probably. What do the dunes have in store for the rest.of the grid as Ferrari still have a mountain to climb to keep up. The banked turns return, what will porpoising be like through that final corner? There was a little bit of passing last season at the circuit after a crazy intense qualifying session, will the dunes bite hard again this year at the DUTCH GRAND PRIX!

FINALLY. I have tickets for the Friday since 2020.

There was a chance of rain predicted earlier this week but it looks like it will be a dry weekend after all.

The banking was designed with running DRS through it in mind, so this is more a case of "1-year too late" than anything else.

Last race was really encouraging in terms of race speed for Mercedes as George was much faster than Charles and even was lapping quicker than Max at the end of the race although he was probably taking it easy. This track should suit Mercedes a lot more than Spa so potentially their first big chance of achieving a one-two if they have strong race pace relative to the others. Hopefully Lewis does not have to take any penalties.

The cars run a lot closer this year so won't more DRS just make it even more OP and make overtaking even more of a farce?

DRS didn't do much at Zandvoort last year, did it? I may be mis-remembering it though...

But with closer natural running you might get too big a swing in the other direction. We shall see.

And Zandvoort shows why it's just one big money grab. You're not allowed to bring your own food and drinks. ****ers.

They are also trialing new bonded fake gravel traps. Be interesting to see if they work as intended or if the drivers still use them to cut corners despite their supposed bumpy and slippery nature.

I think this is the one grand prix I didn't see last year (didn't record due to a storm power outage). Not expecting big things, but I can hope to be proven wrong. Maybe Mercedes can race Ferrari while Red Bull gallops off into the distance.

I hope I'll be proven wrong and that Spa was really an anomaly like some sites suggest. If not, I think with their current form, we can expect Red Bull and Max to run away with it again at this track and at Monza as well....I had some hope for this season but alas....guess I'll wait for 2023 and hope it will be more competitive.

Edit.
Of course I want Hamilton to do well, but I wouldn’t mind seeing another totally dominant race by Verstappen. Let’s see if Ferrari can get their house in order.

The nephew together with Max on the pic. Don't need no paddock club tickets!

Uh oh. VER stopped with a broken gearbox. Looks like engine smoke as well though.

About the same chance of this "No flares" sign working.

..and as I type this, there you go. Flares already going off 5 minutes into FP1.
Clearly the gates were very difficult for them to locate!

It’s early, but RB seem to be struggling so far. This would be a good opportunity for Ferrari to capitalize, which means Merc will probably win this race.
At this point I'm starting to believe the FIA's actual punishment for Ferrari's illegal 2019 engine is a "wheel of strategy" that they have to spin before each race to seal their fate for the weekend.

Looking at those Mercedes times, could they really be in contention to challenge for a race win here? I know it's only FP1 and FP2 but if I'm not mistaken, this is by far the best showing I think I've seen from them this season when it comes to the practice sessions. I hope they can keep that up to the race. Red Bull seems to be struggling, if they can get their act right....that would be a three way fight which is what I'm hoping for.
