Not sure why Bottas only did 1 run on mediums. They were definitely the tire to be on and I think that extra lap for Lewis got him the temp needed to get pole

Not sure if that's enough for Albon. He left a bit of a gap and two cars slipped in ahead of him. I guess we'll see come race day.

Surprise, surprise, Bottas fastest in every session except the one that :censored:ing matters.

Oh hey, they removed the ballast from Hamilton's car.

Oh hey, Hamilton gave more than the 80% maximum practice pace.

Right on cue.

LH yet again pulling something out of the bag and puts it on pole. Seriously, how the heck can he keep this up? Bottas led every sessions and lose it at the last one.....that must have hurt! Oh well, you get points on sundays so let see if he can just make those fastest sessions matter comes the race....although I'm not going to hold my breath!

Strange choice from Ferrari or Vettel, his Q1 time on softs would have been enough to get him out of Q2 if he'd replicated it there... but he went out on mediums.

Everyone was driving like that. They basically have no track limits this year for some reason. All other cars took similar lines.

No it's worse, they're still using different rules for different tracks and even individual corners. T1 and T4 are the only corners they're enforcing this weekend, and they changed the limit after drivers moaned in FP2. They were limited to the white lines as the rulebook states, now they just have to stay on the kerb. Other corners, like T5, are not enforced at all.

EDIT: Oh sorry no I forgot, for T15 the rules remain as per the books, they have to stay within the white lines.

It's silly.

The post I quoted referenced the pole lap of the Spa 24 25 24 hours

Edit: apparantly the change to a 25 hr race was reverted recently

The FIA will need a new driver steward as Vitaly Petrov has stood down from this as his father has been shot dead. and I’ve already seen a ridiculous claim that it was Hamilton’s fault.
Bruno Correia, the Formula E Safety Car driver is doing it.

How ridiculous is the drivers praising Algarve for being challenging then the same drivers turning around and complaining that they can't run off the track enough.

Empirical evidence that the drivers are idiots and that we can't have nice things

Bring back grass and gravel

Nice, this is the first season since 2012 where 7 Constructors have scored podiums. Just Haas, Alfa Romeo and Williams are left. You have to go back to 2009 for a season with 8 teams on the podium, 2008 for 9 and 1989 for 10.

I just looked up 1989 and one of the teams on the podium was Onyx  Considering they had at least one car DNQ for 13 races that season that is a miracle.

Logic would dictate that car performances converge the longer the rules are stable, and looking at the grid this year that seems to be the case (except Merc). I'm hoping I'm wrong here but people expecting the 2022 rules to bring closer racing are going to be sorely disappointed I think. Most likely one team is going to luck out with a winning design and run away from the rest. Again.

125 laps were deleted in practice yesterday due to track limits. Rather than telling the drivers to get on with it and follow the rules, the FIA have caved in and relaxed track limit rules, therefore removing the point of anything.

So now the drivers just need a wheel on the red and white kerb for the lap to count, rather than the white line which is in the FIA rules.

Still, could be worse if the Spa 24 hours pole lap is anything to go by...

*Clarkson voice* Still, could be worse...

All the more reason why they should've used the T1 chicane. That DRS zone is useless essentially. Fast T1 only has one line and dirty air through T2 is going to spread out the cars before the real overtaking spot at T3.

I get the safety thing but all these run offs make the tracks look less interesting during a race.

What the hell? Something finally wasnt Trumps fault
I knew Hamilton didn't like the fact he was in Portugal, but this is very extreme.

Poor Lewis, cant bully everyone to support his hypocrisy.

Bullying people?

Anyway... in race news... we know T1/T2 are going to be difficult at the start, but now there's also an oil spill there. Marshalls are working to clear it up. Rain not forecast until after the predicted race finish time but it could still be slippery given that the tarmac is still pretty new.

Looks like there's a pretty strong tailwind down the start straight. That should make braking into T1 interesting and some of the corners on top of hills tricky with crosswinds.
