Hamilton and Bottas got on so well because of Hungary 2017, when Lewis was let past to fight the Ferrari's, was on their Gearbox all the rest of the race, but slowed down in the final sector and gave up 10s to let Bottas by. That move by Lewis, more than anything, gave Bottas the trust in him that made him be such a good team mate and compliantly got out of the way when James asked on the radio.
It didn't matter for Max to keep 6th over 7th. It did matter how he treated his team mate, because why should Sergio get out of his way now if he'll just arrogantly stay ahead.

Was honestly shocked at the pace from Mercedes. Huge one-two. Congrats to George on the win. Drove a flawless race.
Super surprised to see Ferrari do so well. Glad Sainz wasn't boned out of a podium.
