Yeah, Max will have to do major damage control. Perez is understandably not happy.

"Pérez: "I think if he has 2 World Cups (Verstappen) it's thanks to ME"

"He showed who he really is...."

Verstappen better not rely on Checo for anything next week, because I get the sneaking suspicion he'll be left out to dry.

Fortunately for Max, he definitely has better pace than Checo in the car.

We'll have to wait til' next season if another situation like Catalunya (I think it was?) where Checo decides to not let Max through.

I'll have to watch the replay of the whole race, but I was at least able to see/hear the whole thing with Max.

Honestly, I'm disappointed, but I'm not surprised. Max seems to still not understand some of the "big picture" aspects of F1, namely knowing when to roll with punches and doing your best not to unnecessarily piss off the person that had a very direct involvement in you winning both of your championships.

Max better not be surprised if Checo decides to leave him out to dry either next weekend or next season, because it'll be hard for him to argue against it after today.

Perez has demonstrated how well he can defend at Yas Marina, could be fun to see him flex his muscles with Max...

I haven't seen the source, but caught someone reporting Marko claims Max will help Checo in Abu Dhabi to clinch 2nd.

But, I don't believe you clear something like this up that fast. Maybe in words, but Checo will be seething internally. Max will have to prove it on the track that he's sorry.

I have a feeling that was Marko attempting to save face. I don't think either Max or Checo would've reacted as strongly as they did if they knew that was on the cards.

What were the commentary team on about with Monaco and PER supposedly crashing on purpose? First I've heard of that suggestion, why would you do that just to protect third? Kind of a weird insinuation given that nobody on the radio mentioned that connection.

Must be knowledge/whispers in the paddock that made them come up with that one?

It's right what @TomCoronel just said at ViaPlay. Perez deliberately crashed in qualifying in Monaco and later admitted it to Helmut Marko and Christian Horner. Max Verstappen has not forgotten that.

Coming out of left field. :ill:

In other other other news, today not only sees a new winner in F1, but a new national anthem played for that winner...

"I had no intention to back out."

Yes, we know. We've watched you race for the past several years. The onus of not crashing is placed entirely on the person you're divebombing like a raving dumbass.

What an absolute cu—er, uh, not nice person Max is right now.

And some people are claiming he's the greatest ever. Have we really lowered our standards this much as a society?

I believe the source is Max himself(that's what he said during his interview), if I recall correctly.

Wait, I've just seen the Hamilton/Verstappen collision...

It appears to be almost a carbon copy of the Verstappen/Ocon collision at the same corner in 2018 - with the exception of the fact the inside car wasn't staying on line (like Ocon did; he couldn't have been much further right) but absolutely steaming straight on to the point of biffing the outside car away from the line entirely and still understeering off.

I don't really care about who was at fault or the justification of the penalty, but when Verstappen was the outside car he assaulted the other driver in the pits and was punished with two days' community service...

Tom Coronel is apparently the one who brought up the Monaco crash. Isn't Coronel well known for talking bollocks basically every time he opens his mouth?
Yes, but Erik is doubling down on it. "If you've been following me for a while, I hope you understand that this isn't speculation."

I've seen comments that someone out of Max's camp (fingers at Jos mostly it seems) were leaking that, but without any actual evidence & just upset it cost Max's lap at the time.

Literally admits he felt Lewis wouldn't give him the space, goes for it anyway because he's already got the championship sealed & it cost Lewis a win.

Edit * This whole interview is a PR nightmare for Max's team. Doesn't deny the Monaco allegation, just says, "You can decide for yourself".

If Christian Horner had any balls left he'd pull Max for the final race and give someone else a shot. But we no longer live in a world where people have to be held accountable for their actions.

I just wonder how this effects RB for the future. What kind of driver wants to drive for a team like that knowing that kind of toxicity is going on?

And some wonder why Daniel left Red Bull. In their eyes Max is the poster child and he can't do no wrong and even after this "drama", he still didn't do anything wrong because well he had his reason and he can always help Checo in Abu Dhabi...what the heck is that supposed to mean when you already won the championship.....and knowing full well he would crash with Lewis he still went for it.....like dude, I'll say it again, you already won the Championship. Let everyone one else fight their battles and get yourself out of the way when you know full well you are not even in the card for the win....he's such an 🤬....I really hope this comes back to bite him next season.

It's actually impressive how much goodwill he's undoing this weekend. And I hope he realizes that him saying this dumb 🤬 calls Silverstone into question as well. Which, I'd say the more reasonable among us never doubted as a possibility in the first place.
