Having read through this thread and the review thread about feel and physics I have to say I'm a little surprised how different the experience is for people.
First of I'm an old hardcore sim fan and always raced with a wheel. Love rfactor, RBR, LFS, GPL and iRacing off course. As with FM2 I was initally a little disapointed with FM3, and I expected this because I need some transition from playing the PC sims and back to the Xbox. Once you get back in the groove I think Forza 3 has excellent Force Feedback even with the crappy build quality MS Wheel. I rate FM3 up there with the best when it comes to FF.
2 other things that impress me is the driving feel and how different every car feels. I would rate FM3 number 1 when it comes to driving feel. For me it just feels natural to drive. This is off course very important for a sim, so no complaints for me there.
In the threads there has been a lot of talk of all the cars feeling the same. For me that was GT4 biggest downfall, I'm holding off on the PS3 until GT5 arrives. I constantly amazed how different each car feels in Forza 3. I love just driving a new car just to find out how it feels. Off course I haven't driven most of them in real life so my only reference is from reading car magazine for over 20 years & TV-shows. I smile when I drive a car and think back to the reviews how similiar I experience the car. The perfectly balanced Porsche 944. Subaru Impreza is more the understeering car vs the agile Mitsubitshi EVO. Fighting the heavy front of the Focus ST compared to the brilliant responsive Honda Integra. The quick directional changes of the MR cars and the hard work of the RR Porsches. I remeber Clarkson reasoning for not liking the old Porshce 911 because the car has a "whoobly" front which suddenly might snap into oversteer because of the engine being in the wrong place. This is especially noticable in the old Turbo and Carrera RS.
Reagarding the physics I easily give it an approved stamp. I must admit on a few occasions it feels that I should have lost the car in spin, but other times I spin and it feels right.
Someone mentioned that you don't get penalized when braking into corners? I totally disagree. Brake in a corner, the front looses grip and you start to go outwards in the turn. Try your braking distance in a straight line, then try it again while turining the wheel or have a little angle on your car while braking and you will see a difference.
Same with weight shifting. I will and cannot play a sim without any feeling of weight shifting. For me another strong point in FM3 and it so much fun balancing the car around the Nordschleife or the S combos at Suzuka.
Hmm. This got much longer than expected.
Merry Xmas
