Forza 4 Announced (read the first post - no GT vs FM comparisons)

The fact of the matter is... this is what Turn 10's vehicle models look like without hardware limitations. Although no console is capable of rendering these models in real-time, it boggles the mind to know that 500 of these models exist and will probably be used in the next generation of consoles.

Outsourcing models works.

Nope. Those are bullshots. Gameplay gfx of Forza is really bad.

Forza uses 5 different LOD for their cars:
LOD0: 172753 polys (car selection)
LOD1: 45074 polys (gameplay)
LOD2: 21802 polys
LOD3: 13134 polys
LOD4: 6360 polys
LOD5: 2556 polys
Hi-res cockpit: 79,845 polys

Also the AI models are worse than player car.

The Forza Kinect pics of Italia 458 and Ford GT are their premium bullshots

But let us wait and see how well they can improve gfx and physics. This will be their 3rd game so they can probably improve it

Your points are moot here.

MrBlueSky was implying that if it weren't for the technical limitations of the 360, the game wouldn't have to use LOD. And that we can clearly see that without LOD, Forza 3's car models are quite detailed. Thus Forza's current car models + Next gen hardware = better looking cars models in-game.

Of course, Forza 4 is a 360 game so I wouldn't expect the graphics to be much improved.

The trailer shows the Top gear UK test track, with a Ford GT parked on it, that is in game (or rendered) footage, the rest im pretty sure is just real life footage.

However, I do respect all driving games, especially Forza although ill never buy a 360, may buy the next gen Xbox though and forza 5.

You have either never seen FM3 running or you are simply trying to start an argument.

Yes FM3 uses differing LOD, big deal all console racing title do. Not doing so would quite frankly be daft, you don't need a car that is a dot on the horizon to be modeled the same as the one next to you. It would be a huge waste of processor power.

The gameplay graphics (and it is really so hard to type that word out - keep in mind that gfx is borderline text-speak) are not 'really bad' at all. The overall balance of detail between the cars and the track is excellently done.

What lets it down, in my opinion, at the moment is the lighting used. Which gives some of the cars a slightly plastic looking finish.

However 'really bad' they are not.

Now I have to admit I get a rather large whiff of you simply trying to get a rise out of members in here, if I see any more evidence of that you will be taking a break from GT Planet.

If you can't play nice, you don't get to play.

Scaff

New York is a horrible track.

Both GT4 and PGR New Yorks are infinitely better than Forza's two looooooong straights

Much as I am a Forza fan, I can agree this track needs to be changed or removed for something else. And why did they put those chicanes on the track? I remember when I first got Forza 3 and ran the "new" version of the track I started hauling thinking it was the same version and saw a row of tires and had a big :ouch: moment.

Have to agree that the lighting model was the worst aspect of FM3 graphically. The shots of the Ford GT would suggest that they have taken a huge step in the right direction for the next iteration. Hopefully that can be transferred fully into 'in game' graphics. I feel if that can happen, they tweak the handling and most of the features hinted at in the teaser trailer make it into the game we could be looking at the definitive racing game of this generation. However, getting these new features right first time is not easy.

I remember one of the things that i really loved about Forza was the physics. Out of the packages came out amazingly awesome and went one head to head against the GT series and still came out on top on some elements thats is an amazing accomplishment. Now if they can only improve on car handling physics and tires, thats all i care. Graphics as it is on FZ3 is gorgeous, the only tweak they would need would be the lightning and maybe the cockpit view, a little further back view would be great. Everything else is just top notch perfect! Why change a winning formula now?!?

Most people dont know this but there is actually a way to adjust how you sit in the cockpit view. I did this a while back and it makes a huge difference. It moves you back in the seat. You can see your side mirrors, your rear view mirror, and much more of the interior. :)

Go to your my profile then multiscreen. Even if you dont have multiscreen this makes it much better.

(you dont need a multiscreen for this to work)

Multiscreen - On
Mode - Host
Channel - 0
View - Center
Degrees Hidden - 0
Degrees between screens - 62
It will ask to restart - press A (it doesnt really restart)

You can mess with the last adjustment. I think mine is around 78 or 80 but it makes a huge difference in the cockpit view. :) 👍

@CAMAROBOY69 I was supposed to do this months ago but never get around to it because some cockpit views obscure my view too much as is. But never the less for "slower" races I do find myself using the right stick to glace around the cockpit. The Ford GT tach could benefit from moving the view.

I agree that lighting was (is) the biggest issue with FM3. I have to set my TV to "dynamic" mode which destroys the natural look of the game. I bought my TV because it was rated as one of the best TV's of '09 to replicate realistic colors out of the box and excellent black levels but all of that goes out the window in this game.

I am curious how much the physics would be improved by removing the active steering management requirement. I have a feeling that some of the cars may feel homogeneous because they all have a forced control.

I seriously hope that T10 realizes that they have a great formula so they shouldn't alienate their current fan-base. Instead, give us some of the things we've been asking for and work on improving the physics to dispel their "arcade" stigma (though I know some people will never give it a chance...).

It just makes the overall racing view MUCH better. Instead of being up on the windshield, it moves you back into a more realistic seating position. Plus it allows you to view your rear view mirror and your side mirrors. And you can adjust the number anywhere you want until you are comfortable. 👍

Yes but it looks out of place and makes the track and corners really out of sync. Thatd my opinion. That is there for fans and i sound jealous now, rich people with 3 monitors and 3 360s running FZ3. I tried it and i didnt like it. Its ok. One major thing that we r missing i would say is a real ffb steering wheel. Other than that I love Forza 3. I can only imagine how many cars this time around, 1.000 csrs with cockpits?!? Sounds good to me!

I play this on 1 tv. You dont need 3 monitors or 3 tvs to adjust the cockpit view. I am just saying there IS a way to move the cockpit view. Just trying to help.

Get the Fanatec wheel, one of the best on the market, if not the best.

No i hear brother i know that. Thanks! I tried everything but it didnt feel comfortable for me and my lap times got slower as well. If we were given an official petition from FZ team to improve it, what would you ( US ) improve?

Lets make like a nice format and compare notes and maybe try to send them an email, you never know!

* physics
* lightining
* more cars
* track creator

I would say at least 50% of that Forza 4 video was "in game" footage. I know for sure everything with the Ford GT is In game.

Now what we will actually get in the final version of F4 might be a different story. We still cant wheelie from a dead stop in the Charger like the intro video shows in F3.

I can recommend them but only if you go the whole hog and get the clubsport pedals. Yes it's expensive but one of the best gaming investments I have made.

Some people have pulled wheelies in the Charger from a dead stop, and held it to over 100mph, lol...that is a tad unrealistic though 👍

Was that on the dragstrip? I have made my own wheelie cars that will wheelie on specific tracks but not the Charger on the dragstrip. Not without at least hopping the front up and down.

Yeah, on the strip without hopping. There was a thread like a year ago almost now on the forzacentral.net forums where peeps were posting videos of it. They were like running 1000+ hp or something to that affect.

The hp wasnt the problem. It was always the lack of proper traction at the dragstrip. I dont have a lot of complaints about F3 but the tire physics need to be improved for sure. The car physics are great, the tire physics need to be improved. Especially on the dragstrip.

Any and all of the physics could always use improvements in every version going forward. Luckily, the tire physics that we have now are probably the best we have out there, at least on console. I hope that Forza 4 not only adds to the tire deformation physics that they implemented in Forza 3 (already love the heat and wear), but I want them to add tire manufacturers.

My current Forza 4 wishlist

1. I would love to see the weather effects from PGR4 in Forza 4. PGR4 still has THE most impressive weather effects I have seen in any racing game. This doesnt have to be on all tracks but at least a handful like PGR4 had.

2. Day / night would be nice on some of the tracks but it doesnt have to be on all tracks.

3. Improve the tire physics especially on the dragstrip. The dragstrip tire traction physics are just terrible.

4. More than 8 cars on a track at a time.

5. Take the vinyl top of the 69 Camaro. Or give us the option to take it off the car.

6. Bring back Autocross from Forza 1

7. Allow us to make the trucks AWD. Makes no sense that a truck cant have this option when all of the trucks in this game came with 4wd.

8. Fully adjustable seat position symilar to Test Drive Unlimited.

9. Moving body parts like spoilers or vents when a car reaches a certain speed. Example: Porsche Carrera, Porsche Boxter or Crossfire.

10. A better way to get the pictures from the game. The pics that are saved to Forzacentral.net are decompressed and do not look like the game at all. Let us save the pics to a USB drive.

11. Better lighting in paint booth. Way too dark in the front and back.

12. Public lobbies like FM2

13. Improve Tire physics

I dont see that happening. Lets take baby steps here. lol But if they do add weather effects please do it right. The weather effects in PGR4 were incredible. Thats what I want to see. Water dripping and running down the car, water puddles in the track that effect the physics. PGR4 nailed that. In fact I have yet to see any game that tops the weather effects in PGR4.

I just started a new thread guys named as Forza 4 Wishlist. Camaro I quoted you and moved it down there. Lets make it happen guys and see what we all want improved for Forza 4.

I might be wrong but didnt some of PGR team moved to T10? I cant remember where i read it but i think some of the team responsible for PGR is with T10 working on FZ4.
