5) You have to pay for it if you're on Xbox (Live Gold), since it involves online activities
But you really don't have to. Cars locked behind online only events usually came later in ordinary championship or shop.
So much for a bunch of recycled polygons,
Yeah, you just recycle some polygons and the car is done for the next generation.........
The Forza Horizon 4 fanbase is toxic because it consists of two groups of people:
Yet you somehow managed to squeeze in some other dimension.
If T10 blows it with FM8 I guess it's finally time to move on to more adult games like F1 2019. Or just buy a PS5 for the next Gran Turismo (never thought I'd say that).
Let's see.. Six games on the current generation against one game on PS4. Play everywhere. Discord, Twitter, Facebook, Forza Monthly and an official forum. Loyalty rewards. And so on. Yes, I think I will stick to this franchise.

I personally don't believe the metrics they get (if they even get them!) and I suspect they're skewed due to the sheer number of people who drop out of PGG and restart when going for the win. This creates lots of PGG matches, but they may also have stats for duration and know it isn't all that popular at all, which could have motivated their decision on their part. Or they just blindly trust their simple metrics and think everyone will get the car because the numbers say everyone thinks PGG is awesome just like Tegan and Sara

That may be right, and I have no doubt Microsoft's statistics will be as full of artefacts as the British Museum, but I also suspect our perspective may be equally skewed. You're talking about this on GTPlanet, a forum for Very Serious Car and Racing Games Nuts™. And Forza Horizon 4 is not a game catering only to our audience. Sure, it courts us with a somewhat-quasi-almost-semi-realistic handling model and plenty of cool cars, but it also winks and nods to the Fortnite and Rocket League players, and to casual gamers who don't even know what a spark plug is and who got the game with Game Pass.

This kind of audience won't have a strong brand affection, and therefore may be completely unrepresented on the social forums where we get this self-reinforcing idea that "everybody hates Playground Games". For all we know, that may be the only game mode a good portion of FH4 players have an actual interest with. And I know, the thought makes me shudder because I am not a big fan of PGGs either, but still.

I think Forza released too many games this generation. Hopefully they’ll slow down once the next generation has settled down in the market.

They've already dumped the "new Motorsport game one year, new Horizon game the next" model, so it seems like they've realized quality matters more than frequency.

I would hope they could do the GT Sport method(with more content at launch) and release updates over time. Some paid and some free sort of thing.

All the updates from GT Sport have been free, and I think PD would like to keep it that way.

They have simply pushed current-generation Forza as far as the Xbox One allows without making too many glaring sacrifices. There are no guarantees that they won’t return to the annual cash-grab strategy once Scarlett is out, but let’s hope not.

These decisions on Playground's part are puzzling, because Polyphony has had huge success with Gran Turismo's free DLC content, the availability of which isn't time-based. Granted, you still need to buy cars in the game (not tracks), but they're always there for you to use. Old-school, simple. More free than the open-ended game since you can earn credits however you want and buy the car whenever you want.

Erm, no.

https://store.playstation.com/en-us/grid/UP9000-CUSA03220_00-GTSPORTS00000000/1?relationship=add-ons

Search around the GT:S subforum for a few minutes and you will find there are quite a lot of people that are actually paying money to own "free" DLC cars because they can't be bothered to actually grind the in-game credits due to the piss-poor in-game economy and the subsequent amount of time it would take to get said amount of money. And that's on top of their PS+ subscription. PD is being so greedy with their microtransactions that buying, let's say, the Aston DB3S and the '59 Corvette from the latest "free" DLC will cost you more than what the game itself actually costs nowadays. And even if you don't spend actual money, it's going to take you multiple hours, days even, perhaps weeks, in order to get enough credits to buy one of those cars...

Yet it took me about half an hour to achieve enough percentage to get the McLaren 600LT a few weeks ago. I got the 720S Spider within 15 minutes this week, it was obtainable after completing 3 races. It's going to take me at most an hour, maybe two if I'm unlucky, to find a lobby full of people competent enough to get the Rossion Q1 on Thursday, and I absolutely loathe playground games. Yes, it's locked behind a Gold subscription... but would you believe a 1 month XBL Gold subscription is actually exactly what Sony/PD are charging as a microtransaction for the '59 Corvette Stingray in the latest GT:S "free" DLC. Or 35 hours of grinding Blue Moon Bay Speedway, whatever floats your boat.

On top of everything, with the amount of returning content both GT:S and FH4 have been seeing, I ****ing hope it's free DLC...

I could have worded that better. Forza could sort of combine strategies in a way, having a car pass and expansions be paid. Then have Forzathon cars coming in for free. Kind of the same strategy they have now but through the console generation as it goes on.

I agree with this but it demands a solid base game. FM7 launched weak and the updates that followed didn't really do much to make up for its structural flaws. In other words, they need to develop a title that's strong from the get go in order to make this strategy to work.

Just imagine all FM7 content squeezed into FM6 instead, which was a superior product in all the foundational underpinnings. I'd have loved that.

Random post not on topic of what's going on, I really hate the whole reward car thing, it almost makes it feel like a job, kind of like destiny, makes me want to play it less.

And it doesn't help when those cars are over 10 million to buy in the auction house if you missed out on winning them.

The new story/business is boring, and you get rewarded the stock cars after each chapter. As I said monday, a wasted opportunity.
At least you get money from completing them. Also, I most likely have all those cars anyway, so any dupes will either be sent to the AH or deleted from my garage.

The only one that might get takers on the AH is the Koenigsegg, the other ones are useless. They even made a mistake, the description for one of them is the '32 Ford Roadster but the one you're given is the '40 Ford Deluxe...

It just feels like a story that should have been in the game at launch to incite you to try the upgrade heroes feature. They could very easily have given us new bodykits (Rocket Bunny/Liberty Walk/Pandem released a bunch of stuff for cars already in the game like the E30, 190E, RX8, Maserati GT and whatever else) that are not available. It's a complete waste of time IMO.

I haven't bothered to embark on a story since they added the one celebrating British cars, and I probably won't this time either. Something about the format doesn't engage me, and I still haven't found the motivation to unlock any of the exclusive cars locked behind some of them.

Tried the Upgrade Heroes Business. Chapter 1 prize was a Datsun 510. Chapter 2 the Barn Find Audi Quattro Sport (it certainly looks like it). Not sure why everyone needs another one. Looks like the Auction House will be flooded with them so they can be disposed of... eventually!

At least Gold is easy (on the two chapters I did) by aiming straight for the Destination. I finished the last part of the Audi chapter in 1:45 (well ahead of the Gold time). On the middle part (take as little damage as possible) if you Restart, holes in walls etc are still there for a smoother run!

I think part of this has been due to Microsoft's dearth of high profile, "triple-A" quality exclusive games this generation. Forza is a reliable seller, and the Horizon series is extremely popular, so they would keep releasing them on a tick-tock annual schedule.

Phil Spencer has actually said that one of the good things about all of those new studios they acquired/founded, is that it allows them to take pressure off of the teams making Halo, Gears, and Forza. You don't need a new Forza title every year any more. You can take an extra couple of years to rebuild the engine tech for Halo.

The cars gifted for each round of Upgrade and Heores Business new adventure are:
[CULT CARS] 1970 Datsun 510
[RETRO RALLY] 1983 Audi SPORT QUATTRO
[VANS AND UTILITY] 1970 Chevrolet EL CAMINO SUPER SPORT 454
[RETRO SPORTS CARS] 1997 Mazda RX-7
[RODS AND CUSTOMS] 1957 Chevrolet BEL AIR
[OFFROAD] 1997 Land Rover DEFENDER 90
[RETRO RALLY] 1984 Peugeot 205 T16
[RODS AND CUSTOMS] 1932 Ford DE LUXE FIVE-WINDOW COUPE
[GT CARS] 2013 Bentley CONTINENTAL GT SPEED
[HYPERCARS] 2011 Koenigsegg AGERA

Sadly, based on my first gift, the cars received don't have any upgrade installed.

Edit: if you keep track of your cars on K', this link shows any of these cars missing from your K' garage (be sure to be connected, though)

New cars(You can get the Future 50% cars without needing online now as all the offline challenges including the new story will get a few percent above 50%):

Bugatti Divo - Basically a Good handling Chiron that loses any ability to go as fast in a straight line, it's a bit of a dissappointment as it's easily outclassed by alot of cars on this game in Handling, Aero can't be adjusted without adding a racing wing which is a massive fail:

E92 BMW M3 GTS - Probably the best car I have driven on the wheel, the ratio feels 1 to 1 must be an update or something, car is fun to drive and also has a factory rollcage option which adds 5 point racing harness to the Recaros with a cage, can get a 7.2 V8 Racing Swap:
