I just experienced the most beautiful moment I’ve ever enjoyed in this game, and it happened during the freaking Playground Games.
it was five vs, five at the slate quarry in winter. My team lost the first game of King, but we came back and won the next round of Survivor. Next was Flag Rush and our team scored 11. For some reason, all but one of the other team’s players quit. The rest of my team raced to the flag to deny that lone player. I was the only one to defend the drop zone. After a few minutes, I realized he wasn’t even trying. He was just doing donuts on the frozen floor of the quarry. I felt bad for him, so I rolled quietly down there and started doing donuts on the ice with him. The two of us just skated around the ice like we were performing a ballet. (I had Timeless FM on my car radio, so that may have been affecting me.) Not surprisingly we won 11-0, but we were still up only two games to one.
Next up was a game of Infected. Single Guy was infected and we were survivors. This time, everyone went down to the ice and we all did donuts together for five minutes, enemy and teammates alike. He didn’t try to infect us. We didn’t try to run into each other. It was just six people who love this game playing together. The classical music and all the slowly spinning, drifting cars was beautiful. In a small way it reminded me of the Christmas soccer game between the Germans and the English in World War I.
Of course when it was time to switch sides, the entire team swarmed him to get it over with and win the games. It was a hilarious ending to a lovely moment in this game I’ll likely never experience again.
