A question for the people who actually know how to drift. When drifting on dirt roads, is it better to use RWD or AWD? Street tires or dirt tires? I have a lot of trouble with the dirt drift zones. The biggest reason is I suck. But also, the allowable drifting area on dirt roads is a lot narrower than on paved roads, and that kills me.

I mean I use AWD & Dirt Tires, with Rally Suspension, and I send it.

Horizon 2 you would have other cars racing you to a destination, usually a rabbit you tried to keep up with, made the trips fun. I dont see any of that now, is there a setting to add that?

Just anytime you drove anywhere on the map you would have this, not now though.
No, only Horizon 2 had that.

Thanks.

I find that the Hoonigan Maloo with AWD is more than enough to get top scores on the dirt drift zones.

I apologise in advance if this has already been covered, but I'm not going to wade through 1.5k posts on this thread with no search facility, so.... In FH3 there was a photo collector where you could take pictures of cars and get credits for every unique car that you snapped. Does anyone know if this is in FH4 or is planned in any way?

No, the photo promo isn't in FH4.

A lot of the dirt drift zones are an absolute pain in the ass, even for someone like me who's moderately good at drifting. RWD will work with some effort on the pure dirt ones, but the muddy ones you might as well use an AWD car and a fair bit of luck.

WRONG!

The main problem isn't that you suck. You're actually probably just fine. The main problem is drift zones on dirt roads are kind of a bad idea since points are largely determined by a combination of angle and speed. RWD means no speed in the dirt and AWD means no angle in the dirt.

I've had more success using FD cars, but i reckon something with dirt tires and RWD would ultimately be the best for racking up big scores. But if you're looking to make this as easy as possible, AWD plus tons and tons of power would probably work okay.

There's one in particular that the road is probably like 2 feet wide, from what it seemed like trying the damn event.

I've managed to get massive angle in the dirt. You go in completely sideways and just smash the gas and it'll likely rotate around the whole turn like that. It's easier to do in high power AWD cars though.

Is that the one in the mountain around the Arthur's Seat area? That one took me forever to nail. There's another one in the Moorlands that's very difficult... doesn't require a huge amount of points but it's so tight and so narrow you really have a hard time linking it.

I'm having more trouble with the speed zones than any other PR stunt, for some reason.

I don't remember to be honest. I ran into it during a Forzathon event and remembering it being a terrible time  Luckily I managed to three star it on that one event so I never had to go back and do it again. It was in the rain and me having a giant ass van, it wasn't the best experience. Not to mention having to try to see things through so many ghosted cars.

I do suck at drifting. Not sure what to use and then how or how to get one started and keep it going.

Easy, loads of power, AWD and hold onto the handbrake. Turn into the corner and get the back end losoe, then when you're around 45 degrees to the corner, mash the throttle, release the handbrake and turn out of the corner. If you're still in the corner and you're starting to straighten up, turn back into the corner.

With a bit of experience, you can use the Scandinavian Flick:

Cant wait to get home and try it. No handbrake but I know how to do it with the foot I think.

If you're looking to do more uh...controlled RWD drifting, you'll want to start with something Rear wheel drive with not too much rear tire, maybe like a BMW M3 or something. You can give it a little more horsepower, but don't go too crazy (keep it under 500 if you're playing forza horizon, closer to 300 if you're playing forza motorsports.) Just start by practicing donuts in a parking lot, the whole idea is to be able to change the line you're making using the throttle rather than the steering. 90 percent of (rwd) drifting is throttle control, learning how much is too much and how much is not enough.

More gas, and you'll increase the angle of your slide, less gas pedal and your rear end will start to tuck in, eventually taking you out of a drift.

Lots and lots and lots of advanced techniques beyond that, but really start out with donuts is my advice as someone who loooves drifting and has been doing it in video games since Gran Turismo 3.

It's called Switchbacks and only needs 65,000 points. The closest I've gotten is 58,270. I was using the Viper from the Formula Drift pack, though. I think I'll try the Hoonigan Escort Cossie next.

My experience with drifting is that AWD with around a 30/70 split is usually optimal, with lower power cars needing up to 80% at the rear.

I prefer awd with 80-85% rear bias

...Has anyone noticed that you aren't actually playing in your region on Horizon Life?

Welp, this is probably why I never seem to stay in the same server after finishing an event...

If I had to hazard a guess, it probably tries to put you in the least populated server that you have a reasonable ping time for, for load balancing purposes.

You'd probably be getting a lot more of those messages if you were region restricted to North America.

I won the Chevy Nova FE, sold it on the AH, and then won another one about a week later
Amazing! Though I'm not sure if I should bother doing that with my Falcon. I looked at the auction house and people aren't bidding on them.

Well, I have 2 reasons to be happy for this weekly Forzathon challenge. 1. There's no big skillpoint challenge this time. 2. Ford Capri, that is all.

My first 3-star drift zone :odd:
