Forza Horizon 5: General Discussion

Photo Mode has been frustrating over the past couple games. In the first three games, it was super easy. Just hit pause and there was photo mode. They took it out of the pause menu completely for the last game. It’s back but buried deep in the pause menu for this game. Worse, in a strange, Quality-of-Life affecting bug that PG seem to have no intention of fixing, you can’t photograph a car with the wheels turned. Or can you? Yes you can. I figured out how to do it through rigorous testing and experiment- Ha Ha no. I looked it up on Reddit like everyone else. But I don’t recall it being discussed here, so for the two or three people who haven’t figured it out ahead of me, here’s how you do it.

First, enter solo mode. This won’t work in Horizon Life. Go do your crazy drifting or whatever, then rewind to before the shot you want to take. Instead of hitting “resume from here”, hit replay. Pause at the moment you want to photograph. Now you select “take a picture” and it’s photo mode like normal except your car has its wheels turned like a real car and everything. It’s a big dumb workaround for a problem that shouldn’t even exist, but at least the workaround is there.

Just wanna mention, you can also have Photo Mode assigned to a button on your controller in the settings options, so you can activate it while you're driving without having to dig through the menu. I have mine set to D-pad Up, for instance.

Otherwise, full agreement on everything else, especially having to dip out of Horizon Life to take proper action shots. I'm also annoyed that you can't save your custom photomode setting(s) and have them available as a preset. Seems like a really obvious QoL upgrade imo.

I'm very curious as to why PGG haven't scheduled a Livestream for the HW expansion and Series X this week, considering that it drops in a week on the 19th.
I feel like they haven't done any sort of marketing for this expansion (i felt the same about the Formula Drift pack that they seemingly dropped without any prior notice at launch), since the trailer dropped. They barely showed us or talked about anything more than the reveal even in the forza monthly.
I'm guessing they will hold the july forza monthly on 18th July (monday), but i feel it would be too close to launch to build up hype.

I have d-pad up for photo mode on my controller, too. The problem is that I’m trying to steer with my left thumb, so pressing and holding d-pad up means I stop steering and the wheels go back to straight before photo mode is activated. In FH4 I assigned photo mode to pressing down on the right joy stick. It was clumsy but it worked.

I was wondering why I was unable to take photos with the wheels turned anymore. Thank you for this workaround!
While we're on the subject, maybe I should start setting up single-player races more often and use photo mode during the replay.... This is another way to get photos while turning (and less worrying about taking your left thumb off the stick to hit d-pad up), although it is understandably less... instantaneous.

I've been playing FH4 on Steam mainly as something to do after I finish FH5's playlist every Thursday and I even prefer the Photo mode on there. One of the main things I noticed was how effortless it is to snap nice crisp photo's even with close to stock settings. I have found decent cam settings for FH5 that look good but FH4's just look way more clear, Sharper and better Clarity for me on PC.

Also yeah, I have noticed that if you dont play in Horizon Life you lose the delay when taking photo's. So especially if you want to catch a car drifting with the wheels turned I have to go out of Horizon life to do it. If I do it online with the Delay the countersteering wheels will be close to straight by the time the photo mode loads.

Strange, I've never had an issue with the wheels not pointing where I wanted them to be pointing in photo mode, even in Horizon live mode.

No way to verify it, but I think it's connection based in some capacity. I've had it where I activate photo mode while driving, and it takes a few good seconds for the camera to come up, all with my car rolling forward the whole time, and other times it'll pop up in half a second.

You must have some sort of Series XXX console (or PC equivalent) because even with my Series S, I can't get the wheels to stay turned. If the car is moving when I pause the game, when I select Photo Mode, the car then continues moving for a second or two until it actually enters Photo Mode. By that time, the wheels have turned back to straight despite anything I try to do with the steering. Same with using d-pad up. Even if the car is stationary, the wheels return to straight ahead no matter what I do with the steering.

I have seen a bunch of posts and photos on Horizon's official FB and Instagram accounts - but not the usual hype they tend to put out on Twitch and YouTube.

This week's EventLab might set a new record for the dumbest one yet.

Edit: The seasonal version is a solo run for S1 cars and is not as bad as a result. The regular event uses A class and the AI cannot finish the race.

Played a bit last night on Steam to complete the last remaining dailies I had left and the new non hot wheels Achievements triggered in the Xbox App.

Damn. Just rebooted the game and ALL the Achievements popped
It was weird for me when all of a sudden the pop-up told me that I was .017% of people to do something. I can't even remember what it was, but it sounded bland - like achieving an achievement.

Edit: It was "The Grand Opening", which doesn't sound like it should be that rare.

I just did the eventlab, and although it was rough here and there (I messed like twice in certain parts of it) I kinda enjoyed it. But maaaan. My car's poor back legs (suspension) really must've hurt because the tracks weren't smooth enough. :(

Anyways, I took my 2020 Audi RS3 on it, and it's a lot easier with 4WD. However, I salute to those who've done it in RWD and even FWD vehicles. :)

Much love to the hero that bought my Nash Metro for 20Mill last night. I mean I don't really need the money but I prefer it than having two Nash Metro's with it being in this weeks playlist.

Just now, I ran into an extremely strange bug. While attempting the Street Race (I picked Festival Gatecrash) for the Buick GNX Forzathon, I ended up experiencing a strange glitch disabling collision with all other cars. I just drove right through all the AI like they were other players in Freeroam. I've heard of "flying through the competition," but this is ridiculous! :D

I've restarted the game since, and the bug disappeared. Very, very odd.

I used an '87 Firebird for seasonal event lab. This is a tuned car set up for road racing and has a low ride height.

Yes, needless to say I regret my choice of this car.
The long front overhang of this car always caused contact with the road surface and gave me the worst experience.

Changed up what cars I use for S1 as my previous picks were slow/undriveable.

That means new liveries :)
