Or... boot up Xbox Companion on your PC. Don't need Gold for multiplayer there.
As far as I can see Companion doesn't work with Series X|S. Remote Play does, but it only supports 1080p streaming.👎

According to this you can't stream from Series X or S.
Honestly, with the interchangeability of terms, I don't actually know what that means. Does that not refer to playing games that are on your Xbox using your PC?

I currently have no Xbox consoles plugged in at all (the One X burst about two months back, and the Series X is still in its box having picked it up on Saturday) and have been playing FH4 quite happily on my PC with the Xbox App (not XCC; apparently that was replaced a few weeks ago with a new Xbox App, my mistake) throughout that time, including multiplayer and I don't have Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass/Game Pass Ultimate. I got 100% on the last Series without even having an Xbox in the house, so nothing was streaming from a console.

What kind of resolution are you getting?

4K60.

The game code was supplied by Microsoft for our Super7 preview, and installed originally on my Xbox One X - I didn't have this PC at the time. After I built the PC (and upgraded to Win10!) I installed the Xbox app (initially the Console Companion, but latterly the Xbox app) and it decided I had the game and could play it on the PC. Swapping between the PC and console simply required save synchronisation, and that was that.

As I say, the XB1X has been out of commission for quite some time (seemed to be a power supply issue, but having repaired that it crashes when FH4 - the only game I have - boots up; I was going to reset the console, but I couldn't see the point), and the XBSX is over there on the shelf still in its box while I reorder the office.

I could get 4k60 if I installed FH4 directly on my PC and had a suitable card. Not sure why one'd need an Xbox App for this.
It's not really a case of need, but that this is how it's happened.

As I say, MS supplied the code for my XB1X when I didn't even have this PC. The Xbox App installed when I built the PC seemed to know I had it, so I used to play it on XB1X and then switch to the PC for the multiplayer stuff, and back. Then the XB1X popped, so I've been playing it on PC only ever since. As far as I'm aware, it's not streaming the game, because there's no consoles to stream it from.

The net result is I'm playing a digital copy of FH4 that I was given for XB1 on my PC instead through the Xbox App, including the multiplayer for which I don't need XBox Gold (and indeed don't have).

I was playing FH4 on my PC up until recently as well. As discussed earlier Play Anywhere titles can be played on PC and console. My 1070 card could only handle 4k30 though and I couldn't find any 30xx cards available for sale on the market which could display 60Hz. That's why I bought a Series X.

So ultimately the same solution - you don't need XBox Gold for multiplayer, just hop onto PC and sync your save for the couple of events each season?

For those people who are lucky enough to own a PC that can handle it, sure.

I think Horizon Arcade is out, though.

You don't need Gold for any multiplayer activity on PC.

Well, here’s a rather vague statement about the Xbox One version of the game:

There's no reason to believe it'll look that different from FH4 on the OG Xbox One, which was fine.

But it is a little concerning that we still haven't seen any gameplay and we're 11 days away from Early Access. This was something PG even promised during one the Let's Go streams so hopefully they can put this to bed sooner rather than later.

They are likely being careful showing the Xbox One version as the internet continues to be the internet. Some idiots will take the pictures or videos and try to show how Horizon 5 looks bad while not mentioning that they are showing Xbox One footage.

The community on the internet is really that bad.

Microsoft has already had to deal with that kind of crap and they are likely being careful about it.

Yes to which?
Yes

I was both referencing the "11" in Shell and being sarcastic.

No need to get upset.

Also responding "yes" to answer yes to a question of either or is a meme.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. I'm positive even PG knows this as well, which might explain why we've haven't seen any footage. Maybe they are waiting for the right time to show it. I don't blame them, because there are fools out there within the community who will try to ruin FH5's image with every chance they get.

If Microsoft has learned anything from last generation, it is that controlling presentation is everything.

If there is a leak you need to get ahead of it and always try to have the best showing.

Halo Infinite showing was a misstep but one of the very few they have made so far this generation when it comes to presentation.

Sony has been better at this for a longer time but that is mostly due to them being very quiet. Microsoft has managed to be very active with the community while also staying ahead of negative press which is pretty impressive.

They are being smarter about how to present things too; like when they brought Digital Foundry in to look at the Xbox Series X before it launched.

They are literally releasing a mini-fridge Xbox Series X, turning a negative meme to make it a positive.

Sometimes the internet doesn’t even need to do anything, Microsoft themselves mess up quite good just on their own. 😁

With 10 days to go, this seems appropriate:

Open your eyes, listen closely to the sound of my voice.

With every word and every number, you move faster and faster.

On the count of ten, you will be in Horizon.

I say...
I need an adult.

I did mention this in my post.
