This whole FOMO thing is extremely annoying....I still don't know if they have said that the events will be permanent. I still haven't purchased the Xbox Series X yet. (I know this comment should be in the FM23 section)

...on the flipside, I have yet to even try FM2023 due to certain factors cough launch. nuff said cough FH5 still getting updates, many of which actually killer cough meh FM2023 updates. Maybe this is my ticket for giving it a shot, who knows.
FM23 was on sale at half price a few months ago, so I finally bought it. I played it for a couple months, realized it was a massive time sink and really not that interesting, and uninstalled it.

I sub to GamePass so I've just played it on there. I bought the previous FM but found that it just didn't hold me attention that well, hence the lack of purchase this time. To honest I think I've only played FM23 a handful of times.

It is a far improved game from its launch version but I think I just prefer the FH model.

I've just never played it, I'm more of an FM4 man and that'll probably never change. But I do admit, its model does sound more like a FOMO version of GT7's--some cars go right into the showroom, some are tour reward cars that don't come back for any reason. I don't even think they have Hard-to-Finds, which makes that whole thing feel worse.

They do with the unlockable exclusive cars in the monthly career tours, but it's like... you can play all of them on free play without owning the car, you just need to know the tricks in setting up the event.

I enjoy free play and just setting up a race with any car at any time, but what is lacking is the feel that it's a game that has progression, in which it just becomes Assetto Corsa Content Manager, but make it Forza.

I will say that FM23's physics and Xbox controller feel are the best of any Forza game so far. I was so happy when they finally got rid of that awful mid-corner-oversteer behaviour from FM7 and earlier, and likewise the behaviour over curbs has been completely changed for the better.

The actual driving is good fun, but as a single player game it definitely lacks most of the things which I love about Horizon.

My main concern about FM23 is actually the "from the ground up" game engine being used. If that is going to form the basis of FH6, I can imagine lots of delays and problems getting it all working as it should. What's worse is that most of the graphical improvements are left to ray tracing and the actual lighting model itself is a clear step back from FH4 or FH5 (except for glass headlights). So I hope PG has enough freedom to pick and choose what they want to use as FH6's underlying tech, rather than being forced to fix the issues in the new engine from T10.

Yeah, considering how my own GPU can't handle ray-tracing--I had to turn off the ray-tracing in Forzavista 'cause I knew it was impacting frame rate in its interiors--an FH6 that's totally reliant on it would be a no-sell for me. T10's ultimately in charge of Horizon's tech so if they make PG use ForzaTech, warts and all, I guess I'd be hopeful they'd figure out a way to skirt around those issues.

If PG is using the latest ForzaTech for Fable, I think they'll feel confident enough to run FH6 on it. The grace with Horizon not needing to focus as much on realism, might be easier for PG's goals with it than T10 given (IIRC), more realisitc tire physics was the talking point for a new engine altogether.

IMO, FH6 could run just fine in the current engine, as FH5 is consistently one of the go titles when testing GPU performance. The one thing I would like to see is the better headlights/taillights of FM.
For sure. If they bring over any graphics improvements from FM, I really hope it's these. It just makes getting photos of the vehicles so much more fun and also adds a bit more immersion when you're driving, since you're seeing the tail lights a lot especially.

So yesterday I realized one of the two cars I sold off to help me catch back up with Horizon Extreme and Holiday Mixup was in the Backstage Shop already, so I snapped it back up using one of the Passes I've been saving. At this point, once I get the GTO next week, my Horizon journey will probably end with that unless they do add cars with Horizon Realms. So I figure, may as well wax lyrical like everyone else seems to be doing. :P

I actually never bought FH5 myself, the Ultimate Edition I have was a gift from one of my Steam friends. He'd been playing a lot of Warframe and... I swear I remember him joking that, once I got through a lot of the live service stuff, he got it for me just so I knew what it was like for him to be playing that. :P I'll have to remember to give him some back-sass once everything's all wrapped up.

That being said though... The other day, I installed Playnite, just to make my life easier once FH5 does end for me and it's time to pick a new game to play on my PC. What I saw pretty much absolutely floored me--all told, FH5 accounted for around 40% of all my time playing PC games, and that's not counting all those times I did start a game without Steam and never got super far with it.

Like it or not, for pretty much all of FH5's runtime, this game pretty much defined my entire gaming existence. I can certainly imagine my life without it, but to finally, truly be freed from Mexico's live service, even if only for a couple months before we have to start thinking about Horizon Realms and what that might bring (I'm still firmly on Team Realms when it comes to when we get our final cars), is absolutely surreal to think about. Despite only missing that one car until next week, I've never missed an Evolving World update. I've seen some truly tremendous highs, and some hilariously low lows. Even though this was my first Horizon since FH1 twelve years ago, and even though I wish I could've been there for all of FH4 as well going by how much better that game flows, I can confidently say I will never forget anything I saw in Mexico over these last three years.

With that in mind... well, one more week left for me to enjoy Mexico to the fullest, right? I'd better get to the rest of this bucket list.

We'll probably know what the community picked for our first returning Playlist starting tomorrow. Going by the less-than-inspiring returning car list for Italian Automotive, I'll bet it's High Performance that won.
