Random observation; after using the hired driver to run several of the endurance races for me I noticed that tire wear does NOT seem to factor much into gameplay this time around. The pit I closely followed was either for the R1 or R2 endurance and the AI pit was clearly only triggered by fuel as the tire wear was like only 24% front and 26% rear. I mean that's nothing. I remember in F2 the rears on a R1 car would be near solid red, or orange for the AI driver, when it came time to pit. Guess I'll need to try an endo on my at some point and compare, but just with this data it seems clear they tweaked something in the code regarding tire life.

Edit....
Another data point, right now I'm watching the AI racing a D350 Clio-V6 around Motegi and after 26 laps the tire wear is 18.3% F/22.1% R. According to wiki TR Motegi is 2.98 miles per lap so that's 77.5 miles of racing and barely 1/5 of the tire has scrubbed off. Maybe I'm wrong headed here but this seems pretty inaccurate to me.

I'm not surprised...how about fuel, do cars with larger engines consume more? In FM2 it was the same for all cars.

That is one of those Forza quirks, both having one pit per enduro near the end of the race, and one rate of fuel consumption for all cars. I wonder if it favors the Corvette any. ;)

Another bug that gripes me is, once again, the right whisker vane on the Forza nose race mod is missing on the Ford GT. There was something else I spotted today that made me wonder if the quality people were just playing the game all this time.

It'd be extremely hard to determine fuel efficiencies when a car is running flat out around a track. Numbers you get off manufacturers, out of magazines, off websites, etc, for fuel efficiency are when the car is being driven in the most sedate way possible. When racing, the numbers would be totally different and there's no real way to test it without testing each car individually.

My sister owns a modern 4 cyl eco box, but when she drives with a lead foot the efficiency drops to what my 30yo, carburetted, 6cyl medium sized family car gets (which gets similar efficiency regardless of whether you drive it hard or not).

When I drove my Lancer (2.0L I4) hard at the track a few times, I compared my onboard computer consumption with other people, one of which was a 2.5L Subaru Legacy SpecB (turbo I4) and the other one was a Cadillac CTS-V, and I believe mine was the car that consumed the most since I was pushing it the most relatively speaking (upshifting at redline), whereas the CTS-V guy was taking a bit more mildly since his car was so fast anyway.

Very hard to accurately judge what fuel consumption should be on the race track.

one thing i noticed is that some of the dash/cluster instruments don't work on the in-car views. I was doing the Puegeot racing the the 206 (can't remember exactly) the 4wd Race version you win, and no tach or speed-o (have the HUD turned off). As well as the Hypermax EVO, kinda funny, but ohh well i do think in the end certain things were rushed to get it out on release day, overall it's fun game a car enthusiast should enjoy.

I'm really hoping that's patched. It's also in the F1 GTRs, the Rahal Letterman M3 GT2, the R34-based Skyline GT-R JGTC, & I believe in the Corvette C6Rs. 👎

FWIW - One last post on tire wear and fuel consumption, just had the CPU run the E class enduro and Catalunya. For this one I used a '68 Plymouth (located under Chrysler in the game) Barracuda with a AWD conversion (blasphemy I know) listed as weighing 3,613 lbs and rated at 444 bhp. I've paused the game just before the finish line and after 26 laps or 75.4 miles, at 2.9 miles per lap, the 'Cuda did not stop once for additional fuel and only abraded the tires to the rate of 23.6% F/19.2% R. As I downloaded the tune from the Storefront I don't know what tires were selected but I think there's little doubt that a 6.3L V8 pushing a 1.8 ton vehicle with AWD losses would likely consume more fuel than the lighter RWD V6 Clio over a similar race distance.

Exactly, because my cars rated at 13/19 mpg and on the race track it gets 4.5 :D

I bet PD figures it out.

Known about that for a couple of days now, but all the more reason to keep on playing! Although I have to admit I always confuse late models as a reference to older cars...it makes more sense to me, a 1967 Corvette is going to be what, an early model? :P

...You know what? Please don't answer that question.

Erm, take two cars with nearly identically sized gas tanks, yet considerably different sized/powerful engines to Benchmark High Speed Ring on a "test drive". Stay full throttle for probably no more than ten laps. One would run out sooner if there's a difference.

Is there a way to give Turn10 suggestions? I wish they would allow you to change the OFFSET of the wheels to make nice flush fitment. Some cars look amazing but if the nice aftermarket wheels would sit flush or poke a bit would look SOO much better than to have them hiding in the fenders. Just something i thought about. Minimal, but would be a visual pleasure. :)

That's probably not something they'd consider worth adding. There would probably be complications when you put a 20"+ wheel on something with a lower offset and slam it. I think a lot of cars would probably have the tire clipping through the fender, given that the huge wheels are usually tucked. But actually, I think most, if not all, of my cars that are dropped and with aftermarket wheels do have them pretty flush. Older cars probably have the biggest problem there. It does bug me that some wheels don't look different on different cars when the offset would be different. Work Emotion CR Kai's for example, have convex spokes on FWD cars and for RWD cars the rear wheels are a nice deep concave design. Looks like an entirely different wheel then.

It's terrible that I haven't played this at all since MW2 came out...

Yeah the Work Xd9's are similar in that way, i have them on my real s13 240sx and they look nothing like they do in real life anyways, NFS Shift had a better representation of them (even though they call them something different). You're right the wheels would probably be coming through the fender on suspension compression like it did in some GT4 instances or even FM2. I just hope one day i can pony up the money for the Fanatec wheel so i can see what the game really has to offer.

My accounts all sorted by the way, big thanks to bogie beacuse after emailling that guy everything was soretd pretty quick. I just haven't had my 360 online though until last night.

It appears to just be a technical error, but I've emailed a-fredh thanks to Bogie for proving the address and I hope to hear back soon.

Awesome. Glad you got it fixed!

Had a bit of a session with Tenacious and a few other people (whom I'm unsure whether they're members here or not) but it was a bit of a shame as it seemed I might have been a bumper/crasher/punter, and that just wasn't the case. Unfortunately, I'm still not at all used to FM3's overly sensitive brake settings, or lockup settings as it should be referred to.

In any case just wanted to apologize on my behalf. :guilty:

Oh, so that was you! :grumpy:

Nah, it was fine. I was surprised to remember how touchy the brakes were. I didn't have any of the cars set up the guys were choosing because I like the lower class racing in E to C. And some pf those wacky choices - Range Rovers around Tsukuba?? Plus I've been a painting fool the past week, so the only racing I've done is to shoot pics for show and tell. Half the races, I was fighting to catch up to the pack.

Speaking of, I have to see about this one project...

That was with myself. The other two people were from my friends list and not from this forum. We wanted to restart after the Koenigsegg race crash between the two of us, but it seemed like you were away, so I just chose to call it a night since it was late.

Anyway, I had a really good time, maybe I'll see you online tonight too. 👍

OH, that's right, we did rather bail on you. Yeah, it was just that the game was stuck with you gone, Terr, and I had to eat something myself. We promise, no death threats or harsh words. ;)

I'll see if I can get painting out of the way, and hopefully a few more cars set up in case an invite gets thrown my way tonight.

Sorry I wasn't around last night, had a bit of a rough night and I just didn't feel like playing anything.

If all goes well I should be around later on tonight, other than being on now.

EDIT: What the hell is the deal with their website? I've already posted several things and they've never showed up. :odd:

A lot of good racing last night guys...Question though - who was Grits and Skrills? Not the cleanest driver...

Thanks for the races MINCOOPER and Tenacious, I needed to run out and get a couple of takeaway meals before TopGear came on.

Well, my PS3 died (again), probably irreparably this time, so I went ahead and picked up F3 since GT5 has now been pushed off into some distant fantasy land whenever I buy another PS3.

I've only played it for a few hours, but it's not bad.. definitely doesn't feel as clunky as F1 and the F2 demo did. The sim aspects seem about right, since I can place well in most races with most of the aids off (I leave traction control and ABS on since the cars in question have those IRL). I've gotten practically nowhere in career mode yet, but I've driven quite a bit in arcade mode since all the cars are available. Which in itself is a flaw, I suppose.. kind of takes away the motivation to grind races in career mode when I can just hop over to arcade mode and take the Bugatti for a spin.

I haven't gotten into the customization aspect yet, especially since I'm one of those "purists" who enjoys cars for what they are as opposed to what I can make them. I did practically no upgrading in GT4, for example.. when I needed to go faster, I'd just buy a faster car. And I've always been vehemently opposed to "ricing" out my cars with kits and vinyls. But that changed just before I bought the game, when I saw a picture of a car with a vinyl design that looked, dare I say it, somewhat dignified. On closer inspection (I found the pic again, it's a R8 on IGN), it's still a bit gaudy for my tastes, but it gave me the idea of making liveries that weren't eye-rippingly awful like most of them are. The same will go for body kits, I suppose.. using the ones that add a subtle line to the car here and there rather than something outrageous. And, of course, using the opportunity to make Bumblebee and KITT.. lol.

I did have a question about photo mode, since I haven't had the opportunity to play with it yet. I see a lot of people with the cars "posed" in a particular position on a track. Is there an option for that, or do you actually have the park the car there in free-run mode, then come back and take the picture during replay? From the look of the pictures I've seen so far, the photo mode seems several steps above what GT4 had, and I really hope Polyphony is paying attention.

All in all, I'm happier with it than I thought I'd be. $60 well spent, I'd say. And it's nice to dust off the ol' X360.. lol.

You have to actually drive your car to the desired position, but you don't have to wait for the replay. Just pause the game right there and you'll have an option to get into photo mode.
