And I'm floored we get free DLC, that's something I would never expect from any developer.
This isn't free DLC at all. It is an acute marketing decision. The content is ready to go, part of Forza 3, but they have shaved those cars off as a marketing tool to say 'hey look, we'll give you more for nothing'. As a consequence they look good.

About Forza 3, the game. The thing I'm most looking forward to are the beastly Australian V8 cars. Watch it here in the UK (glad to see the 888 Vodafone cars is in) but it's a shame that no Australian tracks have made the cut.

Also looking forward to painting that NASCAR.

Really pissed that the Ferrari F430 Scuderia is LE only though. It's my favourite gaming car :grumpy:

You know this for a fact then? Source?

Surprise! I am not into Nascar but I was pretty shocked to see these stock cars in Forza 3. Now we can easily make any Nascar type we want. In GT5 you will be limited to the existing cars in the game. In Forza 3 we will have unlimited.

I really wish Turn 10 would sort out their tail lights, they look stuck on.

:P

:P

NASCAR tailights ARE stuck on.

As are the headlights. They are stickers.

Sorry, I didn't see your tongue smiley. I see you were just kidding. My bad!

And man oh man...I can't wait to take a Chevy Monte Carlo NASCAR around the ring. That could actually be pretty neat. I didn't like the idea of having NASCAR in the game at first when I heard about it in GT5 (and I mentioned that), but I didn't think about the ability to take these cars on tracks OTHER than NASCAR tracks. I guess I need to think outside the box a little more.

I welcome this addition into both games.

No COTs though and i really hope for you all that some really skilled people will do the liveries.

GREAT addition though, no "sandbox" racing game should be without NASCARs, i am glad the devs finally realised this.

I just read this. We will get an 8 lane drag strip. Heck yeah!

"The Benchmark High Speed Ring is best described as an old airfield and hangar converted into a race track and automotive playground, perfect for all manner of creative “Forza Motorsport” hoonage and multiplayer mayhem. The track is characterized by 3.96 miles of rough surfaces and huge open areas, featuring a massive oval, an 8-lane drag strip, and an airplane hangar that players can drive (or drift) through."

I hope to be first on the block with a Wrangler and Goodwrench #3 NASCAR with a Dale tribute. I might even do a couple of his limited paint jobs, like this one:

I would imagine you could download it again, since it should show you already paid for it through XBL.

Wait, what? Which DLC is free? All of it?

Yeah the 8 lane drag strip will be so awesome and it also surprised me. Cant wait to line up a wide assortment of vehicles for that awesomeness. It will basically be an open sandbox type area to just have fun and cruise around together. Forza 3 has truly nailed just about everything the entire community has been asking for. They have nailed the fun factor for sure. :)

No, there is a card included with every Forza game that let's you download 10 cars. They did this to encourage people to buy the retail game instead of buying it used or piracy. The only people that can get those cars are people that buy it at retail (unless of course someone decided to sell their DLC code on eBay).

The 1957 German Grand Prix was a Formula One race held on 4 August 1957 at Nürburgring. The 22 lap race was won by Juan Manuel Fangio, and is often cited as one of the greatest victories in racing history.

-------

Over the next 10 laps, Fangio broke and rebroke the lap record 9 times (7 of the records were in successive laps). Early in the 21st lap, Fangio was beside Collins on a straightaway, approaching a bridge that was barely wide enough for both cars to fit side by side. Collins backed off, and Fangio took 2nd place. Late in the 21st lap, during a left corner, Fangio cut past Hawthorn on the inside of the corner, with only his right tires on the track and his left tires on the grass. Fangio maintained his lead, and won the race.

So no, it isn't unrealistic.

Lest you forget, in 1957, F1 car look like this

800px-Vanwall_VW5_Aintree_1957.jpg

It's not the same as today's racers. And the top speed was 180mph, quite a bit slower than what it is now. Talk to anyone who has driven on the "Ring, for most part (especially the faster section) you try and avoid getting you car tires onto the curb, let alone the grass beside it.

Back to timing in racing/driving sim- I know that rFactor always try to calibrate their physics so as to achieve time(s) that's nominal to what's been achieved on the particular track. rFactor Pro (version for the racing/car industry) is being used by F1 team in the car R&D, so it's quite important for the sim to reflect some real world behaviour and performance. I'm quite sure PD does the same thing. But one of the factor that most people tend to forget, but it's very important in determining the end result is the FFB of the wheel. Especially the effects themselves but more so the resistance/power in the FFB. A weaker FFB either inherent to the game itself, or by manually changing the setting in the game, would always result in a faster lap times because less effort is required to drive/handle the car. It would be great if one day there's one standard FFB setting for all drving games- one less variables to contend with.

The reason why it would be interesting to see how much closer to real word timing FM3 will achieve with the better designed and much more powerful Fanatec wheel. It would further emphasize the need for T10 to accurately depict track like the Nordschleife. It's the one single track almost all the car manufacturers use as the ground to test their cars and it's such a waste if FM3 actually has the physics T10 is claiming. If you could pull at 7:40 lap in a stock Mazda RX-8, any legitimate claim to FM3 being a sim, goes out the window in my humblest opinion.

I was at Road America in July, and had my car out on the track. It's actually pretty darn accurate in FM2.

It's not bad but you don't get the slight but noticeable descend from turn 1 to 3. The Morraine Sweep also lacks the elevation change and the last is the descend on the approriately named Hurry Downs. It seems to me that that the track designer at T10 either can't quite grasp the idea of elevation change, or can't be bothered.

I'm willing to bet this will be US only as I've not heard anything about it in the UK.

It's very confusing what cars are available with which version of the game. The collectors edition is meant to give you access (eventually) to:-

VIP Membership Exclusive Cars:

2009 Aston Martin DBS
2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1
2007 Ferrari 430 Scuderia
2007 Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera
2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RS (997)

Exclusive Collector's Car Pack:

Audi R8 5.2 FSI Quattro (Forza Motorsport 3 Cover Car)
Acura NSX (Forza Motorsport Cover Car)
Nissan Fairlady (Forza Motorsport 2 Cover Car)
Aston Martin DB9 (Forza Motorsport 2 European Cover Car)
2008 Dodge Charger Stock Car (with Xbox 360 livery)

One of those packs will be via voucher redemption, the other I believe they will drip feed us over the coming weeks and months (although I'm not sure how seeing as the data printed on the CE and standard disc must surely be identical).

I can't see them throwing in yet another redeemable voucher in the box for us poor saps outside the US :P

Ah, thanks. I think I remember seeing that list somewhere but read over the part about it being DLC. So this whole airfield thing...You'll find me there 90% of the time I'm playing I bet.

I don't know anything for sure but let's not be naive. The cars were created in the normal development cycle and shaved off for marketing purposes...to look good and help encourage people to buy a brand new rather than used copy of the game. It's not free DLC. It was done, dusted and part of that marketing campaign.

I'm not knocking it though...I'll have them all day one :)

Even so, who cares if they are free? Its different when they take a bunch of Halo cars (say, the ones you get with the LCE) and put them up for download on release day for $6.

The VIP stuff will be available to those in the VIP club, which entry is automatically given to those getting the LCE (yeah, probably a code that attaches to your XBL account or otherwise). Has anybody heard more details on the VIP club, like if its some sort of monthly fee, if LCE owners keep paying, etc?

Quite a few game companies release a game and offer DLC almost right away, I believe Ferrari Challenge is a good example of that.

I'm not being naive, I'm looking at what we know. Turn 10 could have easily shaved off these cars for whatever purpose and then offered them as an 800MS point download a couple weeks after the games release claiming them to be "new content". They didn't though and are offering it free to people who purchase the game....which surprises me, since it goes against the norm.

And since we don't know the reason why these cars didn't make the final cut of the game, I don't think we can fairly make a comment on it.

Well, I was going to add that they also may have been finishing up those cars while FM3 was going gold, but I forgot that its supposed to take a few weeks to get DLC approved also. So that's probably not the case, unless it does take much longer than that for the game to go gold, which it could I suppose as it has to be analyzed by the ESRB and who know what else.

Ferrari Challenge didn't receive any free content on release. In fact it took them a whole year to release any content for the game. In terms of DLC it was a shambles...especially since they promised so much.

Honestly I'm not knocking the free content at all but I'm hard pushed to view it any more than a marketing exercise rather than a specific set of DLC that's going to be free on XBL.

It comes right before I go to Czech Republic for a week with work. I'll try to put a few hours in the couple days before I go.

You just have to buy the LCE to get the VIP membership, You don't have to keep paying as far as I know.

Stock Cars: I hate Nascar's obsession with speedway tracks, but I'm truly happy to see the stock cars in, and in their blank canvas form. I know the Americans will love it, and I expect to see a huge livery collection available for them. It'll be great to pit them against the v8 Supercars in road races.

Intro Trailer: That was an American ad, right? The music had that American family advertisement feel. I hated it. What happened to the cool beats they had in every other video?

Legends Announcement: Don't care, if it's free. I'd be suspicious if they'd come out a bit later, and cost money, given that I know several of them are in Forza 2 already (through DLC). But it's free, so I like it. Besides... who can possibly complain about a free pack with the BMW M1 in it?

Hanger Track: Looks awesome. I was wondering how the gametypes they were talking about like "tag" and capture the flag were going to work on a ribbon style track. Now we know! Can't wait to drive it.

lulwut?

After your endless illogical arguments, all it took to make you stop talking was for a developer to offer you free content?

I love the internet, you get to meet such interesting people.

Now, hopefully the grass and other non-tarmac surfaces on that map aren't the slow-you-down-to-stop-from-cutting-corners type. Hauling some ass in an Evo or Impreza, or even one of the trucks and SUVs would be fun in a cat and mouse game there. Laugh at the guy in the LMP when he's bouncing all over the place.

Make sure your homework well done. Your mother won't like if you get another D in school.

for a developer to offer you free content?

Never heard about free Forza 3. Should I check local game store again?

When somebody cut content from the game and sell it for money, or for extra 20$ or for whatever the reason is it is usually called rip off

Yeah! That'll teach Turn 10 to give out free content! Don't buy their products because they give extra content away for free! What an ugly marketing tactic. Those bastards should've waited another six months and then charged us $6 for those cars. ****ers just giving away free ****, who do they think we are? They better not pull this stunt again in the next few months. I'd hate to not buy extra content when they'd be offering it for free!

See if the sub par in game LOD has been fixed for the build running (more specifically are interiors visable from the outside in gameplay) and do replays use the high LOD that pulls upto the grid.

As for this talk on inaccurate tracks.

That stems from an FOV issue.

From what I have seen in the demo being in car gives a realistic FOV but any other view warps in (and increases sense of speed to boot)
The LOD is much better in the final game. I did not, however, get a chance to check out the replays.

The one thing I really did notice about the full game is that the difficulty of the cars is finally realistic in that race cars take much more concentration to drive fast than say, a BMW M3. Going from a E92 to a F1 GTR to a Diablo GTR, you'll quite clearly see which will take a lot of skill to drive at the limits.

One thing that I've also enjoyed is that lift off oversteer is very well modeled. And again, with the way some cars are more difficult to drive comes to the task of keeping them under control. The M3's easy, the McLaren takes some quick reflexes.

However, with oversteer comes the annoying "barrier", in that every time the car got a little sideways, it was still easy to regain control unless you absolutely pushed it. That was my only main complaint.

Racing on Laguna, Le Mans, & Sebring, I can also say the tracks are very pretty. Laguna is no longer at dusk, and looks a lot better. Sebring also feels more vibrant than before.

And as for the AI, it has gotten ballsy since the demo. I played on custom settings with everything off except ABS (the Diablo I left TCS on). In my Diablo race, I was pitted against a Porsche GT3 race car, HKS Evo, and the Audi RS6 Touring car from FM2, as my main opposition.

During the 2nd lap right before the corkscrew, I could see the Evo & the Porsche battling, bumping into each other. Coming down the turn, the Porsche bumps the Evo off the turn, which lead to it coming back on the road right in front of me...sideways. Unable to brake completely, I did clip him, and he bumped back into the Porsche. During this time, the RS6 had avoided the Evo & regained speed. And on the last straight to the finish line, I caught the Evo coming up fast, and while trying to pressure him, I didn't see that the RS6 was already next to me, leaving me behind to finish 2nd. But no, the Evo caught my attempt, and cut back over to the other side, leaving me in between both cars finish 3rd.

The whole game, though, is just wow. It's going to be quite an amazing game with gorgeous sounds, well-made interiors (though the F1 GTR seemed to not have its display on), and very, very smart AI who put up a great challenge.

Eric: I don't think boycotting Turn 10 for this disgraceful mercenary act is good enough. We should write them a Very Angry Letter!

McLaren: Thanks for the info. Sounds really good and I can't wait to play it. Regarding my questions; how much postage do I owe you?
