Woo, platinum everything!

which difficulty setting are you playing on?

Mostly pro, at least one race was unbeatable and I think I did at least one on master (or whatever the one below pro is called) as well.

I can't get get my Dualshock 3 to work with it. Anyone else using it?

Yep. Have you tried ScpToolkit? Or MotionInJoy? You'll need some sort of software to make your DS3 emulate an Xbox controller, Apex won't recognise it straight up.

Respect, mate.

Just got my fist platinum on the Ponycar Roundup - took be a bit and was actually pretty darn challenging. Can't imagine getting Against the Elements platinum'd. Ever.

Actually, you'd be surprised. The ponycar event is one of the hardest, if you can do that you can probably get through the rest of them. Ponycar took me a couple of days on and off, I kept going away and doing other ones when I got frustrated. Against the Elements took me I think four tries, mostly figuring out how aggressive I needed to be through Eau Rouge on the first lap.

There's a few tough ones, but most aren't really as hard as you might think. ;)

If you want an easy win, try the drift event on the TGTT on unbeatable. Super, super easy once you get braking points down.

There's a few hints to anyone else who is trying this.

Start at lower difficulties and work your way up. You always need to complete all the objectives to get platinum, so work on your ability to do that. You sometimes don't need particularly high difficulty settings depending on what your other assists are.

The highest PI car is sometimes the fastest, but not always. Try the Audi LMS for example, it's a nice one. If you're having trouble, change cars and give it a shot. Or look at the leaderboards and see what other people are using, there's usually at least three or four competitive cars.

Tuning isn't necessary, but it can make it easier if you know what you're doing. I don't really know what I'm doing, but some basic tuning helped me through a couple of races where I was struggling.

Its been a week and i still can't get past that blank tab that appears in the "press a to enter" screen, at this point i dont know how to fix this issue :(

I've been using Motioninjoy for all my PC games. I'll try ScpToolkit.

That's where Xbox Live or whatever they're calling it now popped up for me. It wanted me to sign in the first time I opened the game. I don't remember if it's something that gets installed separately, but if it is then maybe you could uninstall or reinstall it?

It was installed separately for me, had it long before Apex. Might be worth a try

I'm honestly not event hat inclined to try... I initially thought you'd get additional medals for getting platinum, but nope...

Thus, I'd rather spend my time with free play racing :D

How are guys finding "ze physics"? Does it compare good to other PC sims?
Its a lesser sim akin to GT and, well, Forza in XBox. Its not supposed to compete with those sims and instead delivering a standout game normally released on the consoles.

Feels just like playing Xbox to me but with better graphics. Even the rumble triggers work (I think).

I find it hard to tell, because I can only play Apex with a controller yet I play the PC sims with a wheel. I've tried PC sims with a controller, but only for long enough to know that I don't like it. I'll wait until we get wheel support to tell for sure, but I suspect that it'll be worse than the likes of AC and iRacing, although probably not by much unless you're a high level player.

I should say that I don't find that to be where the game's strengths lie, though. The physics are absolutely more than capable for what they're required to do, maybe more so. What the game does very well is present a small, curated, polished (beta bugs aside) experience.

PC sims give you a great physics system, some cars and tracks, and largely leave it up to the player to make their own fun. They can largely do anything you want, but you have to go out and find (or make) it for yourself.

Apex gives you a beautiful interface, video and voiceover intros to each section, curated fields of cars intended to race against each other, specific challenges to be met, and in-built leaderboards. The experience is limited, but what's there is top notch (again, beta bugs aside).

It's very much the modern equivalent of GT5: Prologue. Spectacular graphics, average to decent everything else, wrapped in a very tight and well presented package.

Controller only, so hard to actually give a meaningful assessment. I'd say it errs more on the simcade side of things. The controller input definitely feels assisted no matter what - that assist might remain in place when wheel supports gets added, eventually, so there's that.

Don't expect it to be on the same level as, say, Asetto Corsa. It's definitely fun, though. Having a racing game with believable physics, great visuals and some plug-and-play-ability that doesn't require me to break out my wheel and whatnot is pretty much what PC racing way missing - for me, at least.

I'd call it a casual sim, more than anything.

That's the best TL;DR description of FM6 if you ask me. It has its faults here and there, but it's pretty enjoyable and not too far away from a 'real' simulation.
I think it also needs to be said that FM6(A) feels way better than FM4 and 5, games in which I struggled with keeping the car stable and planted .. everything I did always resulted in some kind of slide. :nervous:

Something different: Am I the only one who just hates the Streets Without Limits event? (the one at Rio, I think it's the National Reversed layout?) I finally finished that one after around an hour of trying and failing ... 0/10 never again. I think if it wasn't for the AI suddenly hitting walls and spinning out, I would've never beaten that one ...

Maybe I should've enabled some driving assists or turned down the AI strength ...

It's tough. I found the hardest part to be trying to maintain the speed for the achievement, there's a couple of corners where it's very close.

The cars themselves are a real handful to drive unless you have very sensitive fingers. Turning on TC for the higher powered cars can be really helpful, especially on a bumpy track like Rio, and it only costs you a couple percent bonus. And let's be honest, the cars have TC in real life for a reason. One does not simply yolo with 900+ horsepower. ;)

Absolutely. The way the more powerful road cars feel is amazing compared to FM4 (didn't play 5). The Ford GT and the Z06 are pure joy to me. Never would I have had such a great time with stock cars that have gobs of power and no added downforce.

I don't like city courses too much in general, so it wasn't among my most favourite events, either.

Still managed to get it done thanks to lowering the AI difficulty

You don't?! My life is a lie!

The best thing about Apex is the seasonal "spotlight" events. I always felt the 'rivals' events in Forza 6 were very boring and staid. In 2016 the best you can do is feed us monthly hotlaps... and sometimes not even monthly?

The capsule races in Apex is how it should have been done all along.

The Lexus LFA Top Gear event is pretty good and the Sebring LMP event isnt so good but six laps at night is different at least. And there's six more events coming soon with a lot of variety.

Sebring is reasonably challenging as well to do a sufficient pace at night in an LMP without going offtrack for six laps. It's very easy to just outbrake yourself or hit a bump wrong and go just a little too far over the white line.

I agree that the spotlight system is far more interesting than simple hotlapping. They could maybe throw in one hotlap event a week if they wanted, but the race system allows for far more variability and interesting objectives.

I always complain about the races that border on the ridiculous. P900 class LMPs at night tends to lead to some biff bang boom. Once I got past that center clump it was smooth sailing. Bit of a power event too... had a real hard time with the Nissan GTR LMP.

I'm a bit uncertain about the 'Driveclub' like gold coin qualifications... lead by the 1st lap, lap under 2 mins... its there, I dont particularly care for it too much.

That's the downside of stuffing an entire race into what barely equals to a qualifying in real life. Alas, 30+ minutes for a race seems to be a bit of a no-go area outside of dedicated "endurance" events in these 'casual sims'. That's a pet peeve I've had with GT and FM forever, basically.

I kinda like the idea - tying progression to it, not so much. Championship style events are more to my liking - makes winning individual races less mandatory and does away with "gamey" goals for the player to achieve. Then again, I kinda like the "gamey" nature Forza retains. It's why I like it better than super serious driving sims, at the moment.

I have to say, I'm disappointed that the expired spotlight events don't stick around afterwards. I understand having a defined period for the leaderboard, but removing them completely just punishes anyone who is only getting into the game now. They have less medals available to them, and they're missing out on fun content that's already there but is arbitrarily locked.

I thought this lesson had been learned in the early days of the GT5 seasonals, when they were also removing the expired seasonals for no particularly good reason.

Same. It does leave a bad taste in my mouth, really, because it seems like a blatant attempt to incentivize micro transactions to unlock cars. Granted, personally, I unlocked stuff so fast I'd never consider spending a dime on the game, but this sure feels like T10/MS (I'm guessing the latter rather than the former) don't want people to unlock stuff too quickly.

And while I'm nagging, might also point out that I really, really want some sort of checkbox to toggle mixing road cars and race cars in free play. Sometimes, I just want to have a touring car race and seeing an Aventador pulling into first place thanks to it's power and AWD only to get slaughtered on every single breaking point and corner is kinda jarring. On the flipside, at times, I might want bring out my Z06 and not compete with friggin' WTCC Civics.
