Hold on... they release a cutdown version for PC. Will they ever release a full version or is the PC user forever the poor cousin?

So basically it looks like a "2nd tier" customer thing. Windows 10 is a poor cousin to the Xbox.

100% committed

Release a cut down version so as not to jeopardise the Xbox One.

Come on son.
It is free! This is a first 'dipping the toes in the water', if it works out I'm sure we will see fully fledged releases in the future. I also hope that because it's a cut down version we will see the extra power of a PC put to full use.

At the very least you'll be able to fire up your big power i7 gaming pcs with the high end video cards and see how Forza runs without limits....

Other than higher resolution and AA don't expect some big improvements. At least the screenshot provided doesn't suggest any, still static lighting, still crappy low res reflections, etc. And keeping in mind that it runs at 1080p 60fps on X1's underpowered hardware I think people will see great performance even on modest setups. It's gonna be a piece of cake for any serious hardware though.

I wonder if it will include Porsche. Hopefully it works with G27. Can play it the way it's meant to be played for free. 👍

I'm going to give it a go on my £20 tablet and see if it is runs and is playable on it once it comes out.

So its Free to play

Ive not played forza since Forza 3 and i played that for around 30 minutes so im new to the franchise.

But this, this is just silly, Forza 6 has a lot of fantastic reviews, pc has a lot of racing games but no triple A behemoths, Assetto corsa gets bought up but that is way smaller.

What bugs me is that this is a perfectly good game as it is, it would get a lot of sales on pc because its Forza, a lot of xbox players coming to pc want a forza replacement and whats better then forza itself.

Little is known and it might not be pay to win, it might be less grindy then Forza 5, i cant tell yet but free to play seems like an extremely bad move.

Very disappointed microsoft.

Oh, the horror! The drama! How can this be!

Let's wait and see eh? ;)
the main issue i see that if its not buy to play on pc we just extort microsoft to get low prices in sales. and of course its microsoft being silly and actually attempting to rival steam which is just a silly thing to do. Why are they so dead set on taking away the openness of this platform.

Its a soft low impact approach. Like right, they want you to buy Forza full on xbox as that's what their solid revenue stream is.

But they want to test the waters with Forza Apex.

If it does bad, no biggie, we always got Xbox. And its possible it will bomb. Remember GFWL?

If it goes real well, we will look into making more Forza content on Win10 App store.

Its been speculated that perhaps Microsoft would love to move to a complete Steam model. They do the software, you run it on whatever machine. God knows Microsoft lose money on the XBox hardware.

Why should PC get a full console exclusive game that sells consoles? Right decision.
Microsoft are trying to fuse the xbox and win10 into a single entity. Considering PC has more revenue then well everything it makes sense, there is a lot of money that is getting left on the table. there is also the remote play gubbins which allows you to stream win10 stuff to the xbox

Each FM game sells less than the last. With FM 6 being the lowest-selling in the series.

I saw a PC version coming from a mile away, and this f2p version feels like they are testing the water.

Universal apps are very restricted :grumpy: 👎 .

One of the many restrictions is:

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ee417014(v=vs.85).aspx

i.e. input is limited to Xinput controllers. No common wheels.
I haven't used something like following before so wonder if it just makes a wheel behave like a controller rather than a wheel. Hopefully opening it up to DirectInput is on plans Microsoft have to improve. They also have Windows.Gaming.Input API now.

The only info on Forza 6 sales we have is that it sold more than 1 mil from MS itself. The in game leaderboards show numbers closer to 2 mil, for a simulation game that's pretty good. But extra sales are extra sales.

I'm really hoping it isn't just FM6 with high resolution textures and there's actually improvement shown in this over it's console brethren such as photo mode limitations (height, limited interior viewing angle, static car location in home space when in photo mode versus demo mode, etc.), maybe some dynamic weather maybe hopefully?, dynamic time instead of a fixed time for a track.
