While so far nobody (that I know of) has managed to access X1-era games' 3d assets, I think it's safe to assume from observation that they work roughly in the same, although I'm also pretty sure there are no specific Forzavista models and the LOD0s feature all the necessary details.

I haven been informed in the past that there are Forzavista-specific models, as these have extra animations for opening doors, accessing engine bays, roof conversions etc.. It's one reason why you can't drive "with the top down", the driveable models don't support it outside of a few very specific examples (usually via Aero upgrades).

Yeah, but in the FH3 debug version it was possible to run the Forzavista animations while in Photomode. This points to Forzavista using the same (non-driveable) LOD0 models used in the Homespace and Photomode rather than specific Autovista models (as was the case for FM4, where the difference between some cars, like the Peugeot 908, between Homespace and Autovista was jarring).

But I reckon the guys who've actually toyed around with the FH3 debug, like @TheAdmiester and @milkmen, must know how the Forzavista-in-free-roam thing works far better than me. And of course, this is a purely academical distinction - gameplay still uses LOD1 (or whatever they're called) models - which means no convertible convertibles for us (for now).

https://www.forzamotorsport.net/en-us/news/fh3_hoonigan_car_pack

  • Hoonigan Car packs are coming to both Forza Horizon 3 and Forza Motorsport 7
  • Players who pre-order Forza Motorsport 7 will get both packs for free.

Code:
1965 Hoonigan Ford "Hoonicorn" Mustang
1955 Hoonigan Chevrolet Bel Air
1972 Hoonigan Chevrolet “Napalm Nova”
1978 Hoonigan Ford Escort RS1800
1992 Hoonigan Mazda RX-7 Twerkstallion
2003 Hoonigan Holden Commodore Ute
1991 Hoonigan Rauh-Welt Begriff Porsche 911 Turbo

BLAM! CALLED IT! Well... Kind of. Didn't expect them to release FM7's preorder bonus for FH3 before launch. Although it makes sense, I guess? Give something to whet people's appetites for tire burning before their new game ships?

One thing to note. FH3 does not get the Holden and gets the '79 K-5 Blazer instead, FM7 does not get the Blazer.

Okay, I'm not getting the Hoonigan car pack for FH3 if I can just drive them in Forza Motorsport 7. I'm actually excited to drive the RWB Porsche 911 and Holden Commodore Ute. I've wanted to see an actual 964 Porsche 911 for a while and not one you make by modifying a 930. It's been a while since I've seen an early 2000s Commodore in a racing game, I last saw one in Gran Turismo 6.

EDIT: Oh, I would be getting the pack anyway if I preorder FM7. Whoops.

On the other hand, the Holden's a dedicated drift car, and the Blazer's an offroader... Ugh. I guess releasing an 8-car pack would've been too weird for T10?

Well if they would want to give each franchise a unique car then they could have used for example the Chevy for FM7 and the Blazer for FH3, IMO a drift car makes equally as much sense in FH3 as an offroad vehicle. Actually this entire Hoonigan thing has FH all over it if you ask me.

The Holden could easily end up a Forzathon car.

Hmmm perhaps, let's hope so. Here is a pic of that ute btw :

I have no interest in the Hoonigan content and I don't even know what it's about. However, that Porsche 964 Turbo must have a street version counterpart coming to FM7, right?

How likely do you think it is that we'll see the new Alfa Giulia QV, Abarth 124 Spider and the M5 E60?

I've been waiting for the Giulia Quad to show up in a good racing game. AC announced that it was going to add to the game some time ago. Still haven't gotten an update on that. Hopefully it shows up at launch in FM7.

That's damn good news!!!

Not necessarily, the article reads like these cars were licensed separately from Hoonigan and not the manufacturers themselves.

If this helps clarify:-

Forza's LODs range from 5 (PS1-like quality) to -1 (Autovista). LOD0 is, externally, pretty much identical to the Autovista model which is where I think the confusion is coming from.

Either way, the car's extreme details such as the boot and any enclosed engines are never ever rendered while driving, only in the homespace and Autovista - but other than that LOD0 = LOD-1 externally. Some cars have slightly more detail on their grilles in -1 but I wouldn't really count that.

EDIT: Oh, and the Autovista animations work on any LOD, but they only make sense on LOD-1, because if for instance you open the bonnet on an LOD0 model, you'll only see the blackened area or sometimes an engine texture on a flat plane.

According to Badned the Hoonigan pack is not the day one pack, so if you have pre-ordered the digital ultimate version you will end up with 3 car packs at launch (Day 1, Hoonigan & VIP).
Don't forget that there may be a Car Pass exclusive car like there was with FH2 (Noble M600 I believe?).

Considering how weak the pre-order bonuses for a lot of top-tier games have gotten lately, that's a pretty darn good value overall.

Indeed, the second line of this picture is the Hoonigan pack most likely. Note that it was initially not in the standard edition, but they changed this picture recently.

Wait. Does that mean that overall, LOD1 is more detailed than LOD0 now? Ah, T10 - confusing even where nobody is (supposed to be) treading.

Anyways, thanks for the clarification. 👍

LOD1 is slightly less than LOD0 in the way you would expect.

Essentially:
- LOD-1 = Autovista (most detailed)

- LOD0 = Player car in-game/photomode (PC max settings) (Essentially Autovista without the modelled internals)

- LOD1 = Player car in-game/photomode (Xbox One and PC's Xbox-equivalent settings) (nearby AI cars on PC max settings)

- LOD2 = Nearby AI cars (And possibly the player car on ultra low PC settings)

- LOD3 = Distant AI cars

- LOD4 = Very distant AI cars

- LOD5 = Furthest away AI cars (ie. close to despawning) (least detailed), also used for car reflections on wet road

Hope that isn't too complicated.

I'll post a picture example later, I'll probably use some kind of curvy car since that highlights the detail changes.

From this, I think we'll have 4 more weeks of reveals, with these themes

Next week (15th Aug) - Euro (excluding british)

- Probably similar to last week. Mostly returning cars from FM6/FH3, with a few FM4 cars returning. No new to Forza cars

Week of the 22nd - German (Gamescom)

- Since they'll be trying to hype for gamescom, I expect maybe a couple of new to Forza cars here and a few FM4 returns. Otherwise largely similar to FM6/FH3. Also look for the VIP/Day One Car Pack contents to drop either in this reveal or at Gamescom.

Week of the 29th - Race Cars

- A lot of new to forza stuff here since the V8SC, Formula E, NASCAR etc all need to be updated. Hopefully we see an some new GT3/GTE cars, LMP1, Group 5 and even a new race series (DTM/Super GT..highly unlikely but a man can dream) I expect T10 to go all out for this reveal, potentially even split it in to two weeks.

Week of the 5th (Sept) - British, Aussie + Any other leftovers.

- Final reveal. I expect a lot of miscellaneous cars with a very loose theme. Probably a few new to forza cars like FM6's last reveal, maybe 7/8 or so. This week will be accompanied by a "game has gone gold announcement" and hopefully a huge picture of all the cars in the game like FH3/FM6
