And the number 19 is the number of protons (which is also the same number of electrons). 39.0983 is the atomic mass which is the mass of all the protons, neutrons and electrons added together, (19 protons, 20 neutrons and 19 electrons). Reactivity is due to the number of free /missing electrons in the outer shell.

We also learn that in the 8th grade... unfortunately that was 17 years ago for me (yet I still recognized immediately what Lancer's avatar was and what it meant)
