My PS3 has been running a full week now - no issues. B-Spec'd my way up to LVL 35. Now the last bit to 40 will take a lot longer since so much more XP is required.

Does this work on the indy 500?

EDIT: *facepalm* Obviously not due to running out of fuel/tires.

Actually it does kind of work, here is my setup and the details.

I used a rapid fire controller

$5 plastic handi-clamp from Home Depot

This clamp fits just over the controller to hold the X button down, the clamp also allows you to quickly remove it and reapply it.

For the Indy enduro race if you use the X1 like I did you burn through fuel faster then if you drive. You can get about 27 laps but only 20 laps from the auto drive method.

So what I did was drive the race myself until the first pit stop, this will be around lap 27 and you will be about 5 laps ahead of 2nd place. Then during the the first pit I unplug my wheel and plug in the "modded" controller. Now you can let the controller drive for the next 20 laps. You will have enough of a lead to just set a timer for 15min and use the D pad to go into the pits, just using the D pad allows you to keep the perfect analog stick position and then let it auto drive again once the pit is done.

The race takes about 2.5hrs this way, you get more XP this way but it not nearly as hands off as doing it in the Dream race. I usually do the enduro if I am working on my computer anyways and just stop to pit every 15min, but I do the Dream race say over night when I am sleeping :)

You don't want to know my during the day at work setup....it's epic!!!!

So has anyone calculated how many races it will take of grinding Indy to get from level 35 to 40?
A quick calc, 2216 races at 7.75 minutes/race and it's about 12 days. Leveling up from 35 to 40 in B spec using Lemans is 11 days.

Fully hands of 100% working does NOT work with the Formula GT...tried it but it is not guaranteed succes so stick with the X1.

Funny enough I had 20 million again somewhere last night while I was in deep coma, must have wasted 5 million or so lol :P

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

Kaz should take a long, hard look at threads like this and feel utterly embarrassed. It's pathetic that players have to resort to such methods just to get through the game, because actually engaging in the 'racing' itself is mind-numbingly boring.

Bad form 👎

all races should be like the 1st 2 sets of seasonals. they where so challenging that it was fun. now i just use this and switch to my 2nd controller if i want to race (so i don't have to remove all the tape i put on it)

Funny stuff! In most games guys throw a fit when they catch someone wall riding. Here it's a good idea. Maybe PD should pay more for the races. Or charge less for the cars and upgrades.

I have got it going with for a few days now but every now and then i end up in the wall. i think that may have something to do with the AI being in a stupid spot and my x1 now has 70,000km. In that time its had about 3 oil changes and is now pushing out 1300hp. Just gets to 390 on the straight so i am sure a rebuild would help a lot.

Mm I refresh its oil quite often really and also do a engine and body overhaul now and then. Money to spare now anyway. Currently 1555 Bhp on the car.

Couldn't agree more, they ffing failed HARD on this one. To me its like a badly done MMO thing or something...pathetic !
And where is the ffing patches that sorts stuff out the whole g.da mn community is whining about ?....

We still waiting for anything good to happen besides the stupid rushed season events which are just a temp solution...at least they think it is...

This is great... I'm like my own Bob now! Now I know why Bob usually drives so badly...While driving he just puts a rubber band on the steering wheel and takes nap like me!:sly:

Fully approve! Great stuff!

wrt the leveling up in this game and PD's design, a bit of leveling up is fine, but when the going is so slow you're keeping your customer from enjoying content you worked so hard to create!

First, thanks to the O.P. for an awesome idea! I flat refuse to do the same 24 Hour Race 4 more times (once for each 24 Hour Race is enough IMO), just to do one last one after that 👎 I came up with this alternative way:

Buy some rubber bands, find a small round pebble (I got an Altoid-yes the breath mint :P), scotch tape and this Datel PS3 Rapid Fire Controller from GameStop, it has a battery pack, but you can just use the usb cable instead:

Run the Dream Car Championship with this setup:

Turn off the vibration, Make the 'X' button being the only button with rapid fire (press that odd button on the left while pressing 'X' to make it rapid fire). This controller has a flat face and the buttons push down very easily, make it surprisingly easy. I only need one rubber band but did 2 so it didn't move around. I wrapped the Altoid in a cough drop wrapper and taped it closed so it wouldn't affect the controller, here's a pic of what I'm doing:

Here are some math notes I made so you can estimate how long it will take for you (refer to the XP Required For Each Level Thread for accurate numbers).

Level 37 With Approx. 1,235,000 XP Points

- 3,389,470 XP Points Needed To Reach Level 38

- 5,919,322 XP Points Needed To Reach Level 39

- 7,576,732 XP Points Needed To Reach Level 40

= 16,885,524

/ 9,819 Points Per Dream Car Championship Race 1 At Indy Speedway

= 1,720 Races Required

Each Race Takes 7:40 On Average

Race About 7.75 Per Hour

Equals 222 Hours To Get To Level 40

That Makes A Total Of Approx. 9.25 Days To Reach Level 40

Started At 5:30PM On 1/14/10

I will Stop The Race Once A Day To Buy Lots Of Cars, Save And Backup The Save

Should End On 1/24/10

Ingenious methods. I think ill use my g25 unplugged from power and my g15 keyboard.
I just need an X2010 now.

Whats the quickest way to obtain one?

Fun game? Level 40 sounds like work, I play for fun. I'm level 33 ASpec through playing normally and will eventually get to level 40, in a year or two, it's a long term goal.

Kudos to you guys for the smarts and dedication it takes to get to 40 like this, I just hope it doesn't burn you out and you lose interest in the game.

You may be able to find one for trade in the Marketplace thread. Otherwise, the quickest (with the most work for you) would be to reach A-Spec 30 and bronze the 3 X2010 Special Events.

Actually I'm doing this to get Sim Mode done so I can move on and concentrate on having fun in the WRS and do some Race Series' 👍 I kind of got burned out with GT4, but then again I probably never played any other game half as much as I played that (well, maybe GT3, but still not near as much). This way I can get back to racing cause I want to, not racing what I have to.

do you really not understand why the game is made this way ? the leveling up strategy from sony is that if you play the game normaly you will reach level 40 in about 8 years, wich would be just when gt6 is released ;)

No, GT6 will be DUE to be released in about 8 years. It will actually be released another 4-5 years after that. :sly:

Hehe cheers m8, for me being some sort of a completionist
I just want to get it all done asap. Just have to :P
Once it is out of the way I'll just focus more on the fun online stuff and just racing cars.

But being lvl 36.5 in A-Spec and 30 in B-spec it is gonna be a long run still

Have it on auto grind mode at the moment, started 9 hours ago and I wont be home for another 5 so should have 20 million and some exp gained when I have a look :P

( and ye will save back it up directly lol )

I was chuffed to read this, fired up aspec to realise I had given up on it around level 20 lol. Really some of the dullest races to be had are offline. I have been doing bspec merely to get money. I couldnt care about levels in the slightest.

Looks like I now have to grind in aspec manually to up my level before I can do the above, doh!

So for the past hour I have been doing my new "Semi Automatic" A-Spec grinding,
1. Take out your X1
2. Enter a race
3. Hold the gas
4. Browse the web
5. Glance over at the screen at random to recover from spin
6. Browse the web
7. Repeat 5 upwords.

zzzz

Looks good beung 👍 I don't own a clamp small enough so I had to improvise, hehe.

I did use an elastic to hold the x button down but it took so much work to get it set back up after I had to actually us it to navigate the menu for oil changes and and stuff. The clamp was $5 at home depot, it's quick release and quick locking made it perfect for this :)
