As vice president of our PTO, I have to say that we do offer an option for parents to just donate cash instead of participate in fundraisers. We actually make more money per kid that way. We don't have to buy the stuff the kid would be selling first, but the money we get donated is equal to what we charge when selling stuff, so we get the money without the initial cost.

My daughter gets caught up in the T-shirt hype each year, for some reason...if it involves a "walk" we do it, but the rest (mail-order begging) is just nuisance territory.
