So if i play GT5 everyday for 5hrs per day, for a year (which i might) In a year I'll need a new belt?

Where in Fanatec's post is there any indication that the unit needed a new belt?

Either way, why do people feel that if they spend $180 on a complex piece of engineering and design it should last until the end of time? Even if it only lasts 2000 hours, you're still paying just 9 cents per hour. Cruising on the highway costs $6 an hour in gas alone. Put things in perspective.

Because I've had my DFGT for 2 years and it still works fine, I'd expect about 4-5 yrs from a more expensive unit.

So if you got 200 thousand miles out of a Camry you'd expect 400-500 thousand miles out of a 335i?

I pick those cars because Toyota, like Logitech, sets an the industry standard for reliability and the 335i is proportionally more expensive. But you can substitute any driver's car you like for the BMW. They'll all be more expensive and way better to drive, but that doesn't mean they are expected to be invincible.

👎 right back at you!

You didn't watch the youtube film I posted, didn't you now? ;)

Wow so that's you in that video. No? Try some reading comprehension.

It's clear you should leave conversations about hardware to those that know about hardware.

kikie:
I just wanted to say that gears are stronger than belts, that's all. Unless you make a carbon fibre belt and I don't think that Fanatec uses these materials for making their belts.

Rotard12a:
Not to be contradictory or contentious, but you mentioned carbon fiber and I remembered a snippet I read from a Fanatec FAQ, so I took the opportunity to find and share it for all :

"Can the belts be stretched?
We use high-end belts made in Europe. The manufacturer is www.gates.com which is a well know supplier for medical and automotive applications. The belts are made with carbon fibre and this material does not stretch at all."

@ibuycheap
Kikie already apologized so there is no need to let him know again that he had wrong assumptions ;)

I learned that some people have these concerns and this tells me how to communicate better. So thanks for that, kikie.

I hope for your sake that your attitude will change for the better because if you keep posting like that, you are going to accumulate a lot of warnings and maybe even infraction.

Thats an interesting way to look at it, but I chose to get a fanatec, partly for the superior parts, and quality. Its for these reasons I expect it to last longer than a budget DFGT.

I'm beginning my shopping/research journey. Currently using a
G25 and I'm hoping my wife will get me either a GT3rs v2 CSP or a G27. When I started reading this thread, the belt issue had not even crossed my mind.

@Fanatec, Thomas when you guys were offering beta testing a couple of years ago, I applied. We corresponded a little, I was having problems accessing a certain page, our communication stopped. As a result, I missed out on that opportunity. With that screw up in mind, if I buy a wheel from you and the belt(s) fail in 2-5 years, what will happen? Will I get lost in the shuffle and emails go unanswered for a couple of years?

Logitech had great service. They won't hesitate to send out a new mouse/keyboard duo if something fails. You're asking me to spend $350 for your product. What sort of support should I expect? How about compatibility with GT5? That will be my primary game. What about technical support? If I'm having a problem how much down time should I expect? 24 hour service?

Adjustments: Does all of the adjustability "complicate" things? My biggest complaint about GRID is that despite all of the Adjustments the game has, NOTHING can make it feel right. It doesn't natural like GT5p and my G25, which really has no adjustablility.

I like that your wheel is slightly larger. Your optional pedals get rave reviews. Having buttons at my finger tips is something I miss about the DFP. Smoothness looks to be a good attribute about your wheels. The G25 doesnt feel "real" on bumpy surfaces like Nurburgring or LeSarthe. But in Daytona, entering turn 1 if you turn in just right I can feel the subtle washboard bumps.

Then there is the question: is there a new wheel coming out shortly after GT5 launches in 10 days?!? I hope you understand that I want to buy the right wheel, one that I won't have to worry about for 3+
years.

I'm not Fanatec but lots of questions there Dave, I think its impossible for anyone Fanatec or Logitech to give an absolute guarantee (though Fantatec do have a 2 year warranty on their wheels not sure if Logitech do but suspect it is just one year).

You will no doubt find folks in either group of customers who have either had a nightmare or the the complete opposite with products from either company. I am in the faultless Fanatec group myself.

I hope (and dare I say after my first year of ownership) and now expect to get many years of enjoyment from my Turbo S wheel which I believe is the equal of either of the wheels you are considering.

I guess at the end of the day it it is comes down to a leap of faith in the end if every parameter of your decision is equal between the wheels.

Well talking about how long things last. I've got a great example. Actually two.

Mom had a range rover HSE '04... lastest 19000km before we had to give it back (air suspension, gearbox, ac) constantly failed to operate!

Dad still has a '00 Mercedes E320 with nearly 300k km on it, and so far only one Xenon headlamp died... thats it! nothing else...

I had my G25 now for 3 years! Actually i have it since the day the GT5 P / PS3 bundle came out! bought the G25 the day after.... and im still using it now, i modded it (brake and gas pedal , added a race steering wheel ) and no problems at all! Nothing.

What im trying to say is, you need to have luck that your product doesnt have any productions faults. Im sure there are owners of Merc E 320's that have major problems... and some RR owners which have nearly none....

On another hand, i used to have an '05 altima, and one of my friends too. His altima has faults every couple of months... mine didnt (only AC once but thats because we are in Dubai ;) ) 👍

Chris

Hi, Logitech have 2yr warranty as well. Might get a small period of grace after that, but by the looks you won't get spares etc, so its bin it, if it breaks then(unless you get bits off another broken wheel, thats on sale cheap etc).
Not many companies will tell you when a new product is comimg out, exactly anyway. It can knack up themselves or shops who buy off them, sales of exsisting products. Also give rivals, maybe useful info etc. If they did & lost money, someone would have to pay, who ? you can easily guess.

Cheers BOB

Some have suggested using a G27 with the Fanatec Clubsport pedals. Does it work with PS3? Again, GT5 will be my primary use.

Well, Mrs Stalker has yanked the purse strings for large pre Christmas purchases. I may have to wait until January for an upgrade :(

Recently sold my G27 & Playseat Evo combo but regretting it now that GT5 actually has a confirmed date. I'm hoping the woman's reading this b/c I want a new wheel now, hehe!

Why would you do that?

It isn't like GT5 wasn't going to be coming out.

Sold it few months ago b/c got sick & tired of the delays (this was before they had an exact date). I don't regret selling the Playseat Evo (comfy seat but wheel mount bracket in between legs kinda bothered me) however I do regret selling the G27. I broke even (finally eBay was good to me, LOL) b/c the Playseat was the suppose limited edition Forza Motorsport red/black 2-tone seat combo. I think I want an Obutto or Rinoseat next & either a G27 again (loved the shifter paddles!) or a PWTS with CSP (wanna try something new).
