For me, it's the V8's that are the biggest problem. Others are a bit off too but, they aren't as bad as some of the Big V8's. Will be putting a comparison video together later of the SLS GT3, Z4 GT3, GTR GT500, HSV GT500, and SC430 GT500.

The only good exhausts on that car is stock and racing one. The 15th Aniversery one comes stock with sport exhaust.

Same for the Audi RS4, semi race got a very nice V6 noise, but only in the higher revs...midrange is

It's the same old story as it was since GT2, in that regard.

It's not perfect by any means, but I would continue to encourage people to try all the exhausts and use the one that sounds best to each individual player.

Obviously, with the volume differences introduced to the exhausts in GT5, that poses another problem (i.e. of mixing and balance against other sounds / other cars), and is why I think we should just be able to choose the sound we want.

It would be great if we could sample exhaust sounds when in the Tuning menu like we can sample paint chips instantly. Would save a lot of unnecessary button pushing and test driving.

Does the R8 sound at least different than in GT5? I want to know if I should even bother buying it because I couldn´t stand that annoying sound

One annoying thing about sounds is that when the tires screach its mutes my engine sound, Worse still is when im next to another car it drowns out the sound of my car and i cant hear when to shift gear, This screwed me up a lot in league racing in gt5, PD wouldnt be aware of this though as they dont play their own game.

Sounds like a dynamic range issue. Get a louder exhaust (stock < sports < semi-race < race), or change the dynamic range setting in the game to something other than "Living Room". If that still doesn't work, then it might be your listening environment is too noisy, your speakers can't handle quiet sounds and loud sounds together or something else entirely. Try headphones as a diagnostic, and consider using them if it improves things.

If you're still struggling, you're better off using an external compressor (e.g. on your receiver, or in your TV - maybe - check their manuals) and setting the game to "large theatre", then adjusting all the volumes to suit (music and menu sounds up to 120, racing effects down to about 80, replay a bit higher, all depending).

Some people are having sounds drop in and out in the game, like the sound engine is fighting for resources and can only play so many sources at once. I've not personally heard that, though.

Are you guys kidding me the sounds havent been improved at all on GT6 from GT5!!!!!!!OMG yes I have to admit I love GT5 and have had great times online but this gen has been a lot of disappointment.I know Kaz and his team can at least improve the sound, PD cant just let things like this go its not the late 90s anymore I hope PD isnt getting too comfortable, other games that have used Gran Turismo as a benchmark are slowly pulling away on PD.I played Forza 5 for about an hour and a half the other day and was quite impressed but I would never abandon GT and my PS but I also have been hesitant to pick up my copy of GT6 which I haven't yet, rewind about 3 years ago I was first in line at my local Gamestop to pick up GT5.We want the crackle of european v8s,the burbel of American V8s,the deep trumpetey buzz of the inline 6,the melody of the modern v6,the exotic screaming F1-bred song of the v10 and v12 engines, the spool of the turbo as you mash the pedal awaiting peak boost and hp,the instant response high pitched whine and whistle of a roots or centrifugal supercharger. Come on PD Im just going to be optimistic AGAIN and hope that this will come in an update the sound of the vehicles should be high on the priority list just like physics and dynamics the sound gets the enthusiast heart racing.

You sir are an excellent writer; but you need to split your paragraphs! :)

Yes I agree. But it is very unlikely this game will have huge improvement in sounds. They really need to focus on the sounds for Gran Turismo 7 to make it worthy of being next gen. Otherwise it would be just unacceptable. I was hoping for awesome sounds for this game but I guess it didn't happen.

Some cars sounds pretty good (like the murcielago lambo or the stock ford gt 60') but some cars have the SAME sound of gt5 like the tom's supra 97' or the ferrari 458.

Is it really that hard to have decent sounding cars?I mean there are people who play games like Rfactor,Live For Speed and Test drive unlimited that are making there own car sounds, and thats just one person,I just don't understand PD's thought process when they begin the process of putting in the sounds for the cars.

The samples are there. If you listen carefully you can hear a pretty decent exhaust note coming from a lot of the cars. But the game seems to assume you have your head jammed into the engine bay the whole time. So the sound of the belts, air intake, turbo etc are balanced way to loud. That's why you get that vacuum cleaner sound.

It seems like something that could be tweaked easily, but hasn't.

It is baffling, especially considering a game like rFactor, a title that came out in 2005, has infinitly better engine sound quality compared to GT 6:

It does seem like the same sound engine from GT3 is still being used in 6.

Even games on current Phones and Tablets Sound more decent than GT6. It's not only the samples which are usually wrong. It's also the way the Sound works. You have no sign of clutch engaging. The gear Change happens withing light Speed. You can even see it's not even matching the shifting Animation of the Driver he is too slow... which would be real! But the game doesnt do that. Then you have Turbo sounds which are all the same on everycar, the BOV sounds are the same. And it just seems like the samples are right in the low RPM's but as soon you ref them they get softwarewise just pitched up from a certain Point. Where a real car strats to get under load and power PD's cars get just pitched to a vaccum cleaner Sound or gas burner or what every
we heard already...

Any other low budged titel does it better. You hear in-takes, different Turbos. Clutch Engagement. Turbo lag. etc

The whole Sound engine is wrong of PD.

sorry for the strange text but I'm on my phone

Yesterday, I was just asking myself a question: Do You know any other game, that is about 10 years old, that sounds worse than GT6?..
Also, there is something to the claim, that SOME cars sound do decent at lower rpm´s.. For exhample i just caught myself, driving the RUF RGT and intentionally shifting early,at about 6000, because it really sounds somewhat decent in that range

It is bad enough that the sounds are pretty lame but even worse that when you upgrade an exhaust the sound stays the same. There is not one car I have upgraded where the sound has changed.

If you were doing it in a race menu, it's glitched. Just like in pre-patched GT5. They copy pasted this over for some reason without checking it AGAIN! Anyway just exit the race screen and re-enter the event again or buy the upgrades outside of the race tuning menu.

Yes, I dont like the way all the cars (?) in GT6 change gears... I remember that the Lexus IS-F actually changed gears the correct way in GT5.. Aaaaaand now, in GT6 it changes gears like every other car (which sound like crap)
I mean why PD???? Why would they change something that is already correct?

The exhaust is generally well balanced now, it used to be much worse. It sounds like you might have a mismatch between your sound configuration and your hardware - e.g. using 5.1 (etc.) output with 2 speakers. Or maybe there's an issue with the multi-channel mix (I use stereo these days, and it's "fine" - actually, GT6 seems to be less flexible on that front than GT5 was, so false detections might hurt more since they can't necessarily be manually corrected).

What hurts more is the lack of intake sound to balance with the whirry engine note and the exhaust sounds, too. Perennial problems such as the E92 M3 and the R8 V8 are classic examples, where the intake note practically defines the cabin noise.

The sound engine is massively different from what it was on PS2, and is what gave hints as to PD's working on the sounds in the background (i.e. what is now the mythical patch). The samples (sound files) are the same, however.

Also, that video, for me, represents everything that's wrong with sampling, but people are used to it by now I suppose. Still, it doesn't mean things can't be done in a completely new way. ;)

I've had a glitch a few times where the top-end sample doesn't load at the beginning of a race, so the engine sound just fades to nothing at around 5000rpm or so (depending on the car). But when it finally loads, you can tell that the missing sample is the same as the lower samples, just pitch-shifted up. But this means the game engine does support the use of more samples, they're just not included. That makes it a little more feasible that these could be added via patch, since it doesn't require a complete overhaul of the sound engine, just the inclusion of more samples of the engines running at high rpm.

It's not just the sounds need to be better but also the gearbox engine. Basically "Torque twist?" needs to be more pronounced especially for manual gearbox cars. I have an example below

And skip to 2:04 and listen to the BMW in red/white how it sounds every time the driver shifts into a newer gear.

I prefer the GT6 sound because it feels connected and feels like it's coming out from the car I'm seeing on the screen.
While the Project Cars sound sounds like it has been recorded from a TV footage and played it to you while you're driving that car.. it doesn't feel connected at all..
