Data from Gran Turismo 5 won't be recognised by Gran Turismo 6, though, and any progress made in the last game in the series will be lost by those making the jump. "For Gran Turismo 5 to Gran Turismo 6 there'll be no real transfer of data," Yamauchi said. "The main reason for that is the GT5 save data has been cracked already, so we can't really confirm the validity of the save data. So my hope is that between GT6 and GT7 we can transfer some of that across."
That sucks, none of the Stealth or Chromeline cars will be transfareable then. Again we normal gamers get punished because of hacking. Thank you guys, really!

Riiight.

Why does it matter if the save data is valid or not? If people want to play the game and go to the effort of hacking GT5 so that they can have extra cars or whatever in GT6, what's the problem exactly?

Taking features out because too many people might enjoy them is the most ridiculous reasoning ever.

I don't get the problem honestly. It's not an MMO, who cares if some people have tons of money or all cars from the get-go?

Oh, great. The faithfuls will love to bring this article to attention when someone makes remarks about the sounds.

Well, I'm now definitely delaying my purchase of GT6 till they patch the sounds.

Don't get your hopes up,looks like we won't be seeing proper sounds before GT7 then.

This has nothing to do with taking out features. They most likely had to change something in the file system, to prevent further hacking, so that the stuff just isn't compatible anymore.

Do you even know what the hacking did? It's not about the amount of cars or cash, it's about cheating possibilities ONLINE and license issues for PD. People even found illegal ways to use the DLC cars.

Anyway, made an extra topic for that.

It kinda does. Those "hacked" save files unlocked some pretty awesome features that I feel should have been in the basic game rather than you having to fiddle around to have some real fun and even risk getting banned.

The only real problem I see is the tweaked cars for online races. Not much different than the X1s running around ruining races. Still, they should easily be able to see who uses the "hacks" and just prevent them from joining online races as a worse case scenario.

They also unlocked cheating online, free DLC and every other kind of TOS breaking. It doesn't matter if it adds some to the game you might like to see.

No, I'm definitely not getting my hopes up. If the sounds don't recieve a major overhaul till then (which I consider to be a very likely scenario), I'll just simply pass.

I saw this coming a mile away when the quote said, "we'll see." I don't want PD to rush this because I want to see if sounds will be close to or even surpass Project CARS and RRRE. To be honest, I'd be fine with Shift 2 Unleashed/NFS Underground 2/NFS Pro Street levels of sound.

For me sound is now a lost chapter. Kaz isn't sure if GT6 will make it to get the new sounds, this means they are not going to be releasing it soon after all. I don't see the point buying the game and getting new sounds for example after a year when I will be already playing a lot less than the beginning. Also let's not forget the initial excitement will be much less thrilling.

Off topic:

I have a feeling things that needed revolutionary changes like AI and career mode were ignored too and they focused on adding tracks, cars and graphical updates.

That seems to be the point, not that I agree with the PR that PD puts out. It's obvious though they are trying to slow down the hype machine that comes along with their games before they perpetuate more hate toward the series due to their lack of concise and functional timeline of development to release. I'm still curious if PD has a Quality Control or even QA management.

I suggest you wait for TGS maybe they have more surprises that will persuade you to buy,but agreed the sounds not changing is indeed a massive let down.

Post-release patch in japanese means 2 years after release.
That was not the case with GT5
I have a feeling that if GT6 launches like GT5 (which is pretty much confirmed) nothing is going to be improved afterwards.
You and your feelings...
GT5 and GT5 2.13 aren't really all that different in the core gameplay (graphics, physics, sounds)
Patching graphics is extremely unusual, physics got noticeably patched multiple times. Sounds didn't happen, yes, but many other things did.

You can't really do much through patching.
Nope your wrong, you can change nearly the entire game depending on how you implemented the patching mechanism.

I'm not getting GT6 if this is how it's going to be
Fine

Actually it is an excuse, although I don't say the excuse itself isn't reasonable. It surely is possible to integrate an addtional GT5 savegame reader feature:
Simply take the car infos from the GT5 save and do only accept valid ones checked via a whitelist without abnormalities. Then regenerate the cars as new models in GT6 and recalculate the modifications and general performance values based, and only based, on GT6s system. Most likely with exclusion of DLC cars and certain other special cars. Although in that case another feature which checks if DLC got downloaded on that certain account... etc.

Could've been done, was seen as unnecessarity. P/E ratio expected as being too low.

At this point and with Kaz's statement regarding the sounds, unfortunately there really is nothing that would persuade me to buy the game. Sure, there are things that might surprise me from TGS and I'll probably give them a thumbs up or two, but sounds have been one of my biggest gripes with the GT5 - which I only accepted beacuse of the long wait that we had to endure. The little or no improvments with GT6 are, in my opinion, simply inexcusable.

I just don't care for the awaited ''breakthrough'', at all. I'd much rather see PD improving/re-doing their sound samples for the vanilla game and then moving on to work on their new sound system - possibly for the next game.

Can't fault your argument there it is a letdown as I said but I guess it was sort of expected.

Yes, follow the money, it leads to most answers. Validating game saves can be done, but it will cost programming time and money. Other alternatives include porting over only special release or DLC cars and resetting them to stock. Could reset all cars to stock as well. Could be done in lots of ways but obviously the expense is too great for PD. 👎

"There's still hope that improved audio will be patched in at a later date. "There's a good possibility that we might do this," Yamauchi said when pressed"

Seeing as how I believe GT7 will be out at Christmas 2015, I'll expect the new sounds then. One thing to remember that no one seems to mention is, we are all anxiously awaiting this new sound engine as some kind of revolution in sound technology. Given Kaz's track record on his "too perfect" engine sounds so far, why do we assume this sound breakthrough will be anything close to realistic?

PD is starting to look more and more pathetic as the years go on... it's becoming quite obvious that the game sells on name alone. Hopefully PD will surprise me at TGS but at this point I highly doubt it.

GT is being totally outclassed and belongs in the past.

Looks like Sony agrees and gave the job of launch title driving game to Evolution.
PD are stuck in current gen where they still seem out of their depth.

Kaz's answer is that of an uncertain 5 yr old. "It may or may not make it." Dude, you're a developer. Make it happen.

PD = mediocre game developer 👎

At least other franchises that sell on their name, like FIFA or Madden, actually make 1 game a year and they actually change things from year to year...

At least Sony is able to see this, Kaz seems very comfortable releasing unfinished games nowadays. I hope Sony makes some changes because this is laughable.

Sure, if you think so ("better" may as well be undefined), but DriveClub's sounds more like the real thing to my ears, which perhaps isn't the same kind of comparison.
The "bug" is just that the reverb isn't set to something that sounds like the outdoors - that's very easily tweaked. However, it's actually a fairly massive problem with real-time audio (acoustics of large "open" spaces, that is).

At least it needs more bass :

Nice to see Kaz talking about sounds on the main page post 👍

lol Please... I understand why people are criticising PD as even I have for years now, but the EA reference is terrible. EA releases the same game every damn year with extremely minimal changes, yet they still charge full price. How that is even allowed I don't understand.

PD at least takes a long amount of time to develop their games. I just wish they weren't so far behind in the industry with an extreme lack of direction. Certain things they do are very high quality but others are nowhere near acceptable. As I've said before, the simulation aspect of GT is fantastic. It's the overall package that is extremely lacking.

You call PD a Mediocre developer and then mention those two titles?

Sorry but if there was ever an actual example of mediocre, PD is nowhere near it with the likes of EA still around pumping out rehashes on a yearly basis.
