GLI is garbage... trading it in about 3 weeks...

I'm surprised to see so many people on this forum liking the thought of a mustang. I hate mustangs. Especially that body style. Fast in a straight line, maybe, but horrible gas mileage, not fun around corners, and it's just another mustang to join the 500 that I see on any given road on any given day. You could get a used sti or evo for 20 grand. Much more fun, much more room, faster, better gas mileage, idk. I just don't see the appeal of a mustang in this situation.

Edit: I actually don't mind that particular gen mustang, I misread it the first time. That said, however, the new ones look SOO much better in my opinion, I don't think I could spend money on anything less than the current gen.

Edit #2: You could get a used M3 for that price too. Or a newer 3 series.

Have you ever driven a Mustang? :scared:

What's ironic? That I don't drive a rumbling V8? Do I care that a 2011 V6 Mustang can beat a 2009 V8? No, because a 2011 V8 will beat a 2011 V6. This is what happens as time progresses you know. And I do plan on stuffing an LS3 in my car someday, so whatever is ironic right now, won't be.

the word Mustang invokes feelings of speed and power. Muscle. V8. It just makes complete sense. V6 Stangs have and always will be sold primarily to women.

That stopped in 2011, the primary buyer of the 2011 V6 Mustang was men in their mid 20's. That is at least what's happening at 3 of our local Ford dealers. Plus, the V6 Mustang is quite competent enough during 2005-2010 for some good fun, especially in 5spd manual trim. 0-60 for the manual in the mid 6s range and upper 6s range for the automatic. That wasn't bad for the price to get all the good looks with something that does perform well enough to have some tail-happy fun. That generation V6 Mustang did exactly what it is supposed to do, all the style and moderate performance for an incredibly low price. I don't see a problem here.

You've obviously never driven a Mustang and no nothing about the history either. Having a V8 doesn't always equal a better car. The SVO Mustang is a prime example as is the Turbo GTA Trans-Am of the 80's.

Oh, and so you know MX-5's were also primarily sold to women. You yourself drive a more hairdresser's car than the V6 Mustang. Ironic isn't it?

Have you ever driven a Mustang? :scared:

I vote no.

you know what's funny is that you're wrong. Miatas were/are sold primarily to men. At least the first generation was, as something like 5-10% of them came with automatic transmissions. How many Mustangs are sold with auto trans? Hmmmmm....

And I never said V8 = better car. I said for a pony/muscle car, V8 is the only way to go. If I'm considering a V6 Mustang, I'm definitely not going to buy that V6 Mustang and am just using it as a baseline until I find something better, as I'd probably choose a Genesis 2.0T over it or something similar.

Explain how its fat and cheap? Its the same K-series motor with a different displacement and other parts. Its ridiculous that it only gained 4hp with a 400cc increase, but it should still have potential (after a head swap to run a real header :().
The extra displacement was used to increase torque, which it did considerably. The redline was lowered and the gears were probably lengthened - I don't expect the car to be any quicker than the previous one, but it will be "easier to drive" (as if the old one was weak in traffic?).

With a head swap and flow parts, the bigger engine should perform quite nicely, like an older K24.

So you can swap a Mini trans in five hours?
I can swap a B16's transmission in five hours. Of course, it's not a new car which is designed specifically to cost an arm and a leg in maintenance to bolster dealer and manfacturer pocketbooks.

I can swap a B16's transmission in five hours.

I swapped the trans in my Civic in 2-3 hours. That was a stock D16 trans though that had a bad input shaft bearing, I swapped for an EX trans with shorter gearing.

Prove it then. Just sayin'.

^ I don't have to. Whenever you see a Miata, 9 times out of 10 it's a guy driving.

V6 Mustangs are mostly driven by women. And if it's an automatic on top of that, I automatically assume he/she has no interest in cars.

5 out of the 5 MX5s I see driving around town are driven and owned by women. And the guys who occasionally drive them do tend to have their sexuality questioned.

So again, prove your point chief.

stock Miatas ARE womanly, sure. Once you put some competitive coilovers/swaybars/wheels/tires/internals/forced induction, it becomes a beast for men only. So it doesn't matter if more women drive them, because they only drive stock anyway. I'd take a $15,000 modified Miata over any stock vehicle under $50,000.

Find me another car more fun than a FR Miata with 250whp that weighs just 2,100lbs

Can't find the actual demographics online.

Wow, that totally proved your point right? Because 9 out of 10 Miatas on the road are modified.

Now then something interesting... There was a Miata for sale near my school for a few months at a used dealer. Owner of the place had more women look at it than men by far apparently (with more guys being driven off by it being a manual than women as well). The Miatas in my general area are either stock and driven by women or modded and driven by guys (no middle ground that I can see)... Guess which is more common?

The stock ones driven by women.

An FD RX-7 is more fun than a Miata.

An FD RX-7 is better than a Miata? How many FD's do you see? I saw maybe two this entire YEAR. The 13B engine is far from reliable unless you swap in an LSx V8, which by the way would be better off in a Miata due to it being much lighter. FD's are great drift cars, no doubt, but they're not as good as Miatas since they don't have their own race series.

And an S2000 weighs 800lbs heavier than a Miata. Sorry I'd rather have a 240hp Miata than a 240hp S2000. Plus the aftermarket is nonexistant for the S2K compared with the Miata.

Why are we on the topic of Miatas again anyway? I mean I know they're like the greatest gift to the automobile world since the Ford Model T but jeez guys, let's give it a rest.

Because any time any kind of car discussion arises, you chime in with your Miata>world point of view and derail everything.

Do you even know why the miata has its' own series?
Do you realize people facepalm every time you defend your car?

Because it's the best-selling sports car in the world, ever? Because there were almost 1,000,000 produced? Because they're FR? Cheap to buy and maintain? The lightest rear-drive car besides the 10x more expensive Elise/Exige? I fail to see how the Miata could possibly be hated by anyone except for homophobes.

The Miata is a great car, yes. But it's not relevant in every discussion. Even less relevant is this frankly stupid argument about it being a girl's car. The problem people have isn't your car, nor your enthusiasm for it, it's how often you inject it into a discussion where it isn't needed.

Also, people are going to continue to say it's a girl's car, we don't need a massive argument every time someone brings that joke around.

I see, you have no clue how or why the series started.

Words can't describe how big of an idiot you are.
Not only is it not really related to what I said but you do this every time. Can't come up with an acceptable response so you resort to bashing and name calling.

If I hated Miatas it would be because fitftw.

Edit: However since the majority of Miata owners around here tend to be women who only care how cute their car is, I can't hold him as the stereotype.

He's probably the worst example of a miata owner but he's no exception. If you own a miata, that is the type of person you are associated with.
Thankfully there are those who have the car for reasons other than to be part of the scene.

No, the problem is that people ALWAYS bring up the "Miata? LOL CHICK CAR LOL YOU LIKE MEN LOL" and frankly, I am absolutely sick of the stereotype. What if I am gay? What if I do like men? So what? Who cares?

And if none of my reasons explain why there's a Spec Miata series, why don't you fill me in on the real reason?

If you bought a Miata as a daily driver, you'd be biased towards every other car on the road as well. Go drive one.

Back on topic, how about an R32 or R33 Skyline?

Omg shut up already about your MX-5. No one cares. You have your opinion and everyone else had theirs. Deal with it. I'd much rather have the RX-7 or S2000 vs the MX-5. I almost got rid of my bias until you came along. And yes, I did drive one recently and was less than impressed, just too slow. My wife's automatic RX-8 is more fun go me. You give the few respectable male owners a bad name. Have a great day! :D

To the original topic creator I feel for you seeing this topic turn where it has. But it is afterall the Internets anyway and petty bickering and arguments were bound to occur.

I love you too bro *kiss* but your wife's automatic RX8 is garbage compared to a stock 5MT Miata, let alone mine. Good day to you.

A grey market, 16 year old nightmare that no mechanic or dealer in the country would ever touch, even if they did how to fix it if something would go wrong (and something would go wrong, because it is a 16 year old flagship model used as a technological talking point)?

You might as well suggest that he build his own car out of wood for all the good he would get out of buying a Skyline.

Well after all of this, I'm still going to suggest an RX-8. Cheap as chips for a low mileage example and lots of fun to be had, as long as the road isn't totally straight. This plus a semblance of practicality and the ability to take 3 of your friends. Barring that, RSX-S. All of the above with some trade-offs here and there. Second choice only because I prefer Mazda and a spinner under the hood. Final answer.

I was assuming if something broke, he would be able to find out the problem and fix it. Besides, there are tuner shops in every state, I'm pretty sure they'd love to get their hands on it. The owner of Pride Performance near me owns an R34...

Unless you know of a parts supplier, and you know how to do 100% of the work yourself, the Skyline is NOT a car to be owned here. Not only that but you may run into the bad luck that it will be towed away by the feds.
