Ugh, that looks awful. There's so much bloat that those 22-inch wheels look like they're about to crumble under the weight of it all.

Also, does GM really call a 6.2L V8 "Ecotec"?

Ford calls their mid-sized turbo V6 that typically gets large V8 fuel economy "EcoBoost." If people are dumb enough to buy into it without looking at the numbers, that's their problem.

How expensive is it to fix GM's magnetic ride control?
C6 Corvettes, the XLR and my car, from a dealer?

X 4.

Shop around you can get it for about 2/3rds that.

Super expensive suspension, 22" chrome wheels, and what I assume is a bunch of extra weight? That thing wouldn't last a 100 miles in any high desert without damaging something.

Doesn't the high desert mean the part of California where there's a bunch of suburban development?

Oh, maybe? I was thinking like an actual high desert that is desolate and full of yuccas.

I honestly think the new truck is hideous, and GM will still wonder why no one buys it.

Why no one buys what... The new 2016 Silverado or the High Desert edition?

The Silverado is still the second best selling vehicle in the country, and the High Desert edition isn't on sale yet. Not to mention 50%+ of the purchase price of this truck will be profit so they don't need to sell hundreds of thousands. You can keep cursing how ugly it is and how sorry GM will be while they laugh all the way to the bank

High Desert edition. The regular Silverados sell well.

As someone who's had plenty of experience with the Avalanche (my Dad has had three), I can absolutely guarantee you that Chevy will sell a bunch of these whether anyone likes it or not. People want a more comfortable pickup that is more or less an SUV Monday-Friday, and a capable pickup on the weekend. The High Desert, like the Avalanche, will very likely do little more than tow boats and haul kids... But with the Avalanche gone, I think Chevrolet is noticing that those buyers either have, or will, go elsewhere for their next vehicle.

I think what a lot of people are missing in the article is that:

Motor Trend
The new High Desert package is available on Silverado LT, LTZ, and High Country trims. In addition to the fancy suspension, the package includes revised exterior details and an all-new cargo system...

... Exterior highlights of the High Desert package includes 20-inch wheels wrapped in all-season tires for Chevrolet Silverado LT models, while Silverado LTZ and High Country models gain 22-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires...

...Silverado LTZ and High Country trims are available with the automaker’s 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V-8 rated at 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The available engine is backed by an eight-speed automatic transmission.

All of which means that, just like the Avalanche that came before it, you'll be able to get a pretty basic trimmed LT, with the 20" wheels, and the 5.3L V8 for right around $48k. Even more interesting might be that you can get the thing with the 4.3L V6, which was never offered on the Avalanche before.

Any way you want to wrap it, I think it may have been a better idea to do the Avalanche approach on the Colorado, not the Silverado, given that it could instead cross into two abandoned parts of the Chevrolet lineup. One, the Avalanche, and two the Trail Blazer, GM seeming to altogether drop the capable 4x4 SUV from the North American lineup. They'll still sell a bunch of them, and I'm willing to bet my Dad will probably get one.

Just.....ew

Whatever happened to these trucks?

Dated looks, not aerodynamic, and I'm guessing their crash rating is horrendous. While I'm not super keen on the GM truck's designs, they do essentially give new truck buyer what they want and that's to be a truck but have everything a luxury car has and more.

I am curious how their ram air system works and if it's actually a real ram air or just a fancy slit in the hood.

Whatever happened to these trucks?

Standard trim Silverado and Sierra models are still plenty easy to come by. Lower trim LT models strike a nice balance with the chrome and colored bumpers, but of course GM will go any which way with their localized packaging and other special models. Believe it or not, taste is something the buyer must also have when buying a truck.

To be really fair, that was pretty much top of the line for a 1985-86 C10. Probably rocking the 165 hp LG4 305 with 700R4 trans. The new trucks are overdone in the looks department for sure. But that 305 would struggle to get close to a 5.3 in fuel mileage despite being much lighter. Gen 3 5.3 swaps are getting popular for those old C/K trucks around here.

Is it just me or are they using the pug as a reference for their designs? The new one looks like they took the old one and slammed it against a wall, then smoothed it out.

Silverado in Australia sold under Holden/HSV dealerships

“For a number of years, the company had talked about bringing customers vehicles from around the GM world,” Holden chairman and managing director Mark Bernhard added. “Today we’re proud to announce the next step in that strategy.”

Mr Jackson confirmed that HSV’s engineering involvement will start with the conversion of vehicles from left to right-hand drive, with no other modifications added. “These are iconic Chevys into the core, and we’ll let the bowtie speak for itself,” said Mr Jackson.

While both Holden and HSV were circumspect when it came to details about new dealership arrangements, Mr Bernhard said that “the existing HSV network would be progressively updated to carry the Chevrolet bowtie logo and branding as part of a new dealership of the future programme.”

Mr Jackson confirmed that details are still being thrashed out. “It hasn’t been fully locked in,” he told GoAuto. “Once we get all the details, we’ll let everyone know how it’s going to play.”

The Silverado will ironically compete against the Dodge Ram, which is also converted to right-hand drive in HSV’s facility. The Silverado is also imported in limited numbers by specialists' conversion outfits, such as Performax in Queensland.

Mr Jackson said that while companies aren’t prevented by law from importing and converting them, economics will dictate that it will become less attractive to do so with a factory presence in the market.

“It’s the overall package of the program in terms of the quality of the product that comes in the marketplace,” said Mr Jackson. “The sales and marketing channels, warranty backup, all those sorts of things are part of Full Volume Compliance.” While trucks the size of the Silverado and the Ram are standard fare in the United States, they so far have had limited penetration into the Australian market, which is dominated by smaller dual-cab pick-ups.

Ford has imported limited numbers of its F150 in previous years, though it has no such vehicle on its books at present. Small-scale conversion businesses also have limited penetration, thanks mainly to high retail pricing once the conversion is completed on an imported vehicle.

I have to say after seeing the new lighted badge on a new Silverado at night, I really like that idea.

Is that a new thing for passenger cars now? I remember the Viper emblem lit up on the rear.
Only seen it offered on Camaros at my dealership via special order so far, and of those were SS or higher models, but the Silverado can also be ordered with it. I beleive the Redline edition Silverado comes with it as part of the package. As far as I have seen nothing else in the GM lineup is offered with it.

I believe it's a $350 option.
