But why would you play with the d-pad?

I don't, I've used to play GT1 and GT2 in the d-pad, always used the analog sticks to play GT4 and GT5P, until I've got a wheel a month ago. But the analog stick is almost as sharp as the d-pad so the effect in the replays it's the same.

After getting a wheel I can't even play with the analog sticks. Evolution mate. ;)

There is a large group of people who use the d-pad when it comes to gt5p. Same goes for the TT.

But why would you play with the d-pad?

If you don't have a wheel and only have a DS3, sometimes keeping the car in the track on a straight is easier by tapping the D-Pad than the sticks. Furthermore there are people that never got used to the sticks and still use the D-Pad to this very day. PSOne legacy (and possibly some system before it).

I'm one of the latter, find the sticks a bit clumsy, used to D-Pad since PSOne and don't want to buy a wheel ( expensive and my gaming set up is casual, meaning in my living room, don't want a permanent steering wheel there and don't want the hassle of constantly installing it ).
Happy this way, and will keep it like that when GT5 arrives.;)

As I said, i've always used the analog sticks, you must be very smooth and precise to use them, after I've got my PS2 and GT4 I never played with the d-pad again.

Hmmm, actually I install my wheel almost everyday, I just arrive in home from work, take a shower, phone my girl ( girl > GT5....priorities  ) and install the wheel.

I've said once in these forums: "I will never buy a wheel because I don't really need it, I'm a casual gamer.", however I just can't play without a wheel anymore, the game becames immersive and more funny, not to mention that's a lot of times easier. I'm no racing sim fan, I only use it to GT4 and GT5, but it rewards you with a completely different feel of each car, something that a controller would never be able to reproduce properly.

I'm primerily using the sticks. I've gotten to the point where I'm smooth with the sticks. Used to use the D-pads, but ever since I got a dualshock and after watching the replays, I've been determined to improve my driving and while it'll never be as good as doing it with a wheel, it certainly looks miles better from a replay standpoint as I just can't stand looking at the wheels jerk like that.

I know i will probably love driving with a steering wheel, and i know that if i do so i will probably never go back.
It is also a form of self protection as i keep convincing myself i'm just a casual gamer knowing that when GT5 arrives i will not see much daylight again in my spare time.
It's a bit like heroin for me i suppose from what i've heard, once you tried it your lost....;)

Is it just me, or has someone at Polyphony thought this:

"What's that, they want reverse lights? ... I'll give them the whole 5 logo made entirely from reverse lights..."

I'm starting to notice a "lights" theme going on here... you can just hear the guy sitting behind him's response... "Hey that's kinda cool, I'm gonna make the GT logo out of building lights..."

No. It's just bulbs. You know how old billboards and roadsigns were made of rows of bulbs and lit up certain ones to show words. Same concept.

I wonder how many Super GT R35 model are we going to get..... We got yellow hat and Xanavi GTR already I wonder what's next.

have you seen the mercs front wheels twitching like their having a fit at 28 secs?? its actually the part that is shown in the pic above

👍

The same thing happened in the Ferrari 458 video. Very cool little addition, wonder if it'll make the steering wheel twitch in the in car view?

I think it's caused by a dualshock controller (D-Pad). I think the trailers are based off of replays of races PD recorded at their studios (while the driver used his D-pad as shown in the replay).

Could be something else though.

In the Ferrari video the wheels twitches when it cuts across the rumble strip curb (1:20ish) which I thought was kickback because of the bumps although it doesn't explain the same thing in the GOW III trailer as it doesn't look like there's any curbs in the tunnel. Who knows!

@ dbarrade:  Good work finding reverse lights on a 911 👍

I have no idea, i just know we have seen a GT-R GT500 in bright blue with "Calsonic" written on it, which looks pretty cool on it btw.

Here's all the Super GT R35s seen so far:

Yellow Hat GT-R
Calsonic Impul GT-R
Xanavi Nismo GT-R
Motul Autech GT-R

So at the moment, only four.

I think it's impul calsonic now as opposed to calsonic impul.

There was one video with all the Super GT cars on the start screen. Its shown as "Calsonic Impul GT-R"

Also, does anyone besides now look back at that GT5 poster in the PSM book and find it ironic that God Of War III is on the back?

Yeah you're right. I was looking at the 2010 season and it just said IMPUL somewhere and not calsonic/impul. Got confused. Either way, hasemi is leaving the gtr behind and moving back to the Z for the gt300 class. Only calsonic/impul, HIS ADVAN, and motul autech are driving gt-r cars this year.

I don't remember seeing the Xanavi Nismo GT-R, I probably just assumed it was the Motul Autech GT-R and never paid much attention, is there a pic?

*edit* Nevermind I found a ton of pictures of it, I never payed attention of the sponsorship before, the liveries are very similar :dunce:

Holy crap I can't believe I didn't see this before, but does anyone notice that building to the right has the lights arranged to say "GT"?

Very nice touch if you ask me :D

^^ Eagle eyes strikes again. Nice detail, show how uncompromised and creative PD can be with fictional tracks.

Yeah I noticed it and laughed to myself when I watched the trailer.

This video - is definitely the same one described here, from Oct 2009
So it's pretty old. I think it's good that we see this one, so when a newer build video comes out, we can compare and be blown away again :)

Once in the room at the table we distribute in the form of inverted "U". Yamauchi asked me to sit in the first chair near the head group, consisting of his assistant, translator and public relations. Since many years, and these honors are appreciated. Once all seated, we were told we could take pictures during the presentation and recording video, but we could not do the same when passed the video of Gran Turismo 5. "Is that why, see?" I thought to myself. As if reading my mind, Yamauchi said solemnly: "It turns out that you have prepared a surprise. The trailer you'll be able to see the end of the presentation is not the same as the Tokyo Game Show. It's new. No one outside of these facilities has. There are new things. " "We started well, I think to myself. It just so worth being there.

After the lecture, the lights went to witness in all its splendor the trailer unpublished announced that no one outside those walls had seen so far. It was a moment of excitement because, obviously, everyone wanted to see the deformation and damage.

The video begins with a street circuit and with electronic music in the background. Then we can see the cars, especially new ones at its best going around the track, the GT style of life. We see cars NASCAR, rally, Lamborghinis and Bugattis. We see the pits in full and frenetic action. The images come from the replay mode. We run at night. The modeling is clearly at the level expected. And finally we see the first deformation and cracks on cars. There are a few shouts of excitement among those present. They are short but intense second accident. A lack of a better word, awesome.

We also see a Ferrari with a big city in the background. The camera rises to give a more global perspective. The video ends. The truth is that we are left wanting more. A little short, but intense. When just the trailer, the media present burst into applause greeting. Yamauchi, amid which he said are still working on the night mode to make it as realistic as possible. Not a word of deformations. "I'll ask after the interview, I thought to myself.

and

As for the new car, will have representation in vogue the hybrids. Also present will first legendary brands like Lamborghini and Bugatti. Until we have cars from NASCAR and World Rally. Speaking of NASCAR, Yamauchi noted that the deformation and damage in these high-speed races will be absolutely amazing and true to life, with turns, spins, roll, and so on. We will have to see to believe.

Then took a look at another set of game features that he says make Gran Turismo what is today a reference in the world of driving simulations. Arcade and story modes are the same as previous versions, but taken to the next generation. That is, new graphics, new physics, new details. In the shop there will be many parties to improve your cars. The creator was particularly proud of this facet of The Game. We commented that he can change almost every imaginable piece of the vehicle. Not just the typical sections of the engine, brakes, etc. ..

The online mode will have full support. The development team has focused a lot on this. There will be private rooms where you can connect with other players and tournaments closed set, for example. With regard to the shooting mode, Yamauchi told us that this feature, present from Gran Turismo 4 has been improved greatly. It can take pictures at any moment of the race, as well as specially prepared scenarios for this need. We were reminded that the improvement in the modeling (both circuit and car) will thus a delight for fans. On the technical side we said that the photos have a resolution of 8 megapixels.

Yeah it sounds like a very simular video to the one described a while back. Nice to see it finally reach us... eventually!

@RACECAR: Very well spotted! Eyes of a hawk to spot that out. N1

Hey guys I was just analysing the trailer and I realized when the subaru gets spun out by the C4 and SX4 the SAME C4 and SX4 appear behind it and hit it again.

EDIT:I also noticed when the NASCAR passed by the brickyard they ran in this order
1: 24 jeff gordon
2: 88 dale jr (national guard)
3: 48 jimmie johnson
4: 88 dale jr (amp)
5: 55 michael waltrip (blue napa car)
6: 55 michael waltrip (red napa car )
7: 24 jeff gordon (exact same livery as the 1 in first)

As you guys can see PD used the same tactic on using the same car over and over.

EDIT: Also notice how the #14 Old Spice car doesn't show up until that seqence is over.
