Could you imagine the backlash if he risked it and took both of them out? People would be after Schumachers head.

more like he couldnt make a passing attempt that would work and he knew, Alonso was slower overall, yes, but good out of corners. No use locking the brakes from a mile back becuase its what the fans want to see. When you get right up behind someone in F1 you are suddenly in a lower pressure pocket of air punched by their car, meaning you are suddenly creating alot less downforce and slower round corners, so its hard to get set it up to get clsoer enough for a genuine chance when the car in front is good in a striaght line & producing enough downforce that its pretty much almost a match for ones own car, which hte Renualt is. He had the same problem with Button and only got by becuase of backmarkers

Wow, this got a little crowed since the last time I checked. What a fast German can do huh

Yeah, the race was pretty boring until MS wake up. Good bye Ferrari you were all saying (and hoping), well there you go. A camera closed up on both Michael´s and Alonso´s cars at the end of the race and guess what? The Bridgestones were in better shape than the Michelan´s.

daggoth
Why didn't he risk a pass??? I don't get Fi drivers nowadays. Thy ALWAYS chiken out
Did you see him overtaking Button? That was a freaking awesome move. Why would he waste a race by risking crashing onto Alonso? He just kept pushing the Spanish, waiting for him to make a mistake. But Alonso proved being a REAL pilot and stood up really good, congrats to him! 👍

After Barrichello was out (for electric problems according to him), he talked to a Brazilian reporter and said that they (Ferrari and Bridgestone) had worked really hard on the last three weeks to improve the car and tyres, and he said they got it.

Barrichello was going for 3 pit stops so he could do fast laps with no traffic ahead of him.

Anyway, great race and I can´t wait to see the Spanish one. With Alonso´s good season I bet the whole country will be there to watch him.

PS.: You guys have commercials interrupting the race? :yuck: Don´t tell me there´s commercials during a soccer game too....

Excellent race, but ITV's coverage of the last 4 laps really ruined the feeling of having just seen a great finale. Would they've put adverts on in the 85th minute of a football match? I doubt it. I was more shocked at that last ad break than I was at MS taking 2 seconds a lap out of Button and Alonso. Well done to Wurz for getting a strong 4th place. JV proved there was a point to him being in F1, with a good 6th. Wasn't very impressed with the Williams - Webber should've scored some points, but made too many mistakes. Good drive from Michael, but well done Alonso for resisting the pressure. Great race.

Agreed. Why would they put ads right at the end like that? I was so annoyed i felt like i was being cheated out of seeing the closing stages of the best race of the season

they want money. they don't give a ****.

that race was pretty damn good though. what happened to jarno? i went to use the restroom and he totally disappeared. schumacher's push was amazing.

This absolutely sucks. I was going to tape today's race since I was not going to be around a TV when the race was aired on CBS, instead of the normal SPEED. Since the race was CBS, there won't be a replay until this Friday. But I started to tape the race and after about thirty minutes I had to leave. Well apparently the tape was near the end of the tape and only got like 30 minutes of the race. So basically I get to see none of the race, at least not until the replay, and it sounds like I missed a really good race. Though I did see part of Schumy pushing Alonso, but only like a lap of it.

What a brilliant race!

Alonso played it really smart after MSC got right behind him, in the press conference he said he was holding MSC in the middle of corners and braking more than usual in the slow corners so he could maintian the gap to the lapped cars in-front of him.

Schumacher was just insane! Lapping 2 seconds faster than everyone else, even on big fuel loads (well done FIA, his car was 2 seconds a lap faster yet he couldn't pass  )! I didn't notice what sort of car went past when MSC exited pits after stop #2 and my stomach sunk, I thought he'd just walk away with it. But Alonso had just got out in front, and the finally was frieking brilliant!!!!

Button was impressive, but not. Well done to BAR for finishing a race, even better with both cars in the points!

Toyota got both cars in the points despite what looked to be a very bad race to them, hopefully they can up their pace again for Spain.

I feel really sorry for Kimi, he should have walked away with this race, he has such bad luck. They ITV commentators are right in saying that he is so much better than his stats. If he isn't challenging for a WC next year I wouldn't be surpised to see him jump ship. Wurz was very impressive (I knew he would be), 4th after not racing for 4 and a half years, congrats to him!

Williams was pretty shocking, they really need to improve the mechanical grip of that car, it just doesn't stick to the ground, pitty too, the drivers have real potential.

Rubens wasn't too impressive, stuck in a que until he retired.

Fisi gave me a shock when he crashed, I didn't expect that. He hasn't finished a race since his win, not good.

JV, what the? He's supposed to be back in 13th...For his sake I hope he can continue results like that.

RBR were no where, hopefully they can get some more performance by Spain, I'd hate to see them turn into what Jag was last year, a waste of good talented drivers.

Jordan and Minardi, meh.

Good ****ing race!

well done FIA, his car was 2 seconds a lap faster yet he couldn't pass :rolleyes;

Spot on. 👍

Wurz did a good job though. He hasnt races for years and then sticks in in 4th. Poor kimi. Its hurting the championship with his continual unreliability.

My thoughts exactly.... I was absolutely raging at the TV , as I bet alot of people were! I have already sent my email to ITV using the itv-f1.com website feedback thinger... With just 4 minutes to go (3 whole laps), they contrived to show adverts for 2 minutes and 40 seconds (2 whole laps)... they also didn't show parc ferme or the immediate aftermath of the race because of ANOTHER damn ad break. Idiots... the race was excellent, and one of the best in years, but for me, ITV ruined it. Instead of buzzing after watching a great sporting event, I was just angry :grumpy: (I must be getting old.... :nervous: )

ITV did publically apologise: http://www.f1racing.net/en/news.php?newsID=84151. In Aussie though, we go to ads when ITV does, but when we come back we see what happenned during the ad break and our Aussie commentators discuss the race, so no complaints down under :).

I guess we here in Holland should consider ourselfes lucky. We get no commercial breaks during the entire race.Sure we get them before and after the race but during the race there are no commercials.

Heh,you guys should move and come live over here. :D

Nice find, Blake... I was wondering if they'd apologise... F1 used to be on BBC, so there used to be no adverts at all, but they can't afford the rights anymore, hence it's on a commercial channel... they also missed Raikkonen's retirement too! They did actually show the last three laps "again" (even though they never showed them the first time! :odd: ), but it was a bit pointless... still, I'm glad to see that they've apologised.. hopefully it will make them realise that ad breaks that last for two whole laps are just too long for a live race...

Hmmm, irritated F1 fans, or a bunch of money. Guess which one ITV prefers.

"I can only assume the producer is a football fan," English F1 legend Sir Stirling Moss told The Guardian.

Nice one, Sir. 👍

I'm sure that the new Ferrari sent shivers down the other teams spines.

Will it be a Ferrari whitewash in two weeks time?

phenomenal race of course...the last 10 laps were fantastic...looks kinda like a changing of the guard with alonso and schumi :)

kimis horrible luck continues and fisi made a very stupid error...props to ferrari for being competitive again...hopefully this season will continue to be as exciting as it has been so far...

No ad breaks here either! :D Just some little ads on the top corner of the screen once in a while, nothing that bothers.

And I forgot to talk about Sauber before. Good racing for both pilots. Villeneuve showed his not done yet, and Massa managed to overtake Coulthard. Too bad he had already lost some positions before when he lost his front wing.

Did you see him overtaking Button? That was a freaking awesome move.
I heard some dust thrown up by back markers hampered button, but I'm not saying he wouldn't have got past anyway.

Why can't teh BBC take over F1 :irked: We pay enough on flipping TV liscenses.

and fisi made a very stupid error...

I don't think it was an error. They think something just broke on the car and the rear kicked out. It was completeley unexpected.

Nice...BAR cheating....fits the team now-a-days...

Alonso came into his own at this race. Prior I didn't think he had the mental capabilities to manage a race, especially under pressure. If this race was last year he would have stuffed the car in the kitty litter a few laps into MS pressuring him. This year though he managed MS and held him off. Alonso has really come into his own. I'm still not a fan, but i respect him.

Kimi....uggh. McLaren need to pull their thumbs out of their butts or Kimi needs a reliable car. At this point I don't care if that reliable car is red or yellow/blue. Anything is better than a McLaren....

Fisi. Am I the only one who noticed from the incar that he lost steering? He was turning the wheel, the front wheels stayed straight and as he was turning while sliding (and the shock was moving the front wheels) the steering wheel was not moving in relation. I'm curious to watch what happens this week with Fisi. If reports that Flavio and he are having a falling out then it's over...if flavio still supports him and gives him another chance I think we will see him back on top.

Toyota did about what I expected. It urks me that JV beat Trulli, but it's good for my guy to come away with some points. Spain should be better...

Christian Albers....should leave F1, he has absolutely no future in it. He needs to go back to the DTM where he does have a future.

It's nice to see MS back up there...that was a huge shock but a wonderful drive.

Oh ya...Button never saw MS coming at that pass. he may make an excuse of dust on the track...blah blah blah...but he never saw MS coming - then again I expect excuses form a cheater....

Wurz...nice solid race.

your right...i was watching the coverage we get here on CBS and they just showed rear shots and then daly decided to draw all over the wing...anyway it was a mechanical fault...i have always liked fisi and was getting annoyed at what i thought was driver error but as it turns out the poor guy couldnt do anything...anyway i hope he starts showing the pace he had in melbourne again soon...and i hope his luck changes...he is very talented and i hope he gets the opportunity to show it...

flavio doesnt seem to have a problem with fisi as far as i know...but he didnt even mention him after the race and just talked about how good alonso was so i dunno...

We should wait for the FIA's decision.....anyway i don't think it's intentional. 5 pounds should not make a huge difference for the car's quickness, and I don't see what they had to gain doing this....especially as Sato's car is ok, don't you think ?

Anyway it's not Button that is paid to verify that the car is conform.....

About the overtaking, for sure he didn't see him , or just too late, Michael is so good at taking opportunities, nevertheless, we saw Jenson clearly slipping on the track.

Well, like you I'm not a fan of mac Laren (neither of renault....), but Kimi diserves something better. I'm expecting him to join ferrari !

Regards,

According to Renault, Alonso had an engine problem the entire weekend. Which explains the lack of running during Friday practice. The engine used to win the Bahrain GP was de-tuned for San Marino.
Perhaps that explains the huge difference in pace between Michael and Alonso. Michael had a fresh engine due to the retirement at Bahrain. Seems possible.

Regards,

i believe the FIA decided to take no further action against BAR so they keep their points...

im expecting kimi and fernando to join Ferrari 👍

You know...as close as the engineers and driver's are in F1 I don't think that is valid. Driver's know their car setups on a very intimate level. Yes, it isn't JB's job to verify the car conforming to the rules but the driver should have an understanding of the rules and what he and his engineer's can and can't do. I would think the choice to balast with fuel was the engineer's who probably told JB about it, probably saying it was within the rules and JB said ok. Now if I was a driver and was unsure I might have someone check the rules for me.

Eitherway there is something very wrong at BAR. It started when JB tried to jump ship (stupidly) and got worst when Richards was canned. If their isn't intentional cheating going on their is a huge lack of communication which is many ways is a bigger issue.

Any respect I had for JB went away when the willimas stuff came out...now my loathing bridges the entire team. Though I like Sato-san, I will admit that.

Regards,

It's hard for me. McLaren have two of my three favorite drivers this season but I just can't cheer for mcLaren. I've never been able to and I dislike Mercedes even more. It's not that I dislike McLaren but they are just so boring and seem to have their priorities all out of wack the past few seasons and F1 seems like an annoyance they would just rather not deal with.

I can't see Kimi or Alonso not ending up in a red car someday soon. I doubt both would end up there together but it will be one or the other. Then again by the time this happens Ferrari will be a much different team than it is now. So will be McLaren and who knows if Renault will still be in the game at all.

My feeling is that if Renault win the Constructor's and Driver's titles that will be their out. They will come back for a season or two and then leave F1 all together....

Renaults new CEO wants them concentrating on WRC...maybe Nissan will take over :P

Yup, that is what I was refering to. I'd love to see a Nissan branded F1 team but it ain't going to happen, especially if Renault go into the WRC. They sure aren't going to pay for BOTH series.

F1 is becoming much less euro-centric and if Honda and Toyota start dominating F1 I could see the possibility of Nissan wanting to join the fight but the chances are slim.
