Gran Turismo 4 Modding Discussion

Thanks, I thought dealer descriptions were some kind of description of the car like in the previous games, not the specs! Sorry for the confusion...

As for the restoring of the engine, you could implement it as a "create a new car in the garage of the same model and with the same parts bought and same settings setup, then delete the original car" like you do when changing colors (or so I read), I think that could be easier to implement than editing the save to bring back to 0 the engine life and mileage
I forgot about the non-English language part so what pez mentioned could by why you never spotted it. I would like to port the descriptions across for other languages but it's a bit of a big task that I want to figure out some proper automation to solve at some point.

Creating a copy of the car like the paint method is the backup idea I had in mind, yeah, I think if I struggle to do it the proper way that I was hoping to then I'll just do it that way instead. Only annoying part is that you'd lose any current wheels and wing just like repainting would.

I would say this is a good compromise.

Also, I made a cheat for GT4 retail that can remove the wing, though it only works while in races and requires a custom wing be installed. Is there any way to have a permanent wing removal in GT Auto if desired?

Question about the latest update:
With the track randomiser, is the Las Vegas Drag Strip included in the randomisation?
I know there is a way to code it on PC to load in place of another track to give a drag mode so was wondering if this was something similar?

I considered it when I was making it, but ultimately decided against because the track shuffling is always the same based on your username - I thought it would kind of suck if someone kept getting it in place of proper races and/or if it somehow blocked progression.

That make sense, though, would there be a way to implement a seperate option to load the drag track instead of any given track that you select? Like how you have an off /on switch for track randomiser? So that it won't limit the progression, yet say, you go into Tuner cup and turn it on, it will put you in a drag battle with a random AI.

At that point I think it would be better to have something more like a dedicated drag race rather than having it in the event synth rotation. It's not on the cards right now but it's a possibility.

Could you at least show them in english when another language is selected? There are other untranslated texts (i.e. the Full Restore feature) so they wouldn't stand out too much

At some point in the future, do you think you could add a lap multiplier on the Event Synthesizer, TheAdmiester, if possible, please?

I dunno if it would be possible to increase the gains based on length so it's okay if you can't do it.
I've wanted to do this since the very first time I got Event Synth working but there's no native way to override the number of laps in a non-arcade event. I want to make it work eventually but it hasn't been figured out yet.

So if you get a non-pitlane track for a 24 hour race, it'll just be 24 hours of driving with no pit stops? 😬
Basically yeah, it's meant to be taken as a more silly feature for a bit of fun rather than anything overly serious. If you get a race that sucks then you can just turn it off and go right back in.

A little QOL suggestion: I think the typical opponents menu should be on the main event screen (with the new garage button) instead of in the event itself. If you don't know which opponents are in the race and don't have an eligible car to enter, you may need to guess what the opponents might be and risk wasting credits on buying a car that's not fast enough.

I thought about this a while back but the main question was where to put it. The buttons on the event regulations screen are awkward to reposition so I might do something like let the player press start when hovering over an event.

@TheAdmiester If you were to ever make a Concept Cars only event for some reason, would you make an event flyer image for it and what league would the event go into theoretically, Professional Events or Extreme Events? I would call the event's name the "Concept Car Show" imo.

Every event would have a flyer image yeah, in terms of hall I don't think it makes a huge difference for an event like that.

This thread is for Spec II mod, right?

Question, is it possible to add regional songs from PAL/NTSC-J version to this one? The creator of Unified Soundtrack doesn't seem to want to make his mod compatible with Spec II.

It’s possible but it’s not something I want to do out of concerns related to distributing music.

People have managed to extract their own copies of Spec II and change the soundtrack themselves so I’ll leave it to peoples’ own discretion.

I don't think you will get in trouble with this, because you aren't directly distributing the songs, unless they were cut entirely from the NTSC-U and Online Beta releases. If you are just enabling them, thats perfectly legal.

However if that is not the case, do you have advice on how one can restore those songs from PAL/NTSC-J versions?

On another topic, thank you for Spec II mod. I've never really... liked Gran Turismo 4 even back then, but now with your mod, loose camera and all that - I absolutely love it and enjoy it.

Is it possible to make camera even looser or give a setting (slider) that allows us to make the camera follow the car even less?

I was always Forza oriented, but this mod made the game feel closer to Forza thanks to looser camera and I adore it now. Even started playing regularly over newer titles.

I know this opinion is strange, because GT4 is nothing like Forza, but I just preferred feel of it to Gran Turismo. Now I have best of both worlds!

As far as I'm aware swapping the soundtrack is just a case of extracting Spec II and an unmodded copy, then replacing whatever the music folder is. In terms of actually expanding and adding to it rather than swapping, I've never done it myself so I'm not too sure.

Glad you're enjoying the mod, I also swing between both franchises heavily and enjoy both depending on how I'm feeling. For the camera, you might be able to stack the original version of Silent's cheat on top and play with the values to find something you like. I haven't tested this myself but as it applies every frame it should override whatever the game itself has set.

Thank you for your hard work and dedication on this mod @TheAdmiester ! The fact that I am able to play it trouble free on my softmodded PS2 is already an incredible achievement !

A little thing though (I didn't find the info but maybe you already answered it) : Are you planning or working on removing the impossibility to change wheels on race cars ? I always found strange that you could do it in GT3 but not GT4

I think it's been brought up before somewhere but yeah - not sure when it'll be added but I don't see any reason it can't be.

There is a cheat for it, I have made a thread with Hybrid codes which also includes a code to enter GT auto with any car.

I've tried the Silent's cheat but with Spec II mod it doesn't seem to load. The pnach file is in both cheat and patch directory, enabling either or both does nothing it keeps saying no cheats or patches enabled, so I think Spec II mod breaks the cheat. I've checked 10 times if I downloaded it for the right game version too.

If you find a way to add the slider to allow camera to lean left/right further than current loose camera, I'd be grateful. You don't have to though, but it would be a welcome thing!

Forgot to clarify that if you're using Silent's cheat you'll need to rename the 32A1C752 part of the cheat's name to 73FEFB84, but otherwise should be compatible.

A slider for the sensitivity might be possible, but would be a lot of work and isn't something I've looked into yet, so I can't promise it any time soon if at all.
