Sorry for double post but made a bit of an improvement for a Nissan Dealership

Based mainly off of the Gran Turismo 4 dealership style.
Reminds me of the tuning menu from GT1. Nice.
Only thing that irks me is the images of the vehicles. I know it'd be impossible or a lot of work to get GT6 images for it but those images just don't sit well on the screens.Well, I designed a "Recommended Cars" menu for GT7. It's a bit more simple than the one in GT6. I kept a lot of the categories from GT6 and added a couple more along that.
EDIT:
Here's what a submenu would look like once you picked a category. Just like in GT6, it'll list some recommended cars in a category.
I just used car renders that I found on google images for the cars. Also yes, I did put a Porsche in there. I just did that to see what Porsche would look like if it was featured in a GT title for once. Also, I couldn't find any Ruf renders. :/
Hmmm, I think I might understand what you mean. Some of the images I picked look out of place to me aswell. I'll try finding better images for some of the cars I picked (or just pick new cars altogether). As for GT6, I have tried using the images from that game before. The only problem is that I don't think they would fit my menus too well either.Only thing that irks me is the images of the vehicles. Hang on, that's not the only thing. The bottom menu also doesn't sit well. Looks too... heavy if that's the right word. Maybe halving the font sizes and icons would improve this though.
Again, the text at the bottom is irking me. Needs centred and it still looks too big. The second may just be down to that odd (and unnecessary) blue box surrounding the options button and the text being above it rather than beside it.I tried tweaking one of the menu designs I previously posted. I resized the text and options square on the bottom part of the menu. I also switched out a few of the car images with ones that had similar angles to the ones I had there already. I also used a couple of car images from GT6, but I didn't want to do this with all spots. I wouldn't be able to anyway.
Yeah, I'm not making the text any smaller. Having a small text might be fine with you, but it will be bothering me. I just think it'll look too small in proportion to the rest of the menu. The blue box is based on the box surrounding the start button in GT6's UI.Again, the text at the bottom is irking me. Needs centred and it still looks too big. I'm not saying make it any smaller, I'm saying get rid of the pointless blue box and align the top of the text horizontally which will help it look less heavy and awkward.Yeah, I'm not making the text any smaller. You weren't? but you said the size of the text on the bottom looked too big. I thought you were talking about the whole bottom. As for the option box, fine; I'll get rid of it and see what I can do. *sigh*I'm not saying make it any smaller, I'm saying get rid of the pointless blue box and align the top of the text horizontally which will help it look less heavy and awkward.
Try using a thinner font, I think that may make it a little cleaner. Just my opinion. You weren't? but you said the size of the text on the bottom looked too big. I thought you were talking about the whole bottom. As for the option box, fine; I'll get rid of it and see what I can do. *sigh*
Sure, I'm willing to give it a try. Although, I like the current fonts I picked; they feel more "Gran Turismoish" to me.Try using a thinner font, I think that may make it a little cleaner. Just my opinion.
Yeah, at the end of the day, as long as you're happy with what you've made, that's what matters.Sure, I'm willing to give it a try. Although, I like the current fonts I picked; they feel more "Gran Turismoish" to me.
I agree, this is a great thread. Thanks for documenting how you make your UI, I think that'll be helpful for many people in this thread. Hope you recover well bud.Let me start by saying it is great to see this thread kicking back into life. Just want to say thank you to the contributors are still plugging away on their concepts. I have been off work for 10 days now after having surgery and had planned to create a couple of new pieces but just was not up to it. Tomorrow hopefully I will start back. I need to as you guys are showing me up on productivity!
Comments on a few recently posted UI pieces made me realise that I had wanted to ask a question some time ago but it slipped my mind.
What is the process you utilise when creating a new concept? Do you have a reasonable vision of what you want before you start to build or a loose idea that evolves as it progresses? Perhaps it is both!
1) My process commences with a 1920 x 1080 document into which any fixed UI graphics, such as upper info bars or control bars, are dropped as that lays out where you cannot work on the new piece.
Actually, I have noticed some people not using real display dimensions and even an incorrect aspect ratio.
2) More often than not there is a clear vision, bar wriggle room for changes in fine detail, which is mapped out in coloured boxes and labelled accordingly. Once I am happy with the fundamental spacing I place guide lines in Photoshop and then add more for borders etc where will be no text.
3) When I have a build I am content with, or am unsure if even a minor detail may not work, it is saved to USB and tested on my tv. The UI is designed to be viewed on a tv so it makes sense to test it in it's intended environment. This step can be repeated many many times. How many builds might you usually go through?
With people commenting on @RandomCarGuy17 with icons being too large for example, this testing can be hugely beneficial as it can highlight such issues. Colours can appear quite different too and I have quite often changed based on that.
Anyway, enough of me probably boring you all! If you have a system share it with us as it could help.
Hopefully you all keep working away as I love to see this thread in my Alerts notifications.
Honestly on most of my work that I do, I never get feedback, so this is much appreciated. It helps me out a lot, so thank you!Very nice indeed @Formidable. I hope you do not mind some feedback.
1/ In my opinion I would like to see uniform text size for each section and have it placed in a consistent position such as the bottom left corner of each tile. I would also reduce text size as on a 40" tv they would be enormous.
2/ The mouse cursor is outdated and I think the selected tile should have a coloured border to highlight it.
3/ A minor thing too is to swap the Start icon for Options.
They are all minor issues and the most important element is the UI layout. Also, do not change anything you are happy with just because I said this.
Keep up the good work as I look forward to seeing more!
