Where does this confidence that we’ll get another August update come from?
I don't think that there is any confidence in it.

People are just... bewildered that two cars (which will rapidly become one) is all they get for three months - between the June 2023 update and a possibly-late-September 2023 update - and don't think that's a situation PD would (or should) allow, and hoping they'll have something else especially as there's two massive Gran Turismo events coming up in the next three weeks (Showdown, Movie) crying out for some kind of game connection.

I don't disagree; even in the worst-case scenario so far - being a PS4 user - players got ten cars (which became six courtesy of the cars dropping into Legends rotation) and a track in the three-month gap between December 15 2022 and March 29 2023, while PS5 players got Sophy and PSVR2 support as well.

One new buyable car in a three-month period of a not-live-service-but-sure-quacks-like-one game, right over a period of intense focus on the title due to these real world events that are celebrations of it, seems... insufficient. I'd sure understand the frustration on this one.

However we don't truly know what tomorrow's update won't contain yet... but it won't be long!

Well, it could be worse. At least it isn't Forza Horizon 5, where nothing added is ever permanently available other than EventLab props.
...and those two Cupra cars in the Autoshow. I launched FH5 for the first time in months recently and found I just missed out on the XB Falcon, so now it's 10,000,000 Cr in the Auction House, and the Wuling Sunshine is 20,000,000!

GT7 giving some new cars a prize-exclusive window, then releasing them later is definitely a lesser evil, though the Legendary Dealership is almost as bad as FH5 in the cruel FOMO department.

DLC needs to be targeted for maximum impact.

The movie will undoubtedly bring new players to the game and see some people return. For those, there'll be 18 months of content to work through, totalling dozens of hours.

For the committed player, the upcoming GTWS would be an ideal event to showcase new content. There's been something new to see at most of the bigger shows, be it cars, a VGT or a track (track condition). It would be surprising if nothing of substance was revealed. Hopefully there's also another media roundtable with Kaz. Fair to say, 18 months on from release, we are now at the point where we need to hear what the next step is for GT7, and the franchise as a whole.

In terms of Sony's wider DLC plans, it makes little sense to release substantial updates during the summer months. If PD have a track (or two), some much loved cars, and the long promised Endurance races, Sophy update etc. It would make sense to target those for Oct, Nov, Dec. Countering the release of Forza Motorsport and capitalising on the big Holidays & Christmas sales.

I've mentioned this before, but remember that the Covid times with various travel restrictions, remote working etc would've meant PD had to burn through a lot of their content stockpile (which they were probably burning through anyway, especially with larger updates).
They're likely in the process of building it back up again. Having these long gaps between updates, as well as stretching out content like with the Himedic & Corolla, probably helps with that.

The updates were business as usual this time last year instead of this...mess.

If PD has to stretch out 2 of the 4 cars this month as content for September, it's unlikely we'll get a particularly substantial update then either.

This time last year GT7 was some 6 months old. Today the title is heading towards the mid-point in it's lifecycle.

We can't make any informed comment on PD's plans or level of support without seeing their roadmap. So we get circular discussions after every update. If a track is included it's largely positive, if it's just cars there'll be discourse, as everyone wants something different. There's also a distinct difference in tone between a GT enthusiast forum like this, and a forum with a wider userbase like Resetera. On the latter you often see praise the title is still getting DLC support after all this time.

If by the end of the year we haven't received at least a couple of substantial updates (tracks, Endurance events, Sophy etc.) I'll be both surprised and disappointed. I'd also see it as a sign PD have moved full-time to GT8 much sooner than expected.

Given Sony´s ongoing switch from a single player to a service game company I do wonder if PD have to / are currently holding back content while trying to figure a new monetization and distribution system for it.

Modern day Sony must absolutely HATE free monthly updates.

GT7 was called a service game by Sony and PD before. IMO the service elements of GT7 are paper thin and certainly not the full extent of the initial vision yet.

I can se GT7 changing a bit over time or a surprisingly soon GT8 that throws old ballast (PS4) over board and "finally" becomes the service game hell that we all fear and Sony wants so bad.

But live service games typically require free regular updates to stay alive.
It´s the paid content that keeps Sevice Games alive. Season passes, cosmetics, premium currencies, booster packs etc.

None of which are usually delivered as paid updates.

Imagine how quickly a game will die when a significant portion of the playerbase gets immediately culled because they didn't want to pay to install update 1.0000001.

Shame it’s not Hungaroring, but funny people were upset no tie-in to the movie. PD do surprises well. ;)

I don't necessarily buy that this is in any way predictive of content yet, but someone mentioned last month that the Valkyrie was in Aston Martin's "channel" in-game, and I looked and just saw that the MC20 is in Maserati's as well.

Again, it's probably just a coincidence, but worth keeping an eye on to see if anything else follows the trend.

I like the idea of adding an additional bonus time trial to win some extra credits - wish PD would add this more often than just the rotating 2 every week (one ahead of the other). However sounds like we are STILL missing endurance events/more missions etc which is quite disappointing (not as disappointing as 2 of the cars being available for purchase from “late” September).

On a different note, I finally got a Ferrari invite - was worried it was going to land on the 5k Credits - best get the remaining credits to buy the Enzo and FXX K (I recently got the LaFerrari from a 4 Star ticket).
