Saw this recently and immediately thought this is something GT Sport did wrong by having larger updates, especially towards the beginning.
It's taken from a recent GDC presentation by Bungie:

Essentially by Polyphony giving us large amounts of content early on, players then set an expectation for content that simply wasn't sustainable long-term. The content stockpile was eventually used up until we get to what the actual production rate is.

The drop-off is why it seems worse than it actually is. We're still doing better for additional content than e.g. GT6, and GT5's new content we had to pay for on top of that.

That is true, and it may be a factor to a degree, but I don't think that's why we're really seeing smaller updates. Kaz himself has confirmed how many cars that they can make in a year, and it's double what we're getting.

The likely reason is that we're only getting some of the content that they are producing and that some of it is being put aside for GT8. To be fair, that's what I'd do, it's just a shame the updates don't include more single player races and missions as those take much less effort to create and yet could add to the experience substantially.

Absolutely. And to further back this up, according to Nenkai all of the circuits we have seen thus far were in development since the GT Sport days.

It was likely the case with GT Sport as well, where most of the update circuits and features were well in progress before the game even launched.

I get that making cars takes time. I get that making tracks takes time. I accept all of that and while every update without a new track is a disappointment it’s also no big deal.

What I don’t understand and what I don’t accept is why we don’t get more races.

It takes close to zero effort to make them.

Not giving us new races is a choice by PD and has nothing to do with time, effort or resources.

They just don’t want to do it.

The reason why is what I want to know. Optimistically, they're waiting for Sophy to be ready and then give us an event extravaganza. But we all know deep inside that's not true.

Realistically, well, I can't think of a reason. I have been under the impression that user engagement is the metric used to evaluate a game's success. Are they satisfied with the numbers to the point they have no desire to lift a finger?

Man I'm so jealous of forza having my favorite gt car that I'm almost thinking of buying another series x just for a chance to drive it in that game since I know its never coming to gt7.

But I have put so much time into gt7.👍

I bet you could work out a way to transfer your GT7 Credits, into real money, to buy that X. I mean, a kid used a paper clip->to buy a house. ;) This world is a bugged out place.

Along those lines, it’s why(if players have the means) it’s good to have multiple platforms to play different racing games. They all have something to offer players. Was even more frustrating when I just relied on GT for my racing needs. Going between the different raceping games eased that.
However, I’d still have some frustration because, this game has this and the other does this better and yet, the other does that better, still, it doesn’t have what other has, etc.

Is it really that much more difficult to create 29 events instead of 29 scapes?
The events would be easier to create than the scapes, far easier in fact all things considered. However, the reality is that the shots being used for the new scapes were captured some time ago. Whereas it'd take a couple of hours to create an event from scratch, the majority of the work creating scapes would be the on location shooting.

They’re paying photographers to take those photos so why can’t they hire three guys from this community to create 100 events each in a month? I don’t get it

Anyway, I’m looking forward to the new cars. Maybe it’s time to buy a PSVR to refresh the game a little.
