Mighty impressed with the showcase. New GT3 will come I'm sure eventually but seriously, I can imagine spending years playing GT7.

The Synced replays is something that warms my heart. GT7 is like how I always wanted GT to be.

I'm sure there are still a few surprises left.

Sorry I'm unable to read everything, you probably adressed that, but the rain conditions rendering is awful. I think Project Cars 1 was better at this, not to mention Drive Club.

No sign of water drops on the windshield nor windows, absolutely perfect vision in the mirrors, very low quality of the water spray behind the cars, this is a visual nightmare. The PS5 will be able to display this 8K 120fps without any issue, or it is busy simulationg the moves of the clouds in the radar?

In the part under rain with the BAC Mono I spoted 1 drop of water moving to the left of the mini windshield.

Do we all agree it's atrocious? OR are they still showing very very early footage of the game at this stage (without mentioning it)?

I was actually surprised by the rest of the presentation by the way, I will get it day one, no issue on that. But this...

I hope we can stop the wipers somehow, because they are just visual pollution at this stage.

There are multiple levels of rain from light to heavy. They have shown heavier rain in previous videos. Here is one good example.

One thing that suddenly irks me about GT7 graphics after watching the SOP stream is the plastic-like appearance of reflective surfaces, whether it’s car exteriors or a plate inside the GT Cafe. GT Sport did an amazing job making different materials look real, but in GT7 many things seemingly look fake. Maybe it’s a matter of getting used to the graphics, but I really didn’t get this impression from the game prior to yesterday’s stream. Really weird.
It's a given in these games from Forza to ACC and GT Sport, you can totally see the seams at some moments. The more perfect it gets the easier it is to see the imperfections

Kaz did used to say that he saw Gran Turismo's world as the ideal picture of real life. So it's always had that almost fake-but-real look to it by design. I guess with ray tracing that might have been narrowed a bit more.

Car paint is plastic.

"Modern car paint is typically a made from acrylic-polyurethane hybrid dispersions, which are a combination of two different plastics."

What aspect has gotten more perfect? The car models are the same quality as in GT Sport, but in GT7 they appear more like plastic than metal objects. If ray-tracing is the reason for this, then I’m not sure this technology is worth it.

The point is that real cars generally don’t look like they are made of plastic. In the latest GT7 footage they kinda do though.

They are plastic though not metal so plastic is the correct look.

Debateable.
Sure is. But it remains a fact that there was a giant leap in visuals from GT2 to GT3.
Thats quite incorrect (I can give you a detailed analysis if you want).
Out of the 400ish cars we know, there are 36 cars new to the series. 3 of them are VGT's and some of them can be seen as duplicates (M3 89 * M3 sport evo, AMG GT-R * GT-S,...)
These are issues GT3 had as well.
Maybe, but still, there are 2 cars in the current list made after 2020, one is the Jaguar VGT, the other is the Toyota GR86 2021. If I include 2020, there are 4 cars more. So 6 cars that are made in or after 2020. I'm not saying that the majority has to be recent made cars, but six?
Thats incorrect.
That depends of your point of view.

Greetings, GTPlaneteers! :)

I have been so out of the loop and missed out on GT SPORT. As I just got through seeing the State of Play video, I can conclude a few things.

  • The bar has been raised. AGAIN.
  • Gran Turismo 7 may be the ultimate Gran Turismo.

For someone who mostly missed out on GT SPORT, I think GT7 will be a solid experience. I almost feel convinced to even get a used or refurbished PS4 to play GT7. I heard the difference between GT7 on PS4 and PS5 is about loading times and maybe some differences in visual quality. For what I know, I don't need the PS5 version since I don't have impressive technology or a lot of money.

I don't see much in the way to hate on GT7 about based on the State of Play. I even found the Music Rally thing amusing. Pointless as heck, but I can see some amusement in that. I'm sure if GT7 allows custom playlists, I'd want to try my luck using some MP3 featuring a long DJ session for a pseudo Grand Prix style race.

For all of the serious bits, I feel Gran Turismo 7 will be a golden game for a franchise celebrating its silver (25th) anniversary. I recalled all the talk of the PS3 being tough to program for. A lot of corners had to be cut (so to speak) for PD to make GT5 happen. Then afterwards, GT6 basically righted most of GT5's wrongs. Having over 1000 cars in GT5 and GT6 was great, but I felt like Gran Turismo had to basically reinvent itself by dumbing down the car count to a lower number and having more detailed offerings to boot. I never got into GT SPORT because I felt like multiplayer-focused games don't have as much lasting power. Once the official servers shut down, you're basically left with whatever single-player content is offered. If there isn't enough on the offline front for a mostly multiplayer-focused game, then you're so out of luck. Even with online only saves for GT7, I feel GT7 is more of a proper GT than the diversion that GT SPORT provided. GT SPORT did ultimately offer offline content, but it's still much different of offline content than in GTs past.

I certainly will take advantage of the customization options. As someone who skinned cars for various games, I will certainly have a go at designing my own liveries for vehicles in Gran Turismo 7.

Not having played GT SPORT, I feel gutted I couldn't offer my own commentary and suggestions for GT7 based on play from GT SPORT. My past comments in the development of GT4, GT5, and GT6 were fairly heard when I was more active on this circuit on GTPlanet. So basically if/when I get a PS4 and GT7, I will have to learn things GT SPORT offered while also looking at what GT7 has to offer.

Having said all of this, I am vastly intrigued about GT7 once it releases proper. I am absolutely not a proponent for early releases or getting games before anyone else does. I will therefore take my time before picking up GT7 eventually. Gran Turismo 7 just seems like the ultimate Gran Turismo. I hope I will eventually be right on that accord...

I mean comon, theres so many duplicates, racing versions of the same chassis, they count a reverse layout as a track lol.
To be fair, at least in GT7, they specifically say 34 locations and over 90 "layouts". They don't claim that each is a unique track in itself although I've been noticing a few media outlets and claiming "over 90 tracks" which is certainly misleading.

Personally, I'm ok with the different track configurations as it can provide a very different experience even though it's the same track. Of course more is always better so here's hoping they do release new locations.

Maybe it's because I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today but I have lost all hope of there being dynamic weather in sport mode.
Wasn't it specifically said that there will only be a handful of tracks with a full 24 hour setting? Everything else will have a morning to night transitions only. Could have sworn I read that in the GTP article yesterday.

EDIT: I'm sorry @BigSarj, you said weather and for some reason I thought time! Don't know what happened there.
