Renault Sport has kind of been its own thing for a while anyway. The cars are typically built in different factories and have very fundamental differences to the standard Renault models. Why does renault sport have to be alpine also why is Ds from citreon a separate brand. Its ridiculous.
Rebranding the RS arm as Alpine will allow them to have that separation of the sensible nature of Renault by grouping all of the sporty stuff under Alpine, so the next Clio Sport will be an Alpine Clio rather than a Renault Clio Renault Sport. So it is simplified in many respects. With the F1 team also branded Alpine as well it all makes sense to bring everything sporty under that one brand.
Regarding DS, it's a little more confusing as the sport models there are virtually non existent aside from the DS3 Racing which was a Citroen anyway and was limited edition. But they're regarded as a more luxury offshoot to to Citroen, similar to what Infiniti are to Nissan.
