State of Play was the only appetizer I needed before launch, except some much needed insight regarding PS4 performance. I think press embargos are most useful for people on the fence whether to buy or not. For me they just ruin the excitement of getting my own hands-on experience.
I hated the fact that that Greek page just spoiled a lot of things :guilty:

I wonder what starting car everyone's gonna pick? I know we only get a choice of three, but was the Mazda Demio XD a hybrid like the other two? If not, it could put those who pick it at a potential disadvantage compared to the Honda Fit Hybrid and the Toyota Aqua. Now, it's not like fuel consumption is usually enabled in the campaign, but I can only imagine there'll be an event for hybrids somewhere in there, and those who pick the Mazda could end up being forced to spend credits on another car if that Demio XD doesn't qualify.

Not that any of what I'm writing here matters, as I believe you'll get all three of those Japanese compacts early-on, regardless of which one you pick from the UCD as your first car.
Who said only 3? In the screenshots from the Used car dealership you can see 5 cars that are under 20.000 credits:
  • Nissan Silvia S13 '88 cr. 12.400
  • Mazda MX5 / Eunos roadster '89 cr. 17.600
  • Honda Fit Hybrid '14 cr. 13.000
  • Mazda 2 / Demio '15 cr. 12.500
  • Toyota Aqua S '11 cr. 14.300

A real shame what's happening with city tracks lately in GT. Seriously, Poly can't make an actual city track like R246 or Rome?! I don't know if the engine can't handle too many detailed 3d assets, I'd just like answers from Poly. To be honest, I'm not optimistic at all given the cross gen nature of GT7. Years of new tracks limited by a ten years old hardware... Oh and Pikes Peak is the new "Porsche" of racing game :grumpy:
R246 was found on GTS files,i hope PD finds a solution for the city track problem the london and rome tracks in gt5 were fantastic

Plus, in the Sunday Cup grid, there are the Beat and Copen.

We can probably use any car that fits the criteria for the first races, it’s just the collection part, are the tasks to complete.

Most likely you can use any car that falls in the PP required for the event unless specified.

I really wish the could add an updated R246 on GT7 with day/night cycle

EDIT: Thank you whoever merged my posts!

Apart from the three hatches, the Swift is the only other car with the right price in the used car tutorial segment in the SoP video:

There are just 3 choices on the first menu.

Regardless of whether we're able to pick any car below 20k credits or if we're forced to pick between the three Japanese compacts, I still plan to get the Aqua. I plan to at least use it in the Sunday Cup and the Japanese FF Challenge 450. Then, I think for my second car, I'll get a Subaru BRZ '15 for the Japanese FR Challenge 450. Do we know what other events there'll likely be? Oh, who am I kidding, I may as well wait these last three weeks out before launch - and then find out for myself!

(I mean, I saw the championships, such as a Trial Mountain Cup, and both a French Hot Hatch event and a Euro Hot Hatch event, but I believe those latter two were from a potentially earlier build.)

EDIT: Not to mention the next cars I get other than the Aqua could easily depend on what cars become available in the UCD as I play, or what cars I can win from the license tests - and that's assuming we can even do every license test early-on! Man, I genuinely love how hard it is right now to plan anything out.

EDIT2: OK, so I'm examining the State of Play presentation from earlier this month, and here are the events I spotted. Keep in mind that the player had a collector level of 19, so this is arguably the antithesis of anything resembling complete list.

Europe
Goodwood- Sunday Cup Classic - PP No Limit
Nurburgring - European FR Challenge 550 - PP No Limit
Nurburgring - Porsche Cup

Asia/Oceania
Autopolis - Japanese Clubman Cup 550 - PP No Limit
Suzuka - Japanese FF Challenge 450 - PP No Limit
Fuji Speedway - Japanese Clubman Cup 550 - PP No Limit
Tokyo Expressway - Japanese FR Challenge 450 - PP No Limit
Tokyo Expressway - Japanese Clubman Cup 550 - PP No Limit
Tsukuba Circuit - Japanese FF Challenge 450 - PP No Limit
Tsukuba Circuit - Japanese FR Challenge 450 - PP No Limit
High Speed Ring - Japanese FF Challenge 450 - PP No Limit
High Speed Ring - Japanese FR Challenge 450 - PP No Limit

Americas
Blue Moon Bay Speedway - American FR Challenge 550 - PP No Limit
Blue Moon Bay Speedway - American Sunday Cup 600 - PP No Limit
Trial Mountain - Japanese 4WD Challenge 600 - PP No Limit
Northern Isle Speedway - Sunday Cup - PP No Limit

And then here are the championships I found:
High Speed Ring Track Day
Tokyo Highway Parade Race
Petit Course de France
Trial Mountain Cup
Asia-Oceania Championship
European Championship

I bet that while there's no enforced PP limit on the events I've found so far, you might get a bonus for using a car with lower PP than the three-digit number that's alongside most of these event names, not unlike how in GT Sport's GT League, there was a recommended N-Series class for most events. If the car you drove was in an N-Series below the recommendation, you obtained a bonus, with the bonus having the potential to be even higher if your car was in an N-Class even further below the recommendation.

EDIT3: I also saw the Nissan Skyline GT-R GT500 among a bunch of Gr.3 cars, so I think this will mean both GT500 cars from the JGTC era will be in Gr.3. In another section of the video, the Supra GT500 is confirmed for Gr.3.

EDIT4: In the GT Cafe, there seems to be the presence of a certain "Tom Matano." Apparently, he's one of the car designers that'll be joining us, and notably did work for Mazda, with at least one iteration of the Roadster and RX-7 to his name.

EDIT5: The Pagani Zonda R will be the car you'll be tasked with for the High Speed Ring circuit experience, so this could mean that we won't be purely tasked with Gr.3/Gr.4 cars for the Circuit Experience events like we were in GT Sport.

I would usually start other GT games with a Vitz, but if that's not an option I might go for a Fit. I'll upgrade like I would before, treating it like an RPG and buying all parts in a tier and moving on to the next. Like buying all sports parts before anything from semi-racing. I'll probably keep cars at certain levels and buy duplicates if I want to go all out and crazy.

I just like experiencing the gradual changes and keeping familiar with the car for some reason. It feels more personal.

Just like in GT6 where you are forced to buy the Honda Fit as your first car, GT7 will probably force players to buy one of those three cars. Not to mention shortly after buying one, you will have to complete the Japanese Compact Car menu book according to the PS Blog.

I'd rather see a new track than PD reviving R246. Show me something new.
I disagree. GT Sport brought a handful of new tracks to the table, but several great tracks from older GT titles are still in limbo. Let’s combine the old and recent before more get added on top. Just my take.

Dang, you get to sleep 9 hours or more???!!!
I'm currently getting paid to not work lol. It's my specialty. Problem is, I'll probably be working by the time GT7 comes out.

Anyone else mention yet that the 1990 ZR1 in this shot (as said in menu gameplay), has pre-1990 interior? Would be pretty funny if Polyphony decided to make a duplicate 1989 version of the car, just to have both the 80's and 90's interior styles lol.
There's no '89 model year of the C4 ZR-1, PD modeled the early '90 model that launched in 1989. If you look at this 1989 Car and Driver review of the '90 ZR-1, it has the same old interior.

R246 MAY have been delayed into Additional Content Land due to the fact the Olympic Stadium was added in time for the Tokyo "2020" games and they wanted to take the time to do all the changes to the surroundings correctly.
I just checked the track out on Google Maps after reading your post. Turn 4 would now either be a fast sweeper or a hairpin due to the road being reprofiled. If the track does return, I’m anticipating plenty of people complaining that the track isn’t what it used to be. But a hairpin there would create a much needed overtaking opportunity, with most other spots being pretty precarious.

It seems that all the events that has been shown in the GT World (other than Championships) so far in the SoP are only 3 variants (other than Porsche Cup, that should be a manufacturer event material); Sunday Cup, Clubman Cup, and Drivetrain Challenges. I wonder if 100 means just those 3 variants and further variants within those events (like country, 3 digit number) would also apply to all the series-of-races that is in the game.

To start other GT games except GT3... actually a rather higher performance car can be obtained. I started GT1 with the 236 hp MA70 Supra, I started GT4 with the 240hp first Lancer Evo. GT5 have cars like Civic Type R (EK).
