To anyone that says the physics are the same as or not much different than GT Sport.
Wut.
Not even that, there are even those that claims GT7 uses the same car model as PS3/GT5. In general there are many idiotic comments on the GT7 car list videos so far.
After more hours and still failing to beat this GR.3 GT cup GT7 IMO has been extremely fun and the AI is great in this event. I am using a stock Supra GT500… the sound and driving dynamics are great! I’m getting in third but the AI has me pushing like crazy. I can understand people hating the chase the rabbit starts but once you get into the racing is fun and competitive. This seems only for the pepper i label races.
More choices are better (other than the difficulty choices in the option that doesn't seem to be that much different in effect) like using which start type of choice (and even then rolling starts aren't like that, but it's 2 row of cars cruising closely; like grid start but moving), or even in those pepper races, adjust the difficulty of the pepper yourself from 1 to 5. It's poor design choice to gave and force some of the more infuritating format, especially doing that first before getting into the real racing, but it'd be wrong criticism to claim the races are
all chase the rabbit, or PD ignored the AI (they only said Sophy won't be available at launch), or even all AIs are trash like the pepper label races are exceptions.
I wanted to save my first widebody upgrade for something special, this did not disappoint.
Some widebodies don't have noticeable difference like Ford Raptor, like, what's the difference there?
I was honestly on the brink of leaving this franchise behind.
When I saw the initial GT7 reveal in 2020, I was pleased but cautiously optimistic. GT Sport left a bad taste in my mouth and I knew that it was make or break for the team at PD. I became fed up with the stupid decisions, the daily races, a crap career, the constant adjustments to the physics and the lack of heart that was so sorely missing. I felt no sense of achievement whatsoever and my league racing results turned to poo off the back of the major physics update in 2019. I got more enjoyment out of Project Cars 2 despite some of it's glaring flaws and when I left that game, I made the decision to buy Assetto Corsa on PC because I wanted to experience the very best. Then I bought Assetto Corsa Competizione off the back of that, and I was extremely impressed with they way it simulated everything. I realised just how far behind the game GT Sport was and I became frustrated because it seemed so out of touch with the competition. I doubted PD's ability to produce a good game and my level of skepticism was high to say the least.
I had the same feeling like this, but it was on PS3 era, on the announcement of GT6. I just thought that it takes forever for PD to properly finish a game (in GT5, for what I think) with their lack of manpower or such for example, and now there's a new game announced already. Not that the game is outright bad (but compared to other GT, yeah PS3 ones are underwhelming) but just that I felt there are no hope anymore for GT and PD that time, that the game will be forever in the unfinished state the GT5/6 were (thus adding up the game's cons of which despite PD knew the 'fix' will never come, along with said stupid decisions), and would apply to the next games and so on, also including on how its main competitors at that time which is Forza Motorsport are leagues ahead (though turns out, it's Forza peaking at 4 too... just like GT).
I also actually didn't really have an interest on GT Sport, due to it deviating from the main format and focusing on online, and there are already some trend of game ditching the offline content (or even removing the offline content, something I hate on gaming;
and I'd like it if a game brought back an old feature that is great, it's equal excitement to new great feature to me) to focus on online (why tf not adding/focusing on both online while at least keeping offline content?
).
But actually GT Sport does gave a sliver of hope that, there are at least 2 things that PD turned around 180, of which they're the Livery Editor, of which GT is odd and lacking for not featuring those previously, but PD managed to create a great Livery Editor in just 1 game, as well as the car sounds, which went from vacuum cleaner before to being good and accurate, though with the explanation that they hired Mike Caviezel. It's unknown when and how Sophy will be implemented, but it'd be the next thing PD turned around 180 when it's implemented well in GT7 later.
Not anymore.
This game is an INSTANT CLASSIC and I honestly cannot believe we are able to enjoy something as special as this today. The whole package is brilliant with weather effects like nothing else, incredible graphics, surprisingly good physics and a huge scope for tuning and customisation. Everything about this game is soo well done (except for the AI) and I simply cannot fault it. This is peak Gran Turismo. Being able to take a s***box Honda Fit and turn it into a race car is hilarious. It's the game we all needed at a time where the industry needed it most, and I'm soo pleased with the result. The heart, the effort and the passion is clear for all to see. It may be built upon GT Sport but it doesn't feel like it in the slightest; it feels like the GT of old and then some. Objectively, this is the best GT game ever made. Not only does it look to the past but it also looks to the future; a future that seems brighter than ever. It may have a similar structure to the old games but it feels new and fresh. PD have done the impossible and I couldn't be happier.
And even for the AI, there's also at least a news about what they're working on which is Sophy, as well as a note that they won't be available at launch, thus it seems that the AI for now is not being... touched yet (also there are quite varying news about the AI, like how the AI in chili races are actually good). It's good to take an everyday car like Honda Fit to turn it into race car.... but the starter cars in older GT games (except GT6) are actually rather quite high performance ones, you can get a 276hp starter car on GT2!
But, objectively best GT game ever made? GT7 is certainly on the series' high point again compared to PS3 era or GTS, but, does it actually match the achievement games like GT2 had (650 cars, 27 tracks, Racing Modification for almost every car, high level PS1 graphics, road race & rally, respectable number of varied events unlike GT1 with tiny amount of event, progressive Arcade, etc. all done in PS1 to the point of 2 discs)? Which part of "future" did you talk about?
