It certainly is wishful thinking, considering the game has been out six days.

While some of us on gtplanet have racked up 50+ hours and completed the game, the vast majority of gamers out there will probably have played a grand total of 5-10 hours so far, and will still have an overwhelming number of events, licenses and missions to try.
That's me! About 2-3 hours a day is all I can get so I'm still eating from the Café Menus. I've just been told I've got to tune a Porsche, oh the hardship! Actually, the most fun so far was the "stick a wide body on an American" menu. The Camaro ZL1 1LE 2018 looked suitable and then, while I was fiddling, it got a bigger wing, rear diffuser, slicks, and brake & engine upgrades to take it just shy of 600PP. Last night I took it round Daytona for a recommended 600PP race (Pan America 600?). Absolutely hilarious! And brutally fast, quite why the recommended PP was 600 I have no idea because I was getting close to lapping cars on a 5 lap race! Definitely my new favourite car, time to head to the Livery Editor😎

Overwhelming? GT Sport had twice as many races. GT4 had over three times as many races. There is no reason why GT7 is this short.

has anyone else been having problems with Showcase on the PS4 the last few days? most of the thumbnails are blank and when I try to watch someone else's replay I get this error

I do find it weird that there's absolutely no events just regarding Gr2, Gr1 or supercars - it makes the event list included in the game feel quite unfinished because half of the games cars are just excluded from being used unless you go out your way to use them. Even one makes like for the Red Bull cars would be good for increasing the event count.

There's also tracks like Monza and Le Mans that have one event for them - where Gr1 (or supercars, or one makes with the red bull.. etc.) would be a perfect fit to bolster the events they have available. Its a weird omission - I don't know why they've done it.

I'm confident they will add these later on. The update from today isn't the "big" next update they announced. It was primarily a bug fix update.

I'm playing through GT5 again, and oddly enough, I have found lots of gaps in the A spec events, there's basically no in between events in a particular spot on the progression. You jump from repeatedly racing some 400hp sports/tuned up road cars which are still quite "heavy" to racing Super GT cars with 600+hp and under 1100kg on racing tyres. There definetly could have been more events to cater in between that jump. The jump from racing that to full on Super GT is like taking a whole 2 minutes off nordschleife per lap ... Even at least 3 events for a more powerful luxury saloon style series... just felt completely absent or like cut content.

I hope more varied events for GT7 will be added specifically to fill in the gaps and make use of the car collection, as GT5 had the same issue. GT4 was much better about covering all bases, it's definitely still the standard for a GT title.

They should've been in the game on day 1. There are no excuses for this. They're just events, and judging by some of the other events they did put in it doesn't seem like they've spent much time on them either (how many different Sunday Cups and FR Challenges are there even?).

I don't think anyone's making excuses per se, it's just worth looking at the updates and expansion of events in the last GT game, as well as PD's own statements concerning GT7, as a sign that we can reasonably expect a lot more content in the coming months.

I'm in no way trying to be a PD apologist, but I personally like the fact that the game is drip fed more and more content over time, rather than it all being there on day one, for me to do everything and get bored of it within a few months.

Did you play GTS when it first dropped? It was barebones, through the game cycle they updated it with more events… Unlike the hardcore fans there are plenty of people still trying to get through the game me Including and I took the week off to play. 😂 you must be going extra hard to finish the game, I’m not madd at you though.

GT Sport was barebones when it was released, but it's now five years later. GT7 is heavily based on GT Sport, so why does it have far fewer events than GT Sport? They've had five years to figure it out. And they already had figured it out five years ago.

Hey guys. Quick and possibly dumb question: where is the BMW McLaren F1 GTR Race Car 1997?

Will it show up as a legend car, or am I looking in the wrong places?

They'll follow the same GTsport approach with this game. Gradually release content to keep the community engage instead of releasing everything at once, I'm not implying the game is unfinished far from that. From what I've seen and played there's healthy amount of content in the launch game, sure the hardcore GT fans could finish it in less than a week but majority of GTs player base are casuals.

Yes, most likely.

It's about player retention, unfortunately. They want us to keep coming back in the future instead of doing every thing at once.

Exactly like I’m still shocked he finished the game less than a week sheesh… but to be upset after finishing the game in that timely matter I mean I don’t know that seems kinda unfair. As you said I’m expecting more events we have no endurance races and other GR races a small too.

Now that the hype of launch weekend is ebbing, some sober thoughts.

There are very few new cars that weren’t in GTS, especially new Super GT and Gr1/Gr3 stuff. I did really expect more by now.

Ditto for new tracks. A couple of oldies back (T Mtn and D Forest great, HS Ring meh) and an easy to model one, Daytona, just a big self-contained bowl.

Far, far fewer races than in previous games. Odd.

Yes, all these things almost certainly will be improved via updates, but there’s no denying it’s an underwhelming launch (less so for people who skipped GTS perhaps).

Yes, the weather, the nighttime effects, the physics and even the AI is GREATLY and very satisfyingly improved (except the AI cars still have a proclivity to coast where you don’t expect them to - along the top at Mt Panorama for example, what are they doing, slowing to admire the view?)

But it really feels like that’s all they’ve really been working on these past years.

I’d say the map is a nice retro touch for the anniversary release, but navigation between events is very unnecessarily confusing and over complicated. We should be able to jump straight from one FR 450 event, say, to another at the press of a button (‘try other races like this?) rather than have to search individual circuits across three time zones in order to find one. I feel like I’m in need of a notepad just to keep track of where races are. It shouldn’t be like this. Simple is best.

I know some of my old friends in Japan are not happy with the game so far. PD will be under pressure soon I think.

Is "Stella" new at the cafe? I just saw her for the first time. She gave me the option of being taught what a hybrid car is. 😌

What's unfair to one person is fair to another. Some people want a very specific thing for their money and I'm not gonna say they're wrong when they feel they didn't get it when it was advertised, GT7 clearly cashing in on the nostalgiaaaa, but I see both sides on this too. It's all round a difficult situation to tell what's fair or not.

Anywho. I remember playing GT Sport and was baffled at seeing players at level 50 (max) basically not even a month after release. And only today, I'm on level 42 or something lol, and I've got too many hours in Sport now, so I can say that's some hardcore grinding or whatever indeed.

Listen I agree with you, I also see what he is coming from and as you said he paid for his game feel how you wanna feel. Just the game has not been out for a week and while some people have good objections, some are just not being reasonable. How many people you think are beating the game in a week? I literally took off this week and besides breathing I’m playing GT7 and I still have a lot to do! I guess it’s this age of the day where is now now now… which is fine I guess but I’m enjoying the game right now and going off how GTS was with updates I’m sure we will get some goodies!

I appreciate your thoughts on the matter here, I find them relevant.

All I can say is PD as a studio works at their own pace, always have. Regarding the menus thing, GT6 had a very similar problem, some months after the launch of GT6 they updated the menus to include a whole new handy quick launch menu that let you jump to the garage etc a lot quicker. They've been adding the important stuff in later updates for years now. This is just how they make games now since the PS3 era.
They launch a GT game with decent content and to meet certain criteria, then they refine it over months via updates, adding new things and tending to what else the game needs or to improve it. The launch is never perfect, as was he case for GT5, GT6, Sport and now GT7, which arguably has had the best launch since GT4, considering there were no repeated, repeated, delays, as with GT5

To roughly put into context the other launches:
  • GT5 was delayed several times, people began to think it would never release. When it did release, it was not going to live upto the hype, and the graphics and framerate still suffered, took ages after launch for the game to be better.
  • GT6 launched with a very "meh" reception by consumers expecting a next gen release instead of it being stuck to PS3. A lot of people simply skipped GT6 because of the reviews and bad word of mouth. There was 2 big updates to the tire model and physics IIRC, both times changed tuning setups significantly to the point where you had to retune most of your garage from scratch. A long time after launch they introduced the Track Path Edior (TPE), successor to GT5's restricted course maker. This was an absolute game changer. So many custom tracks and recreations done by the community. Some people even managed to reverse engineer the files of the custom tracks themselves (turns out they are also stored in replays) to make another app to exploit the limits of the TPE, thus even cooler, more varied, detailed tracks were made by the community. Polyphony Digital also introduced a stupendous fantasy track called Sierra, I can only describe this as a fake but seriously awesome nordschleife. It was just massive in scale with epic stretches of road and became one of the best cruise tracks, very popular. Polyphony also added I think 2 oldschool GT tracks and a few real circuits.. they completely remade Midfield Raceway and gave it to us for free too as with all the other updates. Yet a lot of people didn't get to experience all this as they didn't buy GT6.
  • GT Sport Launched with seriously poor lack of content and bugs galore. But it's a complete game now, after several months of updates that also added dozens of new cars and several awesome tracks both non-fiction and fantasy and not to mention a big new feature, GT League, which was only added due to severe community backlash for the lack of a typical GT career mode events. They even patched some of the online-only components so you could play more of the game offline.

She was there before, I spoke to her when I finished menu book 1.
'Do you know what a hybrid car is?'
I mean, surely you don't ask that to the person who clearly just arrived in said hybrid car that they own.

Different people pop up depending on what car you show up in. The most I've seen are 3 guys desperate to talk to me about my Castrol Tom's Supra.

Why in trouble?
It shows just how bad AI can be in this game, of course most of the people will do that trophy by simply choosing a faster car, I did not. You can easily take advantage of them due to their slowness.
