Gran Turismo 7 Livery Editor - General Discussion Thread

MMX
Imported over some old liveries, and tweaked them a bit.

Loving the looks of this car, with the widebody, and deep wheels.

The Dodge on the bottom is AWESOME!!! But how infuriating is it to not be able to install a roll cage? I mean it's absurd!

I've got a question for all the outstanding livery designers in this forum. What are the best practices to upload custom decals without them losing their quality, blurring or become pixelated? Whenever I try to expand or shrink the decals, they don't keep their original fidelity, as SVG would do. Sometimes they look messy even when I just place them on the car body. I know this has been already discussed in other threads for GTS and I haven't found a specific solution, but I've also noticed that several people managed to display high-quality decals in their designs so that gives me a sprinkle of hope. Thanks in advance.

I don't think there is anything related to the decals you upload that makes a difference. I'd suggest avoiding making decals that might need to be heavily scaled in the first place, and on small text, try to avoid needing to recolour it in the livery editor (seems to affect anti-aliasing), and always be mindful of how you're projecting the decal on the car... but I couldn't say for definite this will give you sharper edges.

At least on the PS5 there's much less quality-loss with liveries compared to GTS. It's very well visible using the hood cam, in GTS you were able to count pixels of the decals you could see, but in GT7 it's all sharp and looks really good. I also haven't had issues with re-coloring decals.

It's relatively minor, If you've got a very fine line, then recolour it, it seems to 'bulk-up' versus just uploading the image in that colour in the first place. It's almost as though the pixels around the edge that form the anti-aliasing are just made a solid colour, instead of being a different shade.

Yep, on PS5 things are much better, you can watch replays of your cars without cringing at something blurry for no apparent reason. The only thing I noticed is that when you downscale a SVG heavily, things can get extremely pixelated.

Since this IS about liveries.............
I mean it's 2022 and technology is beyond our imaginations. You can take a pic of anything with a phone and then alter it a million different ways. Amazing!
It makes being able to turn a plain car into a race car in a game seem........well............WHY:

can't we install roll cages in some cars?
don't we have the ability to remove any badging?
can't we cover the headlights and/or taillights?
don't we have the ability to make more wheels appear deeper?

You know.....REAL race car stuff!

I don't know......maybe I'm asking too much. Just seems too easy in today's world.

I noticed a couple of times a decrease of decals quality when applied on metallic paints too.

Thank you all for the replies. I appreciate those tips. The decals that suffer from this the most have multiple layers with complex paths. I'll keep that in mind.

I wasn't happy with my first attempt so here is as accurate a version that I can do. Maybe a few more shading issues but I'm running out of decals. I think I'm close to 360/400. With the searching for decals I've got well over 10 hours on this thing. Hope you all like it.

Did some the past few days I've been off on vacation:

Based on the race mod livery from GT1 (Japanese version, I think; possibly in the U.S. version, too)

I also wanted to say this.....

This may be something new to the livery editor for GT7; or it may have been in the one in GT Sport, too. However, I just now found this cool little feature.

When you place a decal on your car, you can adjust/nudge it up, down, left, or right using the D-Pad. I had no idea this was a thing until my latest livery and I accidentally hit the D-Pad and the decal moved. I actually said out loud, "WHAT THE HECK! When did this become a thing?!"

Again, it may have been there all along in the livery editor in GT Sport, but I just now found it.
