Mixed bag, but overall a step back in the 70 mile romp I just did.





DD1 - little in the way of use of filters. Interpolation - 1. Torque set to toxic masculinity strength.

Pedals - OG CSL Elite pedals set up with 95/85 shore elastomers.

IG Values: 5-1 (used to be 5-4)

Car: Ferrari 458 GT3 with RH tires.

Tracks tested: Nurburgring, Daytona, Suzuka, Interlagos

PSVR2 Player





Idk. Seems like this physics update was aimed at the Pad player. First thing I noticed was that I no longer have the “sensation” of slowing down proportionally to the amount of braking I’m doing - while trail braking. It’s feels like the brake is airing towards the side of an on/off switch again. Second thing I noticed is that turning requires more wheel rotation now. Third thing I noticed is that the wheel loads up in a stronger fashion - enough to where I had to take out a couple clicks of cowbell on my base. A light wheel simulating a loss of grip from understeer, has now been returned to the throwback wheel skipping chatter cues from earlier physics models (presumably so pad players can better feel understeer). All negatives imho.



Plus side:

Whatever they did with the physics, it helped the handling of the 458. This car has chronically been a train wreck on any long arcing curve that required a lot of trail braking (think Daytona T1 and Suzuka T1). The 458 needed a -5 BB to even stand a chance, and still… it was sketchy to say the least. That’s all gone now!! The 458 handles like the rest of them now! It doesn’t even seem to ‘like’ -BB anymore. Haven’t done any tire testing yet, so that remains to be seen if the rear tires still get obliterated twice as fast as any other car.

Haven’t tried any road cars yet, but I feel like this physics update for wheel players was a half step backwards

Spot on to what I feel. FFB changes are poor (they just made it heavier and noisier?), brake changes lean too much into being overly simplified - but at a core level its nice they made suspensions behave as they actually should do.

It's a strange one. It feels overall less enjoyable to me - the part you actually engage with, actively driving the car, feels like it has taken quite a large step backward in terms of how satisfying it is to both drive and feel the car.
One I think will make me pivot back to iRacing and mostly keep GT7 as a pad game again. I think a lot of inter-sim skill transfer has been lost to this update, mostly because of the return to simplified braking.
 
I've been testing away all evening in various cars and plugging away at the license tests too.
It's still piss poor imho.
Very disappointing.

I dunno I kinda like the braking now especially for non abs cars.. I took my 930 out.. I drive it with ABS off as it didn’t have ABS and it felt way better than before. Granted you still have to be careful but it much harder to lock up the brakes vs before! I love the 930… I know that’s a lil off topic but I love that car!

Okay, I think I should just spend more time with the new brakes. Granted I haven't tried ABS off and weak though.

I drove the BMW M6 GT3 around Kyoto again last night and I felt an immediate improvement from before. The game gave me much more feedback from the front end, and the car overall just felt a lot more balanced. I could drive it with a lot more confidence and it reflected on the lap board, where I was half a second faster than my previous best. I also drove the EF Civic and it felt really good for a front wheel drive car. The understeer wasn't ridiculous and the light weight allowed the car to corner without any trouble. For a "slow" car it felt fast and nimble with excellent steering and poise. No wonder it won the Japanese Touring Car Championship twice.

You guys have far more nuance and feel than I do, I spent most of the session in the tt so no reference point but tried the 458 at Interlagos as I've been there all week. Tbh I don't feel any real difference other than utterly abysmal ffb on my DD Pro.

Are these idiots going to replace the damaged shaft on my new wheel? One thing I have really enjoyed going from pad to wheel is how the wheel goes light as you understeer, now it's just grinding the shaft. Like what the hell?

I'll reserve judgement on the handling but the ffb is absolute rubbish.
 
Same issue for me on the DD1 Podium F1. The nice smooth vibration from understeer has now been replaced by the wheel chattering out of my hands. The Red Bull car is completely unusable.

I'll have a tinker with some settings tonight, but I'm not holding much hope.....
 
I’ve only been driving road cars this evening but I am liking the physics change so far. The steering wheel finally has feel again. You can really feel the front end start to come out on you when you are pushing hard through a long sweeping turn like at the carousel at Big Willow.

The back end of the car is lively but controllable. The little bumps that throw the cars around seem to have been dialed back.

I don’t like that all my cars gained 5-10pp because of the change. I think that is a load of crap considering they went up with the last physics change, which was an awful physics change. I can’t say the cars are any faster than they were before since I haven’t done a lot of testing, but the feel is back and that makes me happy. The last physics made my steering wheel completely numb. Even with FFB set to the strongest setting, unless I ran really high downforce or racing tires, I couldn’t feel the front end of the car.

Remember that PP is only a calculation. If the power and weight stay the same (as well as set-up) then the car should perform no differently

The calculation is based on a simulation, so an increase in PP means that the car performed better in the simulation. Whether it's faster when you drive it too depends on what track you're testing it on, your driving skill and how much time you need to get used to the physics changes.

Power and weight are absolutely meaningless if you have no means of transferring the power to the road. That's where tyres, suspension, downforce and differential come into play. So any changes in those areas will also make your car perform differently.
 
It's definitely a mixed bag... But I need to drive more vehicles before truly forming an opinion.

  • The "F1" cars actually provide FFB now. Personally I prefer the weightier feel
  • I noticed a ton of understeer in the GR.3 M6 but maybe that car is known for that train... I wouldn't assume so but what do I know...
It'd be nice if some of these FFB "settings" could be customizable. There's no way they'll satisfy everyone with one model.

It's always been a less than satisfyingly handling car, right from the days of GT Sport. Understeer everywhere, except when you get on the throttle and some odd application of turbo lag wipes the rear out without any logic. The rock hard front suspension in the default settings only makes it worse.
 
My opinion, gt7 physics and ffb are a clown show.
I know you playstation guys dont have anything else to compare....be happy that you dont know other things:)
i like gt, it have such a great overall feeling, but it suffers so much in physics and the resulting poor ffb. it dosnt even feel like driving a car, it donst even feel like driving "something", it is just a gfx porn without any feel or pleasure to drive.

lol whatever bud. If I pick a car in the game that's similar to my crappy daily driver I'm pretty impressed with how much it DOES match up with the reality I experience every day so I disagree with you that it "doesn't even feel like driving a car."
 
So I tried out GT7 with the new physics:

I am happy that the low-speed traction has improved; but is it just me, or is it that the cars understeer more? I'm using the Logitech G29, btw. The Formula cars have noticeable FFB, finally.

Probably will have to drive more.

Understeer is definitely more of a problem, but there is now a better balance and predictability to how traction is lost or regained when caused by weight shifting. The lateral g slide feels more correct.

I've had the rebound feel of the suspension bouncing but that is a lateral force and doesn't shake the wheel. I think they are trying to convey the same thing with the game but only have the side to side (shake) to use but it's turned up to 11 when 3 would have been sufficient with a little more audio feedback (overriding sound effect preferences if necessary)
 
They need to focus less on vibration and shake and more of the weight of the wheel changing. Again, the noise coming from the shaft is worrying, there's this locking/clicking sound that is really not good and i worry about potential damage to the base. I do believe this is only with Fanatec units.

Might it depend on what thpe of road your used too? It feels normal and is triggering a good muscle memory response which is carried over from irl.

I just finished trying all 3 of my wheels, 285mm, 300mm, and 330mm and things feel pretty good with in game at ffb 7 and sensi 1(DDx).

…Have to confess to still being in an, omg the oscillations are gone! Honeymoon phase.

..are you sure your also not scrubbing the ever loving out of your tires? Its easily forgiven. Gt has been training us to do it for years
