Guys seriously, your having trouble pushing a stock 370z?
Lift before braking it costs nothing time wise, tc off, lift early wait, brake and then only when you see the exit start to apply.

I know im teaching you to suck eggs but the z370 is a really compliant car in the game circa one hour using it for me.

I haven’t used it aside from that license test. Tidgney owns one so has a fair basis of comparison. Did you see his video?
I saw his video and millions of videos on the 370z… again basing you judgment on a car for a license test sector is a little bias.. during that test you are pushing crazy hard to obtain a goal. Yes the cars are more lively and I like what he actually said I have no problem with it.. I have the car and it’s not that hard to drive after I have been driving for a week now that’s all I’m saying.

Would be cool if we could get a test car set up some parameters and see where the average time on some cars are.

@///M3 yea the car is glued to the ground feels great to drive… I remember spinning out in that test to, but again the physics were completely new… even still we are only a week in… some played GTS for years..

I think there is a few things off.

What I will say is the RX8 while popular as a reference is not a great baseline car. It’s cool looking car and quick in a hot hatch sort of way but in reality it’s a highly strung car with a very narrow torque curve and underpowered for its weight.

It also has a very unusual engine compared to pretty much everything else.

In the UK they are not popular and dirt cheap for used ones. They are an acquired taste for road cars over some stiff competition over here.

Rear wheel drive cars are nervous when pushing on, that’s the nature of them and hence the “feel” it doesn’t matter the power or torque 70mph hitting a bump in any car is nervous.

I think the old journo term used to be “alive” or “fidgety” depending on your magazine poison of choice.

They have devolved down to more “engaging” “rewarding” “alive” but ultimately pushing on they are all nervous.

Lol ok from what you just wrote i now know not to take your comments seriously.

The rx8 has 50/50 weight distrubution, a free revving engine with low torque. The suspension geometry is a trick five link in the rear and double wishbone front. The low engine weight and placement makes for a low CG. They even put a carbon propshaft in its stock form. Its probably one of the most predictable and well sorted sportscars ever made in that performance and price bracket.

The comparison between reality and the awful physics in game is important, because as you said, it lacks torque, so shouldnt oversteer at 50kph by a small throttle increase. Nevertheless its not the main problem, that would be how utterly snappy and unsaveable the driving is for any driver who are more used to drive on a constant slide. As scaff points out in his excellent review, this behaviour is countered in higher sprung race cars, which in turn is completely counterintuitive from real life.

This argument about the oversteer issue has gone from bad to worse in many cases. Just hear this:

I just had explained to me from my friend that it was me who couldnt handle the rotational interia from the gearbox. The dood couldnt explain what exact forces where involved and how theyd affect the driving, just making sure to point out that some magic is happening there and im born without the tools to handle them and fundamentally understand them.

As a mechanical engineer and rational human im baffled by these anecdotal and frankly childish claims and arguments that come across just for what, defend your favourite game that clearly just want some sweet microtransactions?

Can you imagine my relief when i moved my ****** wheel away from the ps4 and plugged it into my pc? Damn rbr feels sick, AC so fun, and guess what, my inferior PC works with my inferior first gen oculus VR headset and that in a 20 car race. Jeebus.

I got this response on Reddit regarding FFB when talking about RWD grip. Sounds like it might be a lot better on a DD wheel:

I honestly feel it extremely clearly with my settings, even with ****** muscle cars or old Porsche 911. All with only ABS of course. Also in the wet. It was a revelation when I got the settings right. However, I now need to utilize my full 8 Nm, while I in GT Sport used 30-60% and everything above felt pointless.

5/1 in-game, Fanatec recommended settings, 100% FF, but with less NDP (Off) and more INT (6). Less NDP gives a lot quicker and clearer detail but could break a finger or something if you're not used to it since the acceleration dampening is off. While higher INT gives a slightly more rubbery feel instead of the slightly harsh signal.

Don't judge the physics as faulty until you try it with a good wheel and good settings. The physics are ****ing excellent, super fun, super dynamic, and it's not at all impossible to be fast and consistent when you get a little practice.

Any racing wheel someone use will not determine if they are fast or not.. but my buddy who lives 10 min away from me has a G29 and when he comes over he always tells me it’s way easier for him to drive and feel the car on my wheel. Good wheels could help you get a better feel for any racing games physics.

What wheel you got? And yeah, I'm not talking about lap times, but being able to feel the rear end losing grip.

I have a 190hp motorbike. Just sold a Porsche Cayman, have a daily driver M140i.

I do track days in all of them, did the invite only launch event for the RX8 PZero and MX5

So just to be clear, what the brochure says and how things work on the track and B Roads while really pushing on are very different things.

It’s a god damn game, the RX8 is not a ground breaking car in performance, handling or better than a freaking golf R

It’s interesting, it has a cool torque spike because of the wankle but it’s a 200hp car with middle of the road handling.

So quite honestly your engineer friend, can talk to my engineer friend who was responsible for the merc SLR and SLR chassis and they can compare notes on the RX8….

I’m tired of this place. I like the game, it needs tweaking and some of the gameplay choices are different but this **** is why I don’t post much since being a member since 2006.

Exactly I don’t care about lap times but he always tells me their is more information he can feel from the car with my wheel.. he also told me he pedals were way worst that’s mine had way more travel than his.. I have GT T300RS with TH8A shifter.. I use 3/1 in game wheel settings.

Tidgney is very articulate and makes some good points in his review. I do think he is being a little too nice in regards to the UI and the seemingly endless clicking to get anything done in the game, it really is beyond bad. I likely feel it more on a base PS4 as loading times are long but dear me, the clicking and the yapping from talking heads.

I am also surprised how much he likes the wet weather, i find the handling wooden at best and distinctly remember Project Cars 1 having much more realistic feeling wet weather look, feel and grip.

Yeah cool, still doesnt make any sense why it should snap oversteer then...

I see you have alot of fancy cars and friends. Cool.

The argument was more on the lines; rx8 is a well balanced car and should not be able to provoke as in the game. Yes a golf R is faster. Yes your friend who engineered a chassis for a car with a trillion times bigger budget and way smaller production and like five times the power must be very smart. Yes you have very expensive toys and your driving prowess is just on par with senna.

But aren’t you playing on a PS4 base?have you seen the game on PS5 in person? I have a Q80 and the game looks spectacular!!!

I have the T300 too. Do you feel anything before the car loses rear end grip? I certainly haven't noticed anything with my settings at 5/1. By the time I feel the wheel going light it's already lost grip.

I’ve posted several YouTube videos of RX8 and MX5 snap oversteering or lift off oversteering.

Just youtube RX8 crashes for gods sake, and then replace RX8 with any other car especially rear wheel drive ones and then you decide. I mean after the 10th videos I stopped watching and had to pick one to post to demonstrate that cars snap over steer. Even posted my stories of my FWD and RWD doing it and me crashing in real life.

Also, I don’t have a senna anything bud. If you are gonna take a swipe just do it bud I’m a big boy. I like cars and bikes, I have friends very deep in cars or motorsport because I like cars….

I sure do you might wanna try 3/1 it might seem light but the information throughout the wheel is better! And you’ve already heard all the update your wheel information I’m sure… hope it feels better!

Actually just to point out that the SLR and SLR 722 budget was way way smaller than making a mid range sports car for mid market by Mazda…..

The engine came from AMG the suspension was prescribed so they had to make the carbon monocoque single cell piece and then tune the handling but it was a spin off of Lola at the time….

I am not sure you really understand how marking cars work…

Ok thanks, I'll give it a whirl this evening. Would be a game changer if I can feel that.

Correct, it won't make you faster, but there are benefits that could make you better. I can see a big difference in my driving since moving from a Logitech G923 to a Fanatec DD Pro (8Nm). The biggest difference is how immediate the feedback comes through and how the large dynamic range of FFB allows the wheel to transmit the small signals that can get lost or buried in weaker wheels.

I have had it for a few weeks now, and in my WRC 10 league I went from targeting top 10s to being a regular podium finisher. Even got a win and a couple Power Stage victories, and there are a few aliens in this league. And in the final season of GTS, as a low DR A player seeded next to last in all three races I did, I punched way above my weight and ended up 63rd overall in USA despite staying way clear of the meta car. Race 1, didn't participate. Race 2 & 4 used the WRX. Race 3 was karts.

There is really nothing that has changed regarding my speed in WRC 10. The difference there comes from the confidence gained by receiving the information in a more immediate, informative and smooth manner. I find myself pushing and taking risks in places that previously I would have erred on the side of caution. In GTS it did allow me to consistently be a couple tenths faster but the biggest help, again, was the confidence I felt during the races which allowed me to improve my consistency as well as push closer to my limit in a more comfortable manner.

I used Logitech since 2008 and I still highly recommend it as a wheel. It is very solid equipment and most games have good support for it. Don't take this as an elitist post, rather I am just sharing my experience. Granted it's a more than 50% more money to start with the Fanatec vs the Logitech and that is a consideration that carries very heavy weight for many people considering the expenditure.

Unfortunately it seems that since GT went to Thrustmaster (and now Fanatec) that PD has totally ignored Logitech and GTS was by far the worst FFB I had on any game I have played in the past few years (WRCs, DiRT Rallies, AC, ACC, Project CARS...)

So I would say a wheel upgrade will not make you faster, but it can make you better.

62 pages and running...hmm, looks like folks have a lot to say...

Incase some of you are interested in the actual theory (real physics), here's a pretty good intro. Not the best, I'd be interested if someone could point me to better material.

Only watched 5 mins and what a great video.

I don't think many here disagree with the theory. What's up for debate is the execution.
Yeh but debating the execution seems frustrating for some. Time to go to bed.

Myself i just unscrewed the rim and go around making brum brum sounds. Way more satisfaction!

My bad not sure i do either.

From reading this forum and just inching towards trying to make a point that the oversteer is poorly implemented i sure do learn alot more about business, peoples cars, their connection to motorsport and their almighty knowledge about everything.

Maybe you can teach me more about engineering and physics in general, maybe hold a class on youtube videos you found online about crashed mazdas. Maybe you can get you engineer friend onboard and explain how the slr is really a great value for the money and what an engineering feat it must have been to take all those parts out of the parts bin and put them together.

Comon buddy you started out so strong with your boasting lets go give us some more!

Yes mx5 and rx8 will oversteer, snap and kill you but not by the slight provocation as that in gt7. That was the point of discussion, not your cars, your friends or your friends cats dog who engineered a mclaren.

GT DD Pro 8 Nm, 5/1 in-game, 100% FF - it's ****ing great. You can clearly feel the edge where you max out available grip and any slight disturbance like throttle/brake/bumps will send you flying. The wheel goes from bumpy to perfectly smooth - stay right before that edge while it's still bumpy and you won't get snap oversteer. If you turn your wheel too much IRL and max out available grip, and then get on the throttle, you'll exceed available grip and slide.

I only use ABS, no other assists.

However, with poor ffb settings or weak wheels, that edge is really hard to notice and feel. If I lower my wheel to 50% (4 Nm) I get caught sometimes in the more sketchy cars. With 30% it feels like lottery. With 100% at 8 Nm I never ever get caught - I can pick the sketchiest car and drive it on the limit consistently, catching small slides and so on. If I spin, I always know why, it doesn't feel random at all.

Also, in GT Sport we had loud tyre squeal and lots of built in understeer. Now both are gone.

I love the physics/ffb and will be both sad and mad if they change anything because of whiners with poor gear/settings, or people who lack skill, don't want to practice and have egos too big for assists.

And yes, this forum is toxic. Imagine if people were more humble, listened more, asked questions in hope of learning, and practiced instead of whining.

Hey, I appreciate condescending but as I asked call a spade a spade and be contrite in what you are saying I have a thick skin, my 7 year old daughter is fairly brutal, yet not as snide.

I’m no expert but in the real world, I’m alive after driving a few of these things. I’ve also managed just with my controller rather than my wheel to just fine.

Was also at the cayenne experience day when it launched at silverstone and before that the Land Rover pre launch of the “new” rangy sport….we did the off road course of donnington if you are familiar?

You want a lesson in physics or more useful, driving dynamics?

Go pay for some advanced driving tuition in a real car with skin in the game and hitting stuff matters like I did.

In fact understand limit points and reading the road will make you a better driver in GT or any racer but more importantly on the road, which is where it matters mate.

Or just be a person that makes friends with people that share your passion.
