I have both original PS5 and PS5 Pro and tested them back to back with the PSVR2. I didn't notice any differences between image quality.

Resolution looks the same, pop-in (such as AI car details that pop-in when you get closer to them) looks the same, mirrors look the same and reprojection is still in use.

The only difference I noticed is that the framerate is more stable. The framerate has always been exceptionally good all things considered, but it would still hitch every now and again when under stress. I haven't been able to replicate this with the Pro yet.

Also, when the camera pans around the car at the beginning of a rolling race start (in 2D mode just before it 'pops' you into the car in VR mode), the framerate is noticably better. I tested the Citroën DS and that panning shot looks 30fps on the OG PS5, but runs about 60fps on the Pro.
Ok now this makes everyones hype sound like a placebo train....

a BIG question - could PSSR be utilised in stock PS5? Is sony just playing the same game as Nvidia by making new software upscale exclusive to new hardware just to sell hardware? Planned obsolescence anyone?
AI requires power to a certian degree.
Some of the current PS5 games already bring it to its knees, so in these cases it would be a "no chance without Pro".

It cant, it takes 2ms to upsacle form 1080 to 4k on 300tops int8 ml ps5pro capabilites, it would take way too long on base ps5

I'd like PSVR2 and PS5 Pro owners to run a test. Take the 2018 Nissan GT-R GT3 (gr.3) and let me know if you can now clearly read the numbers on the speedometer. Before, they were almost illegible.
If the resolution of the interiors has actually improved, this detail should be quite noticeable.

Thanks in advance!

In the excitement, Did you forget to connect the steering wheel to the wall power ?
Everything was working normally, when first run. It stopped steering after going to Settings and changing volume levels.

My recommendation is for new Pro owners to ignore changing any Settings, just in case, until a bug-fix is released.

This is for the migrated PS4 version of GT7. Does this affect the real PS5 install, too? Dunno...

This issue has been reported directly to PDI, so they are now aware of the problem.

I checked, looks very similar

I just went full send and just threw my SSD into the PS5 Pro once I figured out how to open the 'lid'. It detected the SSD and my games upon the first boot up. That saved me a chunk of time 👍

Well that's really interesting. I really do see a difference. Did not do a side by side, but I know the way it performed on the Base PS5 really well. And I'm not alone apparently :)!

I’ve been the victim of the placebo effect before. In regards to VR even. It’s astonishing sometimes.
I wouldn’t trust myself without a side by side.

Considering the game has not been patched yet and therefore should in theory look exactly the same I’m really leaning a certain way here..

Heh. Not wanting to step on anyone's toes, and I have no real opinion if the ps5pro update could deliver all the mentioned/sensed improvements (then again, we're talking PD here, and I would think it highly likely that they do have some improvements added in code already, if not even conditionals set for the pro console already (as a Sony studio, they will have had prototypes of the pro dev kit for yonks...).

But - all these hype statements I feel / it seems / I think remind me a lot of the audio coded / high end audio wars of the last 2 decades (where the only half way sensible proof in the pudding is blind A/B testing - which is a tad more difficult with a ps2vr HMD than a stereo audio source...

I'll try to restrain myself from buying and jumping on the hype train ... As you might've guessed... :D

Yeah. It sounds good. But not $700 good. Yet. Decent baseline feedback so far, but the upscaling performance.. whenever it happens, seems as if it will be the determining factor as to whether this will be worth it for vr users.

Apples and oranges tbh.

Games running at 60fps that ran at 30fps before for example is meaningful and has nothing to do with the esoteric nonsense in the audiophile scene.

Yes - luckily the price makes it an easy "no". Even if all the most positive sights of visual improvements and fps gains come true. At 599€/649€ I might consider upgrade on a forgiving day, but at 849€ WITHOUT disc drive it is loud H#%! NO. 😂

Fair comment, since mine sounded broad stroke...
Fps/Hz is definitely noticable. I did mean the more esoteric ones in here like 'ai is better' & 'i see mountains where there were none' (paraphrasing... No dig at the people experiencing this! The opposite - thanks for the input & chiming actually!

Placebo or not?

I don’t want to give the wrong impression that having a pro with PSVR2 will do wonders when it’s not enhanced. No it won’t.

I find the image is still soft, I don’t think there is a resolution bump yet, but draw distance does seem improved. I used to have issues looking a long way down the track being very soft/blurry. I’m not noticing that now. Perhaps that is track and race specific but I did 3 hours of single player and the weekly challenge yesterday and I did not notice it.

Pop-up or pop-in (whatever you want to call it) is still there but again I notice it less. Could I quantify how much? No.

Dial clarity is not improved. That’s because I don’t think there’s been a resolution bump and near objects are rendered at the best current resolution anyway.

The system feels smoother to me and, as I said before, what is improved is subtle, but I feel that there are enough small improves that I am enjoying VR even more now.

I look forward to enhancements coming down the road and what that’ll do to the experience.

With the patch not being out, it's very unlikely for the game to be enhanced in any way in terms of resolution or graphical fidelity. Things like maxing out framerate caps / dipping FPS less are natural with more power put to the task, but the game won't automatically enhance resolution (since GT7 operates at a fixed res) or increase draw distance without being explicitly told to do so.

Something like draw distance should be easily testable though across a regular PS5 and a Pro on the current version at least.

Apart from in VR when the resolution changes hugely depending on where you are looking due to eye tracking. I dont think we know way this works fully and what resolutions it can work with.

GT7 is going to look fantastic when we get our patch.

Is 8K even needed? I think 8K is going to die like 3D did. No one really cares that much. 4K is enough for most people and few manufacturers even make 8K anymore. Even the new behemoth 110 and 115" displays, like the new TCLs, are only 4K.
I don't know but a market failing for the average people might be not a factor for gamers.
Apparantly it is worth it for games with a large vista showing lots of detail.
However I dont care about TV displays anymore. Its the VR displays am looking for, 16k per eye.
This should/will happen and maybe not for the general market but for people who already want it. Though having said that there maybe shared development with mobile display market and new ways to use phones.
That would help it be more affordable. Interesting future.

Maybe it's worth seperating the debate from watching a TV to being in VR.
I am sure PD will make 16k Gran Turismo for VR.
