Is 8K even needed? I think 8K is going to die like 3D did. No one really cares that much. 4K is enough for most people and few manufacturers even make 8K anymore. Even the new behemoth 110 and 115" displays, like the new TCLs, are only 4K.
The reason why 3D died is because it required extra equipment for each person wanting to interact with it and that you needed to keep charged and was causing some people nausea or headaches. If you wanted to watch a movie in 3D with your family you had to buy everyone 3D glasses and keep them charged. If one of your family members was suffering from nausea due to the 3D effect then you could either watch it without them or just watch the movie in 2D. If you want to look for parallels to that, VR is more like 3D and it remains a niche 10+ years after it was lauded as making traditional displays obsolete. Well, traditional displays still exist and it's VR that's not doing great.

8K is just a higher resolution. People said 4K was unnecessary when it started being available in consumer displays and it's now the standard. 8K will also reach mass adoption at some point. If you want to look for other tech to draw comparisions, this is more like HDR - just making what's there better without requiring putting anything on your face.

£879.00 for 8K from a brand name. It's a shame it's only 8K 50 otherwise I'd buy one.
50hz = 120fps?
It seems different brands use different ways to express specs. But apparantly its all the same numbers. 50/60/100/120 same these days. Used to be completely different.
But maybe not. Maybe 50hz means 60fps. I dont know its stupid. Samsung are guilty.

Edit: so 50 is 60, 100 is 120 ...

Just looked at the Samsung TV you linked to it is 8k 60 but it is also 4k 120hz from HDMI. It also mentions 120hz gaming.
So should be good with a PS5 Pro.

Nope. The TV is 4K 120 on all four HDMI sockets but 50 on 8K. It's a common setup for Samsung

As a hockey fan i will happily snap up an 8k tv as soon as something respectable comes into the 3-4k range for a 70+ incher. 4k has beena great jump. You can appreciate so much more of the game. Although its very obvious when the cameras in a rink are older, or the lighting ..not great

That said, the incremental gain is slow and annoying. I kinda wish they would do a big jump and stay there for a decade while fps and dynamic range improve.

As far as vr. More better gooder. Until its a window. 😁. Whatever those stats are i want em!

More seriously..i wish sony would cut a deal with the nhl, the way meta has with the nba. F1 should too, fir that matter. Vr sport spectating is the thing 3d wished it could have been.

Im definitely in the, whats wrong with you people, make the product and take my money!

Well, you could ask the console to draw 120 frames per second, but the display would discard 70 of them each second because it is limited to drawing 50 of them.
50hz means the device is doing someting 50 times per second, so it physically cant be 60 frames per second.

There is no such thing as 50hz displays since decades ago. It's an Indiana Jones ancient artifact of mystic properties. It even seems to trick reviewers of the Samsung TV.
The "50hz" Samsung 8k TV is actually 60hz according to their official certification datasheet.
And by 60hz they just mean default. Its actually a 120hz display. Its just a normal TV display like all the others.

Nope.. base model Samsung 8k is 60hz panel. What ever hz the software makes is irrelevant. For any kind of gaming native 120hz 4k beats 60hz 8k any day.

That said - unless one is already on premiun Oled/neoQled, the money wasted on ps5pro goes in far better use in upgrading your tv.

I agree, if you’ve not got a 120fps 4k tv and you’re using a PS5pro you’re insane

You could be right there, it has Motion xcelerator Turbo not Motion Xcelerator Turbo Pro.
It does support the following:
Resolution: 3840 x 2160p, 4096 x 2160p
10bit RGB 120 fps frame rate

Resolution: 7680 x 4320p
10bit RGB 60fps frame rate

Video playback supports 100mbps on HVEC 120fps 4k, 60fps 8k.
BUT I guess above 60fps its trickery. Another reason to go Pro!

I havent looked are there such things as 8k 120fps (simultaneous) TV?

I just bought a new LED TV over OLED...funny enough the cost difference was a PS5Pro.

Well there are led tvs and then there are led tvs. Like there are slightly different "petrol cars". Thats why I wrote "NeoQled".. better Neo Qleds and Oleds are propably the best gaming tvs as bang for buck. I worked with TVs nearly 20 years and currently playing on qn9. Didnt want to worry kids burning something to oled or dimming the room while playing.

Ps. Must have been quite big tv, as 77" oled is propably the cheapest to have that kind of price difference to Led. Big and cheap is often a bad idea. Rather buy a smaller good one and move the chair..😉

Sony 50" 4KLED ~$700... Sony OLED cost for 48" $1400, glad you mentioned the burn in... from reviews people mention that and its why I didn't get it

Burn is very unlikely nowadays.
New recent TV are more robust than you think and plus:

In order to have burn in of any kind, you would have to leave the TV on the same channel with the same logos and bright shapes static (without moving) 24/7 for over 700 days non stop...

Which is not a remotely a scenario that would apply to 99.991% of the population...

Let's try not to over worry about such things or put too much emphasis on it .

Sorry I digress...

It is promising to see NMS getting 8K reliably.
So it is a start for future games within 5 years to be able to utilize the PS5Pro, right when the PS6 will come out in 2029/2030.

Getting off-topic, but a quick note. Burn-in is rare, but since oleds nowadays rely on software to prevent it, there are cases every now and then as "errors" and the hours in those cases are nowhere near the theoretical numbers manufacturers claim IF the software works 100% of the time. Funny thing is that these "errors" are not defects covered by warranty, as there IS a mention of the risk in the manuals making it a "user error". And this is in EU where customer laws are quite demanding towards resellers. So basically all it takes is bad luck and you are stuck with ghost images.

Like I said - almost 20 years working with tvs and "micro-led" was an easy desicion. That said - the technical terms used in tv marketing are vague and misleading at the best. Even reviewers cut a lot of corners these days. But lets not go there. The point is that a good tv with stock PS5 is far superior to a base model tv with PS5 Pro.

Im not 100% familiar with the latest line-up, but what I recall Sony is one of the rare brands to have some native 120hz TVs in 48-50" range of leds. It is a demanding size to find a good non-oled tv as majority of 48-50" models on other brands are build with inferior and often older 60hz panels, even if the corresponding model in 55" is 120hz. I guess it is too expensive in relation to the sales to make these smaller panels. It is very common in the case that 43-50" models have 120hz panel, that the corresponding 55" model is cheaper due to production amounts and panel availability. I guess pixel density also plays some role in the production cost.

Don't the reflections in the teaser image make it obviously clear it's the PS5 Pro patch!?
yeah i think so .

Every time it seems like GT7’s reached the end of its life, Polyphony roars back with unexpected new content. This update will also very likely include new graphics modes that PS5 Pro owners can take advantage of, unlocking raytracing during gameplay as well as an 8K mode, for those four of you who own such a TV. No word on the whereabouts of that nostalgic My First GT demo we’re supposedly getting over the holidays, though.

found here. https://www.thedrive.com/news/gran-turismo-7-is-getting-an-eclectic-mix-of-cars-in-next-weeks-update

maybe the pro will be lncluded on this update. lets hope so. looks promising

One thing we’re very firmly expecting in the update though is official support for the PlayStation 5 Pro through a “Pro Enhanced” patch. This will add the new graphics modes for the game which we’ve seen previewed, although it remains to be seen if the improved capabilities that players are already experiencing will be removed at the same time.

And neither we nor they know for sure, it's just our best guesses.
