I don’t wanna incite an argument, just remembered this and excited from the hype - no hate towards Forza, competition is better for everyone. Just thought this would be funny given FM8’s somewhat rocky launch and GT7 seeming like it’s improving a good bit with this update:

Kieth just made a video the other day talking about GT7 being done or finished or something along those lines. So not surprised he's going the other way now.

I like this screenshot, you can pick races by the type instead of the track now:

This is an older update, I just saved an image of the thumbnail because Kaz’s pose + expression and the big text just cracks me up. I have nothing against Forza, I want it to succeed as much as possible. But in this moment with GT7 looking like it’s getting a really good update and FM8’s rocky start, I thought it’d be funny to post. But I think I might’ve been riding the excitement too much. Feels a bit like a low blow to FM8 fans, or just unnecessary. I do think it’s funny but I think I probably should’ve kept it to myself.

For those who moan about the lack of new events, allow me to bring you this little nugget from item 5 in the announcement:
In Spec II, five standard and two expert level races will be added.
It's unknown whether they'll be mere additions to the current suite of events or new menu books with prizes beyond credits involved (Edit - it's both; see below). It is, however, the first time new permanent races were announced ahead of time.

I do have some bad news - the example of the Weekly Challenges provided, which look to be changed out on Thursdays just as the online time trials are now, used pre-existing events

Per the Playstation Blog post, it's a mix of new events and existing ones at different tracks, and it's also a lot more than the 7 races mentioned in the gran-turismo.com post:

5 new regular events

  • World Touring Cars 900: Trial Mountain / Nurburgring / Suzuka Circuit / Autopolis
  • X2019 Nations Cup: Interlagos Circuit / Sardegna Road Track / Dragon Trail / Trial Mountain Circuit / Lake Maggiore Circuit
  • World Rally Challenge Gr. B: Lake Louise
  • Japanese 4WD Challenge 600
  • Pick-Up Truck Race: Lake Louise

2 Expert Race Events

  • Clubman Cup+: Watkins Glen International / Special Stage Route X / Fuji Speedway / Monza Circuit
  • GT Cup Gr. 3: Mount Panorama / Daytona International Speedway / Deep Forest Raceway / Red Bull Ring
The WTC900 and X2019 Nations Cup events are brand-new events (and presumably new Menu Books), while the other races are expansions of existing events.

No shade to you. It does like funny 🤣. I just saw another of videos saying GT7 was finished so I got triggered unnecessarily by the new video. So don't feel bad about posting it. How are you to know it was gonna bother some random person (me) on the Internet?

I just hope the weekly events will have selectable difficulties! Aside from this worry of mine, that is quite a nice AWESOME update!

Edit: Lake Louise??? I don't mind if it's snow, I love mountainous tracks!! Another Edit: AND it's in Alberta IIRC!! Even better! I live in that part of Canada!

SOPHY 2.0
Useless.
Give us some Long/Endurance Races...
Hopefully this SOPHY thing will not to be the only Update.
What would the update needed to have had to make you feel excited? Genuinely interested.

Nvm I didn't read right. You can make your own endurance races, but you can't make your own super strong AI.

A couple more tidbits from the Playstation Blog post:
Additionally, credit prizes (for Quick Races, which are currently called "Arcade Races") increase based on the player’s Collector Level and Circuit Experience progress. This race mode is easier than ever to get into, and even more replayable.
That would be nice, but given the pittance they pay now, they'll need to really increase in payout to be worthwhile.
The Weekly Challenge is a new weekly event that gives players a list of events to complete. Completing all of them will earn players a special reward. These events will be picked from current World Circuit events along with all-new race events as well.
That answers another concern I had above. The question is whether we'll need to repeat the existing events to get the prizes (which, in the example, was a roulette ticket for getting 3rd in all the races and a car for getting 1st) I mixed up the Weekly Challenge and Master License prize lists; they're tickets based on how many of the events one gets a podium in). @Johnny Caisse - they're World Circuit events, so the difficulty is whatever you have set for that (easy/normal/hard).

As for the split-screen crowd, I'm guessing those bugs with that mode will be ironed out with 1.40/Spec II given the expansion to 4-player split-screen on the PS5.

If I calculate correctly there will be around twenty new races in this update

Ok, this is really a big update.

I am not so hot on another rallye/snow track, but apart from that, alone adding Sophy will be a big improvement to the gameplay. I just went through a few races last night that I haven't played in a while, both in easy and normal difficulty, and the current "AI"/bots are simply a joke.

Some of the new cars are going to be great too, although that really isn't my personal focus at all. I am happy going on WTC 700/800 races with my 911 RSR all day long. 🙃

But the split screen multiplayer is really something I am looking forward to. I just hope they fixed the controller settings issue along with this!
