'Gran Turismo' is coming to the BIG screen!

This movie thing is going to be awesome cant wait, just hope we don't see any standards in the cgi scenes and better not have the same in game sounds.aha lol

The idea of making a movie about a driving simulator... just no. What the heck will it be about?

I can see games like Need For Speed getting movies considering they seem fitted for those kinds of things due to the amount of action, but Gran Turismo? Might as well make a movie about a vacuum cleaner salesman.

For me it should go more the documentary road. A representation of the world of racing and car culture around the globe. I dont need some hollywood douchebag and a dramatic story. Just pure racing, car culture and the people around it.

Something similar to the work of format67 like "We write the streets".

The main motivation to make such a movie, should be to get more people interested in cars or racing. That doesnt happen with a movie like Fast 6 where they have a 3 minute street race and thats it. Such a serious movie should represent the fascination and the joy you have with cars.

I think the movie Rush that is coming out soon, might be a good start for a new generation of car movies.

I could see that, kind of like how the success of Saving Private Ryan spawned the creation of several WW2 movies and video games.

I think a life story of a fictional racer of Grand Tourers might be interesting, could take place in the 1950s and 1960s with Jaguar D-Types, DBR1 Aston Martins, 250 Testasrossas, etc. I think that is something not many would like though.

I still think it will be like Super Mario Bros. where the movie shares nothing with the game most likely.

Unless it captures the spirit of GT Academy's "human drama" in some way I honestly think this would ruin the franchise. Sony must be out of their minds to even come up with such a ludicrous idea.[/QUOTE]

I agree with you. A GT Academy movie would be fantastic but then wouldn't that count as a documentary?

Sony just sees the chance that for the first time in history, a movie based on a game will be better than the game, and they don't want to let that slide.

I can definitely see the possibility of a movie from GT and GTA. I find the stories of the GTA winners to be very compelling.

A young kid (Billy) gets a Playstation and Gran Turismo for Christmas. It was bought by his Grandfather because his family was poor. He turns out to be a prodigy at the game.
[bullied for being a nerd]
Cut ahead several years. Now a young teen Billy gets a PS2, a wheel and GT3 for Christmas. His grandpa sitting on the couch asks, “So Billy, what do you want to be when you grow up?”. “ I want to be a race car driver!”. Grandpa says “you should think of something more practical.”
[Jump ahead again]
Billy gets his license, and gets lots of tickets and gets in trouble for street racing. Just when it seems that Billy’s world is about to fall apart GT Academy comes out. Billy does great and gets his all expenses paid trip.
Then there is the drama of the camp. He wins.
Then Billy is a real race car driver.
It is a coming of age story and I would certainly watch it on netflix. Well maybe.

It's all so obvious though, surely you would see it all coming a mile off and it wouldn't be entertaining. You need some plot twists and different angles in there. Like Billy is a cyborg from the future intent on destroying motorsport as we know it. But he also has the hots for the human female lead who happens to have a prosthetic left arm which really turns him on.

Ive not read the whole thread, so apologies, but has no one considered this to be a movie about Kaz himself?! Hes lead a pretty awesome life over the course of his Gran Turismo journey.

Maybe when Billy wins the GTA he discovers that the GTA was created by a race of aliens to find the best pilot of ground vehicles to help fight in their wars.

Oh wait, that has been done before.

Everything we all ( the whole world ) could think of has been done before  Someone did ...

The question is, can they do better than ones before them ..

🤬 PD?

The antagonist would be hacked cars lol

Kaz vs. 9999hp Buggati Veyrons
Feel the patches....

"Fifty Shades of Grey" producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti will steer the action movie, which is based on the popular Sony PlayStation game by Kazunori Yamauchi and Polyphony Studios.

All jokes aside, this term worries me. I know they're renowned producers and all, but still.

Well goodnight folks. What a bizarre day.

If this pans out like your average videogame movie, it'll probably be more like Fast and the Furious than Gran Turismo.

But hey, if they can make a movie out of Battleship (albeit a crappy one), they can make a movie out of anything.

I can imagine Kaz standing on a desolate race track at the end, Lucas Ordonez stands next to him, the wreckage of 1,000 hacked Civic's is scattered along the track.

Lucas looks to Kaz, he asks "Is it over?".

Kazunori looks him in the eye and says "No. This is just Update 2.12"

Then the credits start.

The movie will be about Bob, the mentally unstable racing driver that can't take corners.

Could also include some back story of how he became that way because his team principal was always telling him to "pace up" every 5 seconds, but if he didn't remind him he would have fallen behind at a rate of 10 seconds a lap. It's tragic.

I think the story will be a loose adaptation of GT3.

The main character, who drives a PT Cruiser, will somehow get into circuit racing. The twist is that he'll stick with his PT all the way to the end, upgrading it as he goes along so that it can crush even the fastest modern cars during the film's climax. :P

In the sequel, he becomes a F1 racer. The twist: He still sticks with his PT Cruiser.

The twist: Bob finally removes his helmet at the end of the movie and underneath is.....another helmet. Helmetception.

Now that we've got the story written for them, all they need is a top-notch special effects crew to make the shadows look all jagged and flickery for that authentic GT look and feel.

We're also gonna need lengthy load times in between scenes. But that's easy, anyone with iMovie could do that. Therefore, there's no excuse for it not to be in there. :P
