Saw it yesterday. The first half hour wasn't catching me at all and I was afraid it's going to be a bad movie for me. After the academy part though, as others mentioned as well, I got sucked in. The race footage was outstanding, combined with powerful audio, good choice of music and the crash scenes. It was fun and emotional and only just made up for the big amount of ficitional parts.

As a GT fan since GT1, I was not surprised but still disappointed by the wrong ingame footage. Games always look off in movies to look better, but I expected it to be a bit more precise when the movie is... partly about the game. Just an example: In the beginning Jann wanted to invite a friend to race against him. But he never touched the lobby mode and was navigating through world circuits.
The most stupid thing is that Jann participated at GT Academy unintentionally and he didn't ever heard anything from this event before as a big GT fan. There was no promotion for the GT Academy. They just used the best times of a random time trial.

He didn't need any race licence for GT3 races because you just get a FIA license by achieving the 4th place in a race.

Overtaking is very easy too. You just have to drive on the outside line especially when it's dry and he learned this from GT. He even achieved the fastest lap time when he was driving all the corners on the outside.
The whole academy process was really dull, yeah. The races itself, apart from awesome camera work, were interesting too... Never seen such easy overtaking, letting competitors look like absolute noobs. Race enthusiasts will hate that and I understand why.

Watch the movie for entertainment purposes, don't inspect the details and you're good. Wasted potential? Yes. But it manages to be enjoyed nonetheless. 7/10.

I've never seen so much ******** within two hours. True story is a good joke. Sorry for my honesty.

When Jann lapped cars from a lower category they didn't let him pass. They all tried to push him out by intention.

This movie is just advertisement for kiddies who have no interest in racing but do they go to the cinemas? I don't think so.

The movie has no target group.
I think your taking it to serious..., the idea of making movies its to make money and in this case sell an idea and to promote the game.
The goal its not to be accurate, like any other movie based on real events producers have to change and add content to make it appealing for people to see its not only about the facts.

More serious its when something happen in RL and the TV news cover them and the news are not accurate and they can ruin a persons life, theres cases that are fun and others that can impact peoples lifes in a negative way.

Probably many people that was involved in GT academy feel sad and mad cause the movie dont show what really happened but i think they can leave with it and go on with their lifes and probably be thankfull in some way because they had this experience in their lifes even if the movie didnt end to be what they hoped for.

If this was a documentary probably people had reason to be mad but this is a movie and fiction not RL.

I for one went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised to see a rather decent and entertaining movie.

Realistic depiction of events? Who cares.

The racing was definitely GT aka chase-the-rabbit and rolling starts which is definitely true to the nature of the series!

The cameos were fun too, put a smile to my face.

And that’s coming from someone who has really lost interest in GT after GT6.

Good fun! 👍

Critics:

“The Barbie movie is fantastic and entertaining!”

Also critics:

“The Gran Turismo movie is nothing but product placement!!”
The Barbie movie made jokes about the creator of Barbie getting done for tax evasion and made a bunch of jokes about Mattel being run by men despite promoting women with Barbie or the fact that Barbie is one of the core reasons for how women were made to chase unrealistic beauty standards.
You can very much make a movie about something without making it seem like a blatant plug. Those are very different things to a movie about Gran Turismo constantly saying how good Gran Turismo is.

I am, because life is too short. We live in a world where we are overflowing with content to consume.

A TV Series may look good, but I am not going to watch 13 seasons of it to find out. I am not going to spend £70 on a game to find out its garbage.
cool, still doesnt explain why how i feel about something is ‘baloney’ 🤷🏼‍♂️

I didn't expect it to be a great movie, but I had hopes it would be at least a nice movie for GT fans or petrolheads. At the end, it was so trash on all levels.

4 photo finishes? That horrendous Le Mans skin of Hungaroring? The lame expositions of car mechanics and racing strategies? The plain personality of the drivers? The little they show about GT Academy? The complete replacement of Lucas Ordoñez as the first GT Academy winner and podium finisher on Lemans?

Hearing that they are trying to pretend that the Hungaroring is LeMans, in the same way the Rush movie tried to fob us off that they didn't just film 90% of the track action at Brands Hatch and went around the world.

We're not stupid...treat us with some respect.

I went yesterday and honestly, I'm not disapointed. At all.
My expectations were (very) low and I had exactly what I've expected: 2 hours of low quality movie. And I'm not angry at all, I've even paid for this.

Seriously guys, calm down, nobody go to see a movie about Gran Turismo while expecting to see the next Oscar movie.

It might win one on the technical categories.

Except 3 things:

  • Both didn't make that movie JUST for you so lets quit with the selfish mindset that they are supposed to only appease you.
  • Niki Lauda himself didn't have a problem with Rush, Hollywood antics and all, just as Jann Mardenborough being literally involved with the movie, didn't have a problem with Gran Turismo.
  • Lets be real: Name one company that has ever given a director and studio movie production enough of a budget to go shoot at multiple circuits of a full series. Go ahead, I'll wait. Have you seen Ford Vs Ferrari? Guess you'll hate that "Deception" too. Likewise, you honestly think that it would've THAT simple to shoot at the full Circuit De La Sarthe (And not just the Bugatti Circuit that stops pass the dunlop bridge), a configuration that for a majority of the year is a Public road? Good luck trying to shoot that one scene during the very few times its been turned into a track while it is busy between all the various scheduled festivities (Especially this year with the anniversary AND a brand new class. Yeah, totally room to fit a shoot somewhere in that crammed schedule)

You don't speak for anyone, Especially not me who is a long time racing fan and still has the common sense to know Hollywood doesn't work like that and has NEVER worked like that (Days of Thunder, Hello?).

Nerds like myself noticed a variety of inaccuracies in Rush (Cadwell Park being passed off as Watkins Glen, Brands Hatch being passed off as Fiorano) and Ford Vs Ferrari (Road Atlanta's back straight being passed off as a part of Le Mans, Auto Club Speedway being passed off as Daytona) but I let them slide because it didn't detract from the story. People need to understand that some belief must be suspended when watching these movies, because not everything can be perfectly recreated. Compromises have to be made for the sake of practicality or such movies would never make it to the screen.

I wonder if people were this bent out of shape with Saving Private Ryan?

(Psst, that wasn’t France it was Ireland).

Though I must admit the sudden extra travel in the throttle pedal and the magical extra gear is tedious in Rush and Le Mans et al

For me it's a 4/10, in the "bad" category for sure. It's a pity, could've been a great story but it was so poorly narrated and got lost in the most stupid clichés of racing films where it seems that to go fast you need to be angry, scream, and push the gas pedal really hard, all at the same time. Oh and change gear and use the outside, yeah!

Hearing that they are trying to pretend that the Hungaroring is LeMans
Yeah, we covered that about 12 articles back.

About 12 Articles Back
There’s plenty of racing action shown too, from the Race Camp and Dubai right through to what seems to be a race at Le Mans (although one angle shows turn four of the Hungaroring with new curb dressing)

Obviously we all wanted to shoot at Le Mans but weren't given permission or the time. The issue with shooting racing movies is getting time on track. Hungaroring was the only circuit that was bookable for three months. Also, if you knew how much it cost to rent Nurburgring for just two days, you'd be amazed the movie was even made. Unfortunately, there are some limitations you cannot get around.

Last point: The head of CGI for the film is a massive Le Mans fan. He's camped trackside at the race for over a decade and makes a point of taking his staff to the race each year. Not sure you'd find a better person to make do with Buda-Le-Mans than him.
