At least I'm happy that Nextflix isn't involved in this because Netflix sucks when they make a movie from a game.

I still don't understand how they intend to make a movie from the basic concept of Gran Turismo. Still, whatever it is, can't see it being a good one.

Wait, why are they remaking that Clint Eastwood movie?

Neill Blomkamp, huh? Maybe Christopher Johnson will finally return for Wikus! He’ll just have to bang out a few dozen 1hr Spa endurance races to get the money for gene therapy to turn Wikus back into a human! I’m on board!

Edit: Motion picture soundtrack by Die Antwoord

Well it will be interesting to see what car brands will be represented in the movie, I'm sure Nissan is given.

Nissan could always do a specific marketing deal for this movie. Although they seem to have moved away from such things. If I had to put money on a brand to be associated it would be Toyota or Porsche.

Still find myself trying to grasp who asked for this. Who is even gonna watch this? Casual fans do not care THAT much about Gran Turismo and there is no way in hell you will convince the die-hards this is worth watching. And then there's the fact that unless its a Kids movie (CARS), a decent action flick (Day Of Thunder), some comedy (Talladega Nights) or a decently written story centered around something real (Le Mans, Grand Prix, Rush, Ferrari Vs Ford), no one in the casual movie going audience cares about racing movies. Annnnd on top of that, There isn't enough good productions to have completely gotten rid of that stink of bad video game movie adaptations.

And oh boy:

It also appears that Gran Turismo series producer Kazunori Yamauchi will be serving as executive producer

Yep, this is gonna bomb. I don't see anyway how this will work. This genuinely feels like a Sony exec just went for the nearest big name Playstation property and said "Make a Movie, Now". There is no way you're make a Gran Turismo Movie good no matter how big ANY of the big name talents are. You have to make up a dumb story where none exists and they didn't even do that, they just straight ripped Jann Mardenborough's Success and slapped an OC (Please don't steal).

As someone who's seen Super Mario Brothers and Double Dragon, Trust me: Bad Video Game movies are not exclusive to Netflix

It does seem like Sony has a bit of a push going on to turn it's game properties into visual media, be it movies or series.

This isn't innately a terrible idea, especially for more narratively driven games. But for something like Gran Turismo, it just seems dumb.

I don't understand the point either. Rather see a Ridge Racer movie.

I don't know, Rush was pretty good. So was Ford v Ferrari. Purely for entertainment sake. How many people watch Initial D or Fast & Furious. We don't know the script.
Is this going to be like Speed Racer or Senna? Snake & Mongoose? Greased Lightning(the Richard Pryor movie)?

Is the screen filter going to look like a recording of a European GT series race weekend or a natural filter, like a soap opera? Will it look stylised like the Kaz Virtual Divide video? We'll have to wait for the trailer. Maybe Soon.

It has potential to be really good... there's that

Didn't Kaz make GT because he wanted a gaem to reflect hot version? Maybe something along those lines, starting with used car grass roots then going to GT3 or something

I don't understand how Kaz involvement mean the movie will bomb,he's not writing or directing it.
Its basically the dried out, wrinkly cherry on an already sloppy and soggy cake. Its not necessarily gonna be bad purely due to him, but its the combination of all these decisions that I feel like it will bomb.

Ahm didn’t you critized first that it isn’t based on something real (like Le Mans or Rush), and then say that it’s bad that it’s based on something real as the success of Mardenborough?

And what does Kaz’s involvement as a executive producer das about the movie? I think you are overestimating the role of this position.

And at last, just because you don’t care doesn’t mean that the other hardcore gamers or casuals don’t care. What is also hard to have a opinion on it actually when there’s isn’t neither a trailer nor some script pieces or anything else known yet.
What we know is the director, who is kind of outstanding in my opinion on todays movie landscape, and an actor, who also isn’t that bad.
Who cared for Fast & Furious before the movie was out, who cared for the underground hardcore tuning scene before the movie? In comparison to that, Gran Turismo has a lot more to build upon theoretically, so this isn’t a really an argument against it.
The thing is, it is just too early to say anything about the quality of the movie.

It looks it will be americanised and go further away from the source material.

If we wanted a Gran Turismo movie we would actually want it as a anime or a movie done by the Japanese.

It's self-indulgent autofellatio

The whole thing just smells like Kaz wanting an ego boost.
Guys, these Playstation movies are an effort from Sony not the devs themselves, and their involvement in production are mostly from a consultation perspective,Naughty Dog didn't go to Sony to make the Uncharted movies themselves.
Kaz role is similar to a book author in a movie adaptation or Stan Lee in the early 2000s comic books.
The exception is Neil Druckmann creator of the Last of Us writing and directing a episode in the new HBO series

Why make an "ultimate wish fulfilment" movie about someone playing Kaz's Gran Turismo video game instead of, you know, restarting GT Academy or making a new docu series focusing on the current GT world series drivers like F1's "Drive to Survive" or F2's "Chasing the Dream" or even Porsche's "Road to Le Mans" with Michael Fassbender?

There's plenty of human stories to tell there.

Say what you like about Uncharted, at least the movie wasn't about Tom Holland playing Uncharted.
