Every time after the countdown ends during qualifying time trial, a "Preparing to start a race" message show up and it stays there for some time before this error shows up. Happened several times and sometimes happens right after i signed up.

This is why i'm not a big fan of the Online focused games.

This was a constant for me with GT5 and inspired me to skip GT6. I love online racing and war games. This kind of stuff should not happen. It doesn't happen in Warhawk, World of Tanks, Rocket League, DiRT Rally, Assetto, Project CARS or Driveclub, although the latter had many issues at launch. This kind of stuff must be fixed as it's mission-critical for this title.

I just had my first ever GT Sport online race. Was a pretty fun experience 👍 although like with my experience of GT5/6 Online, everyone had a quite unnatural movement due to lag. Mind you it happens far less in FM6, just for comparison.

I've only been able to do a few races so far, just one last night at Willow in N class and I'm currently running a Gr. 3 Northern Isle set. I had a decent run on Willow and landed 4th, I would've been 5th but p3 got rammed off in the last corner. Overall it was pretty fun, I just wish I had more time last night for more races.

My first run in Gr. 3 was pretty garbage - I was in the middle of the pack and got spun around about halfway through the race and ended up a lap behind everyone else. I was beginning to grasp the safety rating up until then - being more cautious with braking and spacing was putting it in the blue more frequently, but once I got spun around I pulled myself into the infield and waited for a safe re-entry, but the whole ~10 seconds I was sitting there I was getting SR reductions and was threatened w/disqualification for penalty time - then as I re-entered I was getting further deductions despite the fact that I was a fair distance behind everyone and I didn't see anyone near behind me - I don't know if someone was ghosting inside me or what.

Second race I didn't get spun but a guy gave me a hefty shove on the straight, I held it together and landed 9th out of 15. I think shifting lanes when entering the bends on the speedway may have something to do with the SR deduction, but I'll need to see. I was only getting it in the second half of the race again. You get an instant deduction for touching the inner line, but interestingly not if you bump the wall...

Round 3 went well and I landed 3rd with very few issues - I can confirm SR will take a hit if you shift lanes on the bends if you're near other cars, but it won't be affected if you've got clear ground both in front and behind.

I'm enjoying this so far, the BOP and class racing makes the game really accessible and you still get a diverse range of vehicle behavior, and the current setup allows for quick races one after another while still allowing the on-track warmup that the past two games offer. Netcode may need some improvements and I'll need to see how other incidents affect SR but I think I'm sold on the online front already, and I've only given it an hour. 👍 👍 👍

That's what happened to me too.

Had a similar error with a different code earlier today.

I wouldn't mind this crap if they told me 20 minutes earlier

Northern Isle is slowly growing on me. Might not be that great to race on, but it's nice to set into a rhythm and just watch the times fall. Not aure how balanced ths Gr. 3 cars are, bht that was about the most I could find with the 458. I'll try adjusting my lines a bit next time, but that was one heck of a lap by my standards!

It doesn't have to be like that in my opinion. I think if PD nail the net code, GTS can be the leader in online racing.

Could be, but they won't. Anyone could nail the net code and be the leader in online racing, but they haven't. It's not that easy. See how many fighting games still screw it up even though GGPO has existed for ages.

Polyphony's net code has always been wonky, and the current reports are that it still is. They're not going to overnight catch up with iRacing. And given that it's Sony and Polyphony and they've never had dedicated servers before, I won't be at all surprised if they crash and burn under the load during the first week of release.

Hey I'm in the screenshot :D

The Gr. 4 Nurburgring events completely killed all the SR I built up - the penalties for going wide are absolutely brutal compared to all the other tracks.

Here's my last race of the day, qualifying put me way in the back of the pack, but I managed to crawl up to 5th by the end. I made a goof at 7:40 and almost fell back to 6th but managed to defend my spot up through the end, and keeping myself clean I brought my SR back up from 3 to 11 in just one race. Felt great:

This PS4 video capture feature is a blessing.

After playing the beta this week, the word to describe it was good, but definitely could have been better.

Pros:
  • Physics engine, single-handedly the best feature the beta has featured. Working well with the performance ratings that each of the cars have in their respective classes, with stats such as cornering and stability, the track translates from the road to the feedback that the car gives extremely well. I say depending on the track (Ex. Brands Hatch smooth, Nurburgring bumpy), the physics in the game accurately shows off what advantage or disadvantage the car has in cornering and stability. In addition, the engine also accurately shows off the tuning of a car well. The traction control is more difficult to control at a lower setting. Going off-road and on kerbstones and rumble strips yields more variable consequences, depending on car stability as compared to previous titles.
  • Graphics, GT is always known for having the best graphics in racing simulation games, do this is no surprise. The graphics are incredible life-like, with a very balanced color palette. Tracks and cars are re-created in such great detail down to every last pixel to bring a true visual of reality. The lighting of the game is also well done with very little to no flickering. Replays extremely dynamic, to my taste the best in the racing simulation genre. Well thought camera angles, non-exaggerated motion blur, and the lighting and tessellation is amazing. The time of day with each of the track conditions are re-created nicely. If only this game had dynamic time and weather, it would be a graphical masterpiece.
  • UI/MFD (HUD), the best in the Gran Turismo series. The UI is very fresh looking and not too simple, but not too sophisticated and crammed, all throughout the menus and accessing certain areas in the game. To me it was always what I wanted to see from GT, a studio/garage like layout showing off the cars of the game gives the game a professional and relevant feeling, which does well for the game. The slideshow of cars in "scapes" is a bonus. The Mutli-Function Display is very informative and clean as well, providing all the proper information in regard to timing.
  • *** The menu music is excellent as well, surprisingly... Very soothing and upbeat at times... Time went into this just like the pros mentioned above.
Cons:

  • AI, this is the biggest problem with GT right now and the furthest behind in terms of development in the game of what should be fundamentally there already. AI cars brake very early, brake in the middle of turns at times, and even can slow down when a car is far away from them. They still stick to the track, maybe not as much as previous titles, but they need to be looser and think more like humans. There is some side by side racing, but typically it stops there and the AI does not perform any passes. This makes a 20 or so car field feel sluggish, lazy, and non-competitive, with little to no personality. Hopefully, GT gets this together as this is a FiA licensed game that teaches/refines players about the enjoyable and competitive aspects of racing. Also, this game gives players driver ratings and virtual licenses.
  • Car Sounds, yes I know its improving. It does sound richer and bolder and more parts on the car are heard when driving. However, I feel like the sound needs to be louder and more amplified, to the point where the lowest volume on my speakers is enough to feel comfortable with the sound. Possibly upshifts and over-revving sounds can be improved as well. However, I do like the direction GT is going be introducing more sounds in the car like the car bottoming out, exhaust sounds when down shifting, no loud tire squealing. The impact sound when hitting barriers sounds better too. So over time, this con is heading in the right direction into finally becoming a pro.
  • Damage, I did not see much of it when I was playing. I saw some sparks, which is cool. From other players streams, it appears like some cars were modeled with damage and some were not, with the damage being scratches and minor dents. Would like to see a more advanced damage model that is realistic to certain impacts on crashes, which, in addition, should impact specific mechanisms in the car instead of a general one or area of the car. Damage should also affect the time of pit stops. This might not get in the game, but also I would like to see water and oil temperatures and engine conditions affect the car. Hoping to see a decent damage model in the full game.
Online:
  • In terms of Online, matchmaking worked well. For the most part in was extremely smooth, with no disconnects. Although in one lobby, lag was really bad and in that instance the game should not have even started. The "Sport" mode setup is nice with the qualifying trials.

So overall so far, this is a game that handles realistically, looks incredible, and is very accessible and comfortable. The issue now becomes once again- can GT master the fundamentals of a proper driving/racing simulator. It is heading in the right direction, but can they push it a step further... This for me will determine whether or not this game is a success and will shift the series into a new light for the fans of GT and properly promote cars and motorsport as Polyphony Digital says to "The next level."

I also encourage the bug-reporting forum and game testers forum as well:

This is what has happened to me over and over again. I finally gave up and went back to Project Cars.

Getting a code won't work. Only selected PSN ID's can access the beta.

If you get a code and try to play the game, you will see this:

How is a Brazilian guy playing?

It works if you set the PSN account to primary on the PS4
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=233067463&postcount=1312

It's completely different situation. He got a code for a CAD account, couldn't reedem it straight on that account. So he made US account just to reedem te code and to play on his CAD account.

His CAD account was selected, but he just couldn't download the game.

If you get a code from someone and reedem it on US account, then it doesn't work. The picture with error was made by me. Code activated on US account, set as primary. Doesn't work on any of my accounts (1x PL, 3xUS).
