By the way, Sony doesn't believe anymore in the racing genre. Gran Turismo can be seen as a brand and not only a racing game, that is their biggest advantage.

BUT if gtsport is a commercial failure, I don't know what to expect for PD studio.

Yeah, the decline of the racing genre sadly seems to be a thing. But are there any real stats on this, how/why/where/when it's declining?

It must be hard to gauge sales nowadays with the fragmented purchase schemes many games use...

I think the decline is only an illusion. There are quite a lot of different racing games now, fragmenting the market. Therefore the sales of one individual game are lower than in the past, but total sales may be higher.

I'm wondering if GTS will be a complete game. If it is to be a one-off game, even if it is successful, does it need to follow most games by offering DLC?

I like GT series but to be frank this is getting far too ridiculous with GTS, and I'm afraid that it's going to be a quite disappointment when it's comes up :nervous:

What exactly is ridicolous? PD's lack of info or Sony closing evolution studios(which totaly affects GTS)

Bigger than a prologue, smaller than a full game, iirc.

It's not an illusion.

It could be any number of things: the fragmentation may have led to frustration. Perhaps it's the relative/perceived lack of creativity the genre has seen in the past decade. Nobody knows, but racing games are indeed selling less.

Evolution is shut down and Driveclub is handed over to Sony.

Few months later, GTS shows up with Driveclub like weather effects, Driveclub like audio, Driveclub's car list, and Driveclub like VR.

...not sure how I'd feel about that.
same here i hope they treat it well

Formula E in GT = bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzztttt....

I am sad Evolution Studio is closed by Sony :( I really like Motorstorm games especially Pacific rift although it is a tough game with fast AI. DC was updated to one of the best racing games. But reviewer bashed that game on release. Only 1-2 site I think updated their review with the updates. So average joe may be thinking it is a bad game :banghead: Hopefully some guys will from there will be working on GTS. Polyphony site it is still showing 110 employees  But I do not remember they have some office in LA, Amsterdam. http://www.polyphony.co.jp/company/ May be they are taking in more guys from different regions who do not like to relocate to Japan

The closure of Evo studios is a confirmation for me that Sony doesn't believe anymore in racing games. The not full priced prologue is just a way to see if GT is still popular. I'm sure that a prologue is not as costly as a usual gt for Sony. I just fear an agressive policy of dlc.

It isnt a matter of not believing in racing games anymore, but more like cutting away anything that doesnt turn a profit. Facts are Evolution was losing money. Besides high dev costs for being based in England (high wages in comparison to other regions), Evo grew its staff during Driveclub development. It still made a mess of the games launch and experimented with VR before Driveclub was even released and PSVR was 1st shown to the world.
Why would they think the 30fps VR build they had two years ago would suffice when it was common knowledge you would need 60/90/120fps.

Further more expenses and resources wasted getting their current build of Driveclub to 60fps by removing many assets that gave DClub its beauty. Wasteful with money Imho.

Sony simply wanted to trim fat before 1 April 2016, thats when PS HQ moves to the US.

Got a link to those "facts" about Evo losing money?

No link, just common sense and the fact that their defunct yet Media Molecule (niche games that sell badly) and Quantic Dream (make games at a lower budget than most of their other 1st party studios) are greenlit for new PS4 games like Dreams etc.

Clearly, Evolution Studios, whose Driveclub sold more than Teraway(for example) got shut down.
In the long run, making one or two games a gen is just a money pit to Sony. I'd have shut them down too rather than gamble on a new product from them. Lower production cost and average sales turn a profit. Big budgets, like car manufacturer licenses etc plus delays cost money, clearly Sony thinks 2 Million sales for DriveClub isnt turning them a profit from their investment.

To top it all off, their last game, Motorstorm Appocalypse also didnt make Sony a profit. In fact, Matt Southern, from Evo said their lucky to still be making games and that Sony didnt shut them down due to how poorly Motorstorm sold and their delays during develment of that game also.

"Matt Southern, Evolution Studios group game director, has revealed his fear that the troubled launch and subsequent commercial failure of MotorStorm Apocalypse "might be the end" of the Sony-owned developer "

Well spotted 👍 Looks very GT like but I don't trust my eyes

If you can't trust your own eyes, there are many problems that await you

I don't like making drama in these threads, but check out the 2:50 mark and the 7:40 mark in this video. It looks...vaguely GT-esque.

inb4 "lol nissan in gran turismo" jokes

Literally mentioned in the posts above you.

It certainly looks very game-y, the real question though is if the shots were in a game or green screened because both are possible.
