So basically, they're going to do what FM5 did but three years later?

That doesn't seem like a recipe for success. FM5/FM6 did a decent job of replicating the GT3/GT4 release model, a small game close to release and then a bigger game later on. It wasn't terribly populat with the fans, but it worked.

But GTS is too late to the party to be going for that. If anything it looks like replicating the GT5P/GT5 release model, a small game a few years after release and then a massive game about halfway into the console lifecycle.

I thought the point of pushing out GT6 on PS3 was to buy them space to develop for PS4. If all they've got after three years is half a game...why did they bother?

The other important difference with Forza was that they dropped a lot of content on the jump between FM4 and FM5 that didn't suffer nearly as big of a quality gap as the Standards vs Premiums do in Gran Turismo.

A few FM4 models were pants (22B, NA1 NSX, C4 Vette, F40), but a large chunk, especially the ones in the final DLC packs, were pretty on par with what we see in FM5. A large swath of the community didn't like the big drop in content, because there wasn't a very noticeable difference between old and new.

With PS2 assets versus made-for-PS4 ones (like the ND Miata, or the R8 LMS), well, that's not the case.

We're going to be 2.5-3 years into the PS4's lifecycle before we get GT Sport (roughly, depending on beta/final release dates). This isn't a launch title.

Don't know if this has been mentioned previously but with all the focus on (from what it seems) "Pure Racing" .. do you guys think that (even though it's not much) customization/modification wont be included? (Basically, be identical to Project Cars and only allow tuning..)

I think it will be, just in the same state that it is now in GT6 (Changing colors and numbers on base models). After, its abit silly to have a title that has people racing against each other without some way of telling others apart.

Why are we getting GTS though, can't they release a full GT7 with about 300 cars? why is that a bad idea? What have they been doing all this time?

At this point, what would adding a number to the name do? I don't think it would be any different, to be honest.

The wording of them saying that it will be like GT7 but with a smaller selection of cars and tracks. GT6 had a huge amount of tracks,if we get most of them back and add 1-2 new ones plus the course maker then how will that be a small amount of tracks, unless they will be removing them on purpose.

My point is even if we take only premium tracks and cars from GT6 and add a few, why isn't this enough to have a full GT7? they need to be a bit more clear about the purpose of this.

My point was that even if this was called GT7, GT7P, or what it's currently called, GTS, it likely wouldn't have any different approach.

hmm I hear the same music from the gts first trailer in a gameplay video gt6/tokyo auto salon 2016... :grumpy: and.. lol

You can bet if it was called GT7 it would be a full priced game.

I wouldn't say so.

Remember, this is more online and community based than other GT games have been. The whole point was to bring FIA championships to the virtual community; it has a different goal from the numbered series (that is, the focus to be a realistic driving simulator). This was also to be intended to be separate from the main series, so this can't be GT7

Yeah, I suppose I should have left that title out.

Who's to say this is not the goal they have in mind, and to continue this onward for the next iterations to come? "The Realistic Driving Simulator" seems more like a blank title they've given themselves, rather than an outright description of what's going on in the game.

However, I didn't realize that this was confirmed to be a spin-off. If that's the case, then my point is moot.

I did kind of realize that statement I made was kind of iffy. Just didn't think it quite through enough.

Don't know how I missed that, but thanks 👍 Let's just pretend that I didn't say anything :P
No problem :P I make very unusual statements myself (like I did a few posts back)

No clue. I'd say since it's on a new console, maybe they're using it to get feedback on what can be improved so they know for the next game, but other than that, I don't know what their intentions are.

Hmm, it doesn't exactly sound promising from these Facebook messages. They can claim it's a full game all they like but the other messages don't convey that feeling. Not a full price game, less cars and tracks than a full game and "more in-depth than a Prologue" really doesn't sell it. I mean, how much more in-depth? GT5 Prologue with Online FIA Championships would be considered more in depth than just GT5P, technically.

Also as someone who still doesn't generally care for online gaming the scale of the offline game worries me, that'll it just be a tacked on afterthought to tick a box of still being playable offline.

As someone else posted, you do have to wonder what they're doing. PS4 was supposed to be easier to work with, faster, yet we're still only getting a cut-down game after 3 years and GT7 who knows when.

Personal theory:

GT Sport will function as a Prologue in everything but name only. Smaller, more focused on the FIA championship, it will be a taster for the PS4 GT experience. It will be the first running of the championship, but the cheaper cost of entry will be because GT7 will launch in time for the second season. That will be the full cake, with the simulated-ownership approach we're used to in GT games, and the full roster.

By focusing on the FIA championship, PD is making their game more relevant to the sim racing landscape in 2016 ("Prologues" aren't remembered with massive amounts of fondness, and eSports are poised to become big news this year), while also serving as a taster for their full game. If GT Sport launches with as many cars as Project CARS, and slightly less tracks, it'll still be a pretty substantial game, especially at a discounted price.

Again, just a guess, but that's how I'd approach it if I were in a similar position. As others have said, we're getting pretty far into the PS4's lifecycle already, so I'd hope GT7 is coming shortly after this, and is pretty massive in scope, while also being a showcase of the system's power.

That is my basic theory as well. I mean of course the marketing department are going to try and claim it's something else entirely, but that is their job after all. It will certainly be interesting to see how this game is taken but I feel it's going to go a similar way to GT5:P, sell exceptionally well simply for being the first taste of GT on the new platform at a cut price.

So wait, their aiming for 2016..... So this prologue or whatever possibly won't come this year. I know that everything isn't confirm yet and stuff but damn. And we always joke about GT7 coming in 2018 or 19 but from the looks of it, it's gonna become reality. And also the ps4 would be like in it's 5 or 6 year into it's life by then. If they are struggling to get GTS out this year then that means you won't be hearing anything about GT7 for awhile.

How about TV?
Expensive and extremely limited market penetration. It's a worldwide game sold in dozens of countries and the amount of tv time they'd have to buy to reach even a small portion of the fanbase would be astronomical. Easier, much cheaper and likely much deeper penetration into your target audience if you use your own websites, gaming sites etc. Here are some numbers for example. A 30 second ad for the Super Bowl, which attracts the biggest audience of any program in the U.S. and many of them only to watch the commercials, is $4.5 million. If they hoped to sell 2 million units in North America it would cost them $2.25 per person for this type of exposure and that's only if every single potential buyer of the game watched the broadcast and saw the commercial.
