any update on the beta? initially the news was early 2016, so i guess there is still time. I really got an itch for a GT game on PS4!

Come back SOON

soon.

It probably should. If Polyphony hasn't got it at least working in a limited fashion that might be shown off in a demo by now, then it's probably going to be another GT6 course maker.

And if Polyphony have got it working then Sony would be Grade A morons not to use it to showcase their new tech.

Though they already have a DriveClub demo, there's probably not much reason to have two demos of a driving game.

It's not that they need it. It's that a GT VR demo should exist by now, even simply for internal testing and calibration. And if it exists then they might as well use it. Gran Turismo is a big name, and could do a lot to push the idea of VR.

And if it doesn't exist, I don't think that bodes terribly well for VR on release in six months or so. Even if they have a solid 60fps I doubt it's just a plug and play thing that they can whack into the game at the last minute. Maybe it'd be fine, but we've been through this a few times with Polyphony. Nothing is ever quite as easy as they like to tell themselves it is.

It's amusing really. 6 years ago we were left wondering when we would see the next Gran Turismo game, nowadays we are left waiting for a trailer and basic game info.

PD at PGW be like "Fine, here's a Gran Turismo PS4 trailer, now 🤬 off and leave us alone".

(Sarcasm absolutely intended.)

You're right. They should rely on those dull demos shown at PSX :P

If I was Sony I'd show both.

They'll be showing the capabilities of the PSVR in different genres, and with access probably limited it makes sense to have a wide variety. Some games might be "dull", but of course that's slightly subjective. I'm sure some might find driving games a bit dull :D

Well the game won't be out for at least six months, plenty of time yet.

Just wanted to note that PD changed their (english) promo text at the official site from ,,best graphics, physics and sound in a racing game'' to -->

,,That Gran Turismo SPORT will feature highly evolved graphics and sound quality, not to mention a totally revamped physics engine,
should come as no surprise. The true beauty of Gran Turismo SPORT goes much deeper, as it will forever change
the way driving games are seen. It will redefine the very definition of “gaming” and “motorsports.”''

I find it interesting that they voluntarily mentioned sound, specifically "highly evolved sound quality". Kaz, for example, never seems to mention sound quality or sound improvements unless directly asked in interviews, and always seems reticent to discuss it in depth. Perhaps this is to be taken as a good sign. I mean, since GT's sound is so weak it's practically a running joke in the racing game world, it would perhaps not be pertinent to mention massive sound improvements without actually delivering on that - it will become painfully obvious very quickly if it doesn't happen.

Yeah, I wanna hear it first and then we'll see if it's the best of any game. Too many great sounding games around to be throwing statements like that left and right, especially with PD's track record. Having Forza's audio lead gives us hope, but in the end it's the audio samples that matter the most.

Yeah, its almost an insult to the muscle car crowd. Not to mention the poor car selection (lack of certain vehicles, or DLC for them), unorganized duplicates (5 or more versions of one car in a row) and a sloppy TPE. All of which can be topics of their own.
The only things I really asked out of GT since the first one in 1999 is to be able to grab a sport compact and put speed to the test. Which has been ok, not good, yet ok, so far.
Sadly, I'm not interested in spin offs of the Nike car from GT4. If that is the general view of racing in the future, then count me out. I'll stick to my old racing sims that let me race my favorite sport cars on beautiful back roads (Genki's TXR series for example).
Or just go outside and have fun with my real car on a real road. Not rely on a team of stuck up, snobby, half asses that looks down and thumb their nose at us grass roots gearheads.
I guess that the consumers are more interested in more professional, elitist forms of racing.

Has anyone here tried VR on a driving game yet?

I'm just far too excited for a GT+VR scenario...
Lots of guys using Oculus Rift with Assetto Corsa and other games. Best thing since sliced bread is the impression I get:sly:

I was on the same line of thought until I realized that with that stuff on your head you can't find ask wheel buttons, or use external dashboards or even a simple button box...

that chilled me completely concerning vr headsets.

let alone house impossible it would be to grab a beer during a pit stop lol

You learn very quickly because of muscle memory. You don't look at the gear stick while driving, yet you can still do it right? Same thing with VR.
