Alright everybody - after almost 72 hours, I'm finally going to detail my experience with GT Sport at the GT Academy event in the city on Sunday.

Let me start by saying that the event was fantastic (it was displayed on the massive screen above the stand!). I would never have expected the chance to play GT Sport before it's official release, and I can't believe I actually got to play on the controller. Bloody hell man, talk about going above a beyond! I even played it on a massive TV, so there. Unbelievable.

But what you guys really want to know is how the game plays on a controller, rather than a steering wheel and pedals, so what I say may not apply to those who have tried it with a wheel and pedals.

First thing that I will talk about is the graphics - as always, they are fantastic, no problems at all. I couldn't even see any frame drops whilst I set my time on Brands Hatch GP in the Shulze Nissan GTR GT3.

This one is the biggie - the PHYSICS. What I'll say next might cause some controversy and not everyone will agree with the statements. For starters, the car felt FAR more weighted in the corners than it ever did in GT6, making the experience far more lively in the process. Yes, I will say that there is a very obvious improvement over GT6 and I will not call it a small one either. Shocking I know, but that is genuinely what I think. Let me continue - the car's performance at low speed is more realistic. There is less grip present, so it's easier to spin out when you are not careful on the throttle, and getting the car going again is much harder than the past games. Heck, I did it several times at Druids and I was truly amazed at how the car reacted. Felt like no other GT game. The sensation of speed - well, it's basically non-existent but it did not take away from the challenge that was presented to me. The tyres have less grip, trail braking is much harder to pull off without crashing, and everything about the car just felt RIGHT. It was the greatest feeling ever and I'm calling it - the physics IMO are BETTER than Project Cars. Especially on a controller. Honestly, this game is set to be the BEST EVER. The magic is back everybody...

As for sounds, I can't really say but through the speakers around the stand, it sounded solid and better than ever before. Really, really promising stuff.

And now I'm getting a free copy of GT Sport... Yup. Just for making the effort and making the arrangement to make the spectacular day happen. I'm so thrilled because my experience was totally unexpected and awesome. I thank all the guys who made the event possible. I didn't think GT needed this kind of exposure, but hell yeah it does... it's all part of Kaz' vision to make racing games accessible for everyone, no matter who they are. That was demonstrated at the event, and I'm even more excited for this game now.

Let me add - all driving aids were turned off, excluding ABS.

Thanks for the impressions man, and pretty sweet that they set you up with a controller eh.

How did you blag the free copy??

It reads like your a member of Sony :P too positive. Thanks.

Wheel FFB I can't comment much because I have a G25 at home so it's not a direct comparison. I have to say the T300 doesn't impress me that much. It's smoother but it doesn't give any extra info that my G25 already provides. Maybe it's just the FFT settings though. I run FFT 10 at home and everything just feels stronger. GTS feels flaky and numb by comparison. Again, could just be the wheel so don't take this as gospel.
Its not the wheel.

I run a T150 with Dirt, SLRE, PCars, etc. and it's better with those than the T300 is with GTS. That said the FFB and wheel config coudl well still be a work in progress on GTS.

Did you run the FFB at 10? I could only run it at 5 and it was very light and GT6-y.

Yep

It was less the strength and more the detail was missing, particularity with regard to curbs, rumble strips, etc.

Yeah that's a let down, track I drove didn't have any curbs sadly. Hopefully they're still working on it as you said.

Nice work mate. 👍

And congrats on the freebie. :)

It's sad when you don't have a wheel and GTS and you have to pay about $135.00 It has to be good so my money is well spent.

Wow!! That read from CLowndes888 really made me happy and sad at the same time.

I'm happy because the game looks very promising and sad because i'm so short of money right now. And i have BF1 to buy and i want to buy Assetto Corsa too...

Ok, hypothetical buyers test then:

If you had $60, and you had to choose between AC and GTS, what would you buy? :)

I'd go with GTS mainly because I'm familiar with the series.

If anything, this question may just spark up some more heated GTS v AC debates on what is the better buy, etc.

Yeah that is fair, but honestly was only meant as a question to @Cocomoto because he mentioned limited funds...!

Now i would go for GTS, since i play it since the first GT. But when things get better or AC gets a really good price drop, i'll definitely buy it too!

Thanks for your write up on your personal experiences with GT Sport. I long have believed that casual gamers in general are the going to be the key for the genre to be successful. The hardcore fans such as those who post on forums are such a small percentage of the player base and until the sim-type games becomes accessible and fun for the masses, all the realism in the world won't mean much to those outside of the simulator fan base.

Someday one of the game companies is going to find the lightning in a bottle formula which offers the perfect amount of realism, fun, and wow moments without being so overcomplicated that it turns people off.

I really wish they did an online-focused beta to work out the kinks in the ranking and matchmaking systems. I am so counting on jumping into an improved GT6 quick-match style mode in this game on day 1, but know in my heart that it will be months before that is approachable.

They can rely on information from GT6 and GT5 to have a close-ish estimate to the load their servers need to handle. They won't and it won't work well from the start I guarantee it.

They may have had the FFB settings turned down for the event. I used to run 10/10 FFB settings on GT5 and GT6 with my G25, but the second I tried that on my new T300RS, the wheel literally almost tore itself out of my hands completely. Even on 5/7 it's very, very hefty.

Think he's talking functionality of the system not necessarily stability of servers, which allegedly will be Sport Mode (dedicated servers), online (regular P2P) as an aside.

Like others, I want to know how far off the track I can go after Graham Hill bend before my stats are hit etc. etc. etc. etc. not how crumpled my car can look and and if I lost 2 fps whilst doing so.

Personally,
if you're not on the black bit, you're not on the track... :D

I rather hope PD won't be taking advice from the FIA on track limits enforcement. Their handling of it in F1 at the moment is laughably bad.

Laughably bad how?

Ignore me, I've just checked this thread!

One is driving at willow and the other one at the oval track - so it would seem that there isnt new content (at least in terms of tracks) shown. Apart from that windtunnel background video playing at the monitors on the right, dont recall having seen that yet.
